The Museum’s new family initiatives expand the outreach of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum—already a popular summer destination—with both self-guided and group activities for young families. Building on effective programs already in place, the Museum now provides interactive summer activities for families whether they are touring the galleries alone or participating in special classes and events. “One of the best ways for children to have a rich experience visiting a museum is to have a conversation with their family members while looking at the artwork,” said Jackie M, Georgia O’Keeffe Museum director of education and public programs. “Our creative educational programming stimulates these conversation while instilling a love and appreciation of the arts.” Family Activities in the Galleries: The Museum’s complimentary, kid-friendly Discovery Guides help children experience and interact with the exhibitions currently on view at the Museum: “Georgia O’Keeffe and Ansel Adams: The Hawai‘i Pictures” and “Georgia O’Keeffe: Abiquiu Views”. Children and their parents can enjoy the packets, find the prompts, answer questions, and offer opinions about the works on view. To encourage further creativity, the guides include suggestions of activities children can complete on- site or at home. The Museum also provides sketchbooks and pencils for drawing in the galleries.
