Sustainable Nantucket created its Youth

Council in 2008 with the goal of engaging and

empowering students to incorporate

sustainable practices into their schools, homes,

and communities.

Students interested in

sustainable:

The Youth Council is a lot of FUN! Not only is

it a great way to meet students from other

different projects for all kinds of student

Sustainable Nantucket

Farmers & Artisans Market

Members of the Youth Council

volunteer at the Market each

Saturday during the summer

Get a behind the scenes look at a

Farmers Market and learn to sell

produce! (*when available from the

Farm to School Garden).

Raise funds for the garden and

awareness about SN programs and

the Youth Council and encourage

volunteers to sign up.

Farm to School Book

This book will chronicle the

progress, difficulties, and successes

of the Garden project.

The YC will contribute articles and

photographs of their own, and help

design the publication.

Farm to School Garden

Currently, the SNYC is working on the

construction of the 7500+ square foot

Farm to School Garden, located at

the Nantucket Public Schools, off of

First Way.

The YC helps

to construct

garden

components

and sow

crops.

Produce from the garden will be

integrated into the school lunch

program.

The YC will act as student leaders,

getting students and teachers interested

and involved in the year-round garden.

The YC also helps plant, maintain and

teach at the Small Friends on Nantucket

garden.
