Raised in Lagos but now a rising star in France, Asa is the strident new voice of modern folk inspired by the sounds and messages of artists such as Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Sunny Ade and ebenezer Obey. Unafraid to tackle serious issues with intelligence and confidence, this charismatic songstress with trademark husky voice fuses contemporary soul, pop, reggae and funk with searing lyrics in both english and her native Yoruba language.

Asa will perform with her impeccable band for one night only in Adelaide.

Born in France to Nigerian parents, Féfé was a founding member of the French hip-hop collective Saian Supa Crew, and is known throughout the hip-hop universe as rapper and singer Fe2 or Feniski.

In 2009 he released his acclaimed solo debut Jeune á la retraite (Retired Youth) and has emerged as a solo artist of consequence. Busting the boundaries of traditional hip-hop, his style weaves rap through funk, soul, blues, rock, catchy pop, even plaintive ballads.

Renowned for explosive live shows and infectious feel-good beats, Féfé is a fixture on the French airwaves since collaborating with K’naan on the French version of Waving the Flag, during the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Guaranteed to get you jumping!

Liberating the body from our everyday understanding of physics, Proximity is an immersive visual experience where the miniscule becomes massive, the singular becomes multiple and fleeting moments are suspended and elongated.

Choreographer Garry Stewart works with Paris-based video engineer/techno whiz kid Thomas Pachoud to create an astonishing dialogue for dance and real-time video manipulation. eight phenomenal dancers train video cameras on each other to capture live, their ingenious physicality. The resulting effect is a breathtaking video panorama of dance that upends the very nature of perception itself and questions our ideas of self and identity.

Albert Namatjira’s life story provides a valuable insight, not only into Australia’s history, but into our modern-day relations with Indigenous people. At the height of his international fame, his artworks sold out within minutes. Albert’s beautiful paintings introduced the lounge rooms of Australian suburbia to the exquisite beauty of our central desert heartland. The rich watercolours of Namatjira’s story are transformed into a monumentous theatrical event, and have brought audiences to their feet night after night around Australia. With the inimitable Trevor Jamieson as Albert Namatjira, this energetic celebration of a life fully lived also features third-generation artists from Namatjira’s hermannsburg community, creating expansive drawings live. Re-inventing circus as an art form, this is movement at its most adventurous, but with a cabaret twist and a larrikin’s flair. Combining high energy sound and innovative projections, seven of the world’s best acrobats perform jaw-dropping feats. It’s dangerous and skilful, immediate and powerful, intimate and real.

A story of human co-operation and frailty exquisitely told through movement.

Rapturously acclaimed around the globe, Circa has toured to 22 countries across five continents and now comes to Adelaide for the first time.

Circa is pure spectacle for the heart, body and soul.

Tommy emmanuel is one of Australia’s most respected musicians with a professional career spanning five decades. his unique style is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a band for melody, rhythm, bass and drum parts, Tommy plays all that – and more – on one guitar. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire young emmanuel to try this “fingerpicker” style. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of emmanuel’s biggest fans. Guitar players of all levels come to his shows to witness the magic hands of the “Guitar Wizard of Oz”, but his appeal goes far beyond musicians. Tommy emmanuel’s message is pure love for the guitar and the music and his delight in sharing it with the world, one audience at a time.

Special guest, Frank vignola is widely regarded as a monster player and composer, and has played with everyone from Les Paul and Madonna through to Donald Fagen and the Boston Pops. This will be Frank’s first visit to Australia.

Five ordinarily marvellous women find themselves back in their school classroom plying their needles in a good old-fashioned session of “stitch and bitch”. Their confessions are frank, their rivalries intense and their jokes outrageous. They discover a common frustration with the limitations of being female and mature in a world still largely defined by men. Accidentally locked in the classroom with nothing but ingenuity, Adora Cream Wafers and a bucket to get them through the crisis, unknown reserves come to the fore. Released from their own constraints, they rediscover their capacity to love, forgive – and take control. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em! Men see their wives, adult children see their mothers, grandchildren see Nana, and the mature Australian woman sees herself, as some of our most beloved actresses bring this delightful new comedy to life and laughter on the stage. You’ll laugh till you cry.

Acclaimed choreographer Frances Rings describes her new work Terrain as a hymn to country; a fusion of dance, theatre and storytelling, told by the celebrated Bangarra dancers.

Inspired by the landscape of one of our greatest natural wonders, Terrain explores the metamorphosis and timeless beauty that is Lake eyre.Tracing through the erosions of time, we face the challenges of man and environment as they struggle for survival amongst the delicate ecology in search of the rare phenomenon that is Australia’s inland sea.

This powerful, evocative new work transports us to the scorching arid desert plains where nature delivers in abundance and promises all but guarantees nothing.

The fabulous, award-winning TROCKS make their triumphant return to Australia!

Founded in 1974 in New York by a group of dancers aspiring to present a playful, entertaining view of classical ballet in parody form, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo first performed in the late-late shows in Off-Off Broadway lofts and are now treasured all around the world.

This company of professional male dancers presents an inspired blend of their loving knowledge of classical ballet, a brilliant comic approach, and the astounding fact that men can, indeed, dance en pointe without falling flat on their faces!

Dancing a fine line between high art and high camp and always with a wicked sense of fun and mastery of technique, these darlings of the ballet world will appeal to dance aficionados and complete novices alike.

Like anything valuable in life, I have gained much more than I could have ever anticipated, and this opportunity would not have happened without the generous support of the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation Board.

The young GreenRoom members and Advocates have inspired me with their energy, their vision and their eagerness to absorb as much about the arts as they possibly can in their busy lives. With their participation in the GreenRoom membership program I have been privileged to witness their growth and ongoing journey and development. I am continually excited to meet members and to build a program around the incredible talent that we have coming through our Festival Centre doors and on our stages. Creativity is generous in spirit – it thrives the more people connect with it and is something that GreenRoom encourages. I see this as the future food for our young people! I encourage young arts lovers to join GreenRoom and create their own adventure.

Leanne cotter GreenRoom Coordinator

The GreenRoom Advocacy program is a fabulous way of gaining hands-on experience in the arts and having the chance to network with fellow arts enthusiasts. I have gained insight into the inner workings of the Adelaide Festival Centre in areas as diverse as marketing and publicity, and had the opportunity to brainstorm with a broad spectrum of people from seasoned professionals to those with completely fresh eyes and ideas. Being a GreenRoom Advocate has been a fantastic experience and reconfirmed my desire to work in arts administration. I highly recommend other young people interested in the arts sign up to be a GreenRoom Advocate!

Marjorie Fitz-Gerald, Bequest PatronAdelaide Festival Centre Foundation

Over the last sixty years I have seen and been part of so many beginnings in this state. They were challenging times, we had no Festival Centre Complex and many of our state’s arts institutions did not exist. It’s hard to imagine our life without these wonderful resources. They form the solid cultural foundation of our state. It was through the generosity of past donors and the dedication of the artists that made our dream of the Festival State a reality.

BUT – that is the past – and we must all ensure that effort has not been in vain. I have been a part of those early days and I still feel I have much more to do. I invite you all to join me in working to secure the future of South Australia’s arts industry. I want to encourage you to support Adelaide Festival Centre’s youth programs, by giving a bequest to the Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation.

each generation needs to establish its artistic relevance and creatively continue the cultural development of its time. Let us all grasp the challenge with both hands and secure the future. Just imagine what the next generation will accomplish with a little financial help from this generation.

i invite you all to join me in working to secure the future of south Australia’s arts industry.
