Children’s Corner PARENTS! PARENTS!

Please remember our,” Children’s Department TOWN HALL MEETING”, immediate-ly following the 11 AM worship service, Sunday, March 1st, 2020. As seen in letter

below, this meeting deal primarily with our children. Please make every effort to attend.

Dear parents of the children of Georgia Avenue Baptist Church,

The year 2019 went by so fast, and if that was not enough...guess what? We just finished the first month of 2020. Please do not be anxious, we have surprisingly good news for you.

Like any other progressive institution, we have reviewed our children’s department policies. So many things have changed, some for the better or worse. Our teaching styles have changed, eating habits, lifestyle, but most important of all the changes is our communication. Our children have in the palm of their hands, a little device, yes, the cell phone, that brings the world to their palm.

We would like to invite you to a Town Hall meeting, Sunday, March 1st immediately following the 11 AM service. Please come to meet a team including: Pastor Bonner, Angela Clark, Juan Ri-vas, Beatrice Diggs, Laura Mbeng, Doris Foggie, Petrina Annan, and Sylvia Bernard. All are dedi-cated to help you train up a child in the way he should go. We would like to hear your thoughts on training and raising Christian children.

Sunday School

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Mat. 28:19-20, NKJV) There is a need for Sunday School teachers. Teachers are needed from Nursery to Adult classes. If you have a desire and feel committed to teaching God’s word, please see Valentine Nchinda, Angela Clark or Bonnie Bonner.

Join us in one of our Sunday School Classes at 9:45 AM.

If you need a ride to church or Sunday School, please follow these steps: 1. Call your Sunday School teacher. He/she will try to arrange a ride.

2. If you are not enrolled in Sunday School, call your deacon. He/she will try to arrange a ride.

3. If your Sunday School teacher or deacon can’t arrange transportation, then call the church office. The office manager will contact one of our members and see if pickup is possible.

“An Unexpected Detour” Acts 16:6-10

Background

• Paul was ready to go to the next region that God wanted his team to evangelize

• After the Spirit forbid them from going several places, Paul had a vision from a “man from Macedonia” pleading with him to come there and help them

Why Was There A Detour?

• Paul intended to go other places, but all these verses tell us is the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them to go there

• God detoured them twice because He had other plans for where they must go When Does God Detour You?

• You fervently ask God to reveal His will and are open to obeying it

• There is an urgent need you can meet (Macedonia needed ministry); you are already busy doing God’s work

How Can You Spot A Detour?

• Your plans fail—nothing is working out

• You don’t have “peace that surpasses all understanding” (Phil. 4:7)

• God opens an unexpected door Application

• God sometimes says “no” to something to say “yes” to something better

• Accepting “no” from God requires faith; God may not reveal “why” right away; you must continue to work and pray

God took Joseph on a detour through prison to fulfill his dream. He took Moses on a detour

through the desert before He called him to be a leader. He will allow detours from fulfilling your

dreams and plans the way you want. He will stop you in order to get you

to His intended destination. Never forget that a detour in your life doesn’t mean

you won’t get where God wants you to go. Sometimes, it just means you’ll get to His destination at a different time

by taking a different road.

VBS 2020

Building On The Love Of Jesus shows kids the foundation that lasts. As kids explore a world of concrete and cranes, rivets and rebar, bulldozers and backhoes, they will learn to build their faith on Jesus as they uncover the truth that He who began a good work will be faithful to carry it on to completion.

A Challenge To The Congregation

A challenge has been made to the congregation to donate $2.00 every Sunday toward the van fund. Please continue to pay your regular tithes and of-ferings.
