NOW we’re going to move on to the next topic

Digraphs!Oh yeah, by the way if you wonder why I’m using all these random colours, here are the colour codes:

White is for titles or sentence at the top of the page. Sometimes part(s) of the title is colour-coded with red or yellow.BLACK is for normal words/sentences. Nothing special.RED is for keywords, usually use for topic name, annotation.YELLOW is for emphasis, sometimes use for compliments, silly things (LOL sorry).BOLD is for anything important in general, I can use it for keywords from other lessons or not-main-keywords-that-you-should-remember or I can use it with the red and yellow, OR I just use it randomly (Oh baby a triple OR’s!)Random colours (e.g. blue) mean I was feeling random (random, not ”blue because I was feeling blue”. Remember that)

(sarcastic yaaayyyyy)

BACK TO THE MAIN SUBJECT…

Digraph. You should have heard of them before. Sorry if you didn’t. Maybe I should fix the sentence so you guys won’t feel bad. You MAY have heard of them before. Ok.IF you didn’t (don’t feel bad), then digraphs are 2 or more consonants combine to make a one-sound “word”.A lot of people (which MAY or MAY NOT include you) mistaken digraphs with consonant clusters (or consonant blends, which ever way you want to call it). The difference between a digraph and a consonant cluster is the sound it makes. Digraphs are two (or more) consonants combined together to make 1 sound; for example: ch, th, etc. Meanwhile, consonant clusters are two (or more) combined to make 2 or more distinct sounds. This mean that we can hear the sounds from each consonant from that cluster; for example: dr, spl, thr, etc.

ONE… OR TWO(?) EXTRA INFO…

Digraphs also have another type. Vowel diagraphs. For example: ee, oo, ou, ow, ay, etc. Now, this may sound like diphthongs (and triphthongs, too). But here’s the reason why it’s not: These two words all came from Greek. Now, graph in Greek means written, while phthong means sound (I didn’t even know phthong was a word). And, as most of you should know (I should stop using that phrase, it makes people feel bad), di means 2, tri means 3, etc. Therefore, Digraphs are the written letters, while Di/Triphthongs are the sound (1 or 2 or more) the written letters make. Wait, does that mean there are also… Trigraphs?FORTUNATELY, Vietnamese language don’t use vowel diagraphs. There are only Digraphs. The consonant one. The one and only (consonant) Digraph!
