About Diverse Abilities

Diverse Abilities Plus is Dorset’s disability charity, founded in 1955 by a courageous local mum whose daughter was born with cerebral palsy. We are proud to have grown to now support 500 children and adults with physical and learning disabilities here in Dorset.

Our servicesChildren’s TeamThe team aims to enable families that have children with profound physical and/or learning disabilities to cope day to day in the knowledge that their child is safe, supported and cared for. We run a specialist school for children, offer short breaks, overnight respite and practical support in the home, plus holiday and after-school activities to ensure those young people with disabilities live life to the full.

Adult ServicesA well equipped day opportunity service for adults ensures those with disabilities can develop skills and enjoy a range of experiences. Supported living allows adults to live as independently as possible in their own home and make everyday choices with the 24/7 support of our dedicated team.

Advice ServiceThe service seeks to support people with disabilities or health conditions, and their families or carers, with guidance and representation on a number of medical and legal needs, providing invaluable advice.
