General Motors Company, is also known as simply GM.
It is a United States based automaker with headquarters in Detroit,Michigan.
GM was the world's 18th largest corporate entity and third largestautomaker as ranked by 2008 revenues on the Fortune Global 500.
Ranked by global unit sales for 2008, it was the world's second largestautomaker.
GM manufactures cars in 34 countries, recently employed 244,500people around the world, and sells and services vehicles in some 140countries.

On July 10, 2009 GM emerged from a bankruptcy
reorganization and is now majority owned by the United
States Treasury.
While no GM shares are currently available to the public, the
company plans an initial public stock offering (IPO) in 2010.
In 2008, GM sold 8.35 million cars and trucks globally.

General Motors was founded on September 16, 1908, in Flint, Michigan.
Then it was controlled by William C. Durant. It acquired Oldsmobile later that
year.
In 1909, Durant brought the Cadillac, Elmore, Oakland.
Also in 1909, General Motors acquired the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company
of Pontiac, Michigan.
A few years later, Durant started the Chevrolet Motor car company.

Durant then reorganized General Motors Company into GeneralMotors Corporation.
GM previously led in global sales for 77 consecutive years (1931 to2007), longer than any other automaker.
General Motors began doing business in India in 1928, assemblingChevrolet cars, trucks and buses, but ceased its assemblyoperations in 1954. GM continued with tie-ups with HindustanMotors to build Vauxhall cars and off-road equipment.
In 2003, the company opened its technical center operationsin Bangalore, which included research and development andvehicle engineering activities.

REVA Electric Car Company Private Ltd.
(RECC), based in Bangalore, India, was
established in 1994 as a joint venture between
the Maini Group India and AEV LLC, California
USA, to manufacture environment-friendly and
cost-effective electric vehicles.
Seven years of R&D earned the RECC
recognition a globally accepted product. REVA,
India's first zero polluting Electric Vehicle.
In May 2001, Reva, an electric car was
launched in Bangalore by the city-based RevaElectric Car Company (RECC).

Reva was claimed to be India's first zero-polluting,battery-driven car with a running cost of just Rs0.40 per km.
One of the first electric cars in the world to go infor mass production.
It was priced at about Rs 0.2 million and the firstten cars were delivered to customers in July 2001.Reva generated a lot of excitement in the Indianautomobile industry since it offered manysignificant advantages over conventional cars.
REVA is designed to be unique and stands out on the
road as a genuine city car with a mature expression.

GM India and REVA have announced apartnership to develop an affordable electriccar for the Indian market.
Both companies have started feasibilitystudies that would use GM small car
platforms to host co-developed drive trainsand control systems.
The partnership is supported by the IndianGovernment, which is very interested inkeeping under control the country's expectedincrease in oil demand.
Production of this car is expected to start in2010.
