Where is Rome located?
• Near the center of the Italian peninsula
• Separated from the rest of Europe by a high mountain range called the Alps
What are the major land features?• Tiber river – provided water
and transportation routes• Apennines – mountain
range that stretches more than 850 miles
• Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Tyrrhenian Sea, and Ionian Sea, Adriatic Sea
What is the climate in Rome?• Mediterranean climate – mild winters and
warm, dry summers
How did Rome’s Geography help it grow?
• Less rugged mountains which allowed Rome to unite
• Rome had several large plains making farming easier
• Natural harbors that helped support trade
