Department NewschoirThe year 2013 is quickly coming to an end. On Sunday, December 15, the choir gave its annual Christmas concert. We sang in a festive decorated Germania Hall in front of a huge audience. Especially Franz Schuberts “Ave Maria”, featuring soloist Dan Neely, and the concert finale with the Hallelujah chorus from F. Handel’s Messiah were appreciated by the audience with much applause. At the end the guests had an opportunity to sing along with the choir a selection of old familiar Christmas songs.

On December 21, a select group from the choir followed an invitation from Walter Harding, to sing at his mother’s special Birthday party. Emma Sawatzki turned 100 years old. She obviously enjoyed our performance.

By now we are done with singing for this year and all that was to be done was to install the new choir

officers. Most of the board members agreed to remain in their positions with the only exception for Vice President. The new board has now the following members: President: Manfred Trogisch, Vice President: Sigrid Sikora, Secretary: William Woodcock, Treasurer: Dennis Mueller

We are on our winter break and will return to our rehearsal routine on January 14, 2014 at 7:30pm as usual in the upstairs club room. We invite anybody who loves to sing to join us as we prepare for the sänger kommers of the pacific singing society on february 15, hosted by the Freundschaft Liederkranz and the Damenchor Liederkranz in San Francisco.

Happy New Year to everybody, Manfred Trogisch

skatOur Skat-playing night in January will be on the 16th, and in february it will be on the 20th in the club room upstairs at 7:30 p.m. Please mark your calendar for these dates. New players, experienced or not, are always welcome.
