Buses leave from KL Sentral Train station every hour for Genting Highland.

The journey involved bus and cable car. From KL Sentral the bus will bring you up to middle of the hill and drop you at Skyway Complex (Cable Car station). From here take the cable car  to reach Genting Resort at the hill top.

How to get to Genting Highland from airport LCCT-Kuala Lumpur :

From this low cost airport, visitor can travel directly to Genting Highland Resort and vise vase using

AirAsia's SkyVans mini van service.

The one way journey by the SkyVans service cost only RM70. Ticket is available for sales at counter in LCCT-KL

Genting Skyway Complex in Gohtong Jaya - the lower station

The final part of the journey up Genting Highlands involve taking the cable-car.  The cable car journey is scenic and takes about 15 minutes. The cost of the cable car is usually included in the price you pay for the entire package. There are very long queues during weekends and public holidays.

The cable car station (above photo) is situated at Goh Tong Jaya, a mid hill station just 15 minutes from

Genting. This cable car is what we called Genting Skyway.

Each cable car can carry a maximum of 6 adult passengers. When Genting Skyway is non-operational, visitors can board the other Awana Skyway. Operation Hours: Sun - Fri 7:30am to 11pm Sat 7:30am to 2am Single journey: RM4 Return ticket: RM8

This is an inexpensive and convenient way of reaching the Genting hill top. The ride offers an unparalled paranomic view of the rainforest. Because of the high altitude, the spiraling ride by bus instead can be rather uncomfortable to people who are susceptible to motion sickness.

Airport Coach service is available from KLIA  to Genting via Hentian Duta Bus Station in Kuala Lumpur.Tickets are available at Genting Counter KLIA Arrival level. The Airport Coach leaves KLIA every half hour and Genting Express leaves Hentian Duta at hourly interval from 9.00am to 7.00pm.

By Taxi Get a  taxi from Puduraya bus terminal in the Kuala Lumpur city centre.

By Car Your own car or rent one from local Car Rental agencies. It will take approximately 45 minutes to reach Genting.

It is easy getting to Genting Highlands as there are many clear road signs along the way.

Parking at the lower Cable Car station located at Gohtong Jaya is free. There are two space type : Covered space and un-covered space. Finding a space at the covered carpark can be a challenge.

Genting Highlands Resort was honored with several awards in 2005 in numerous categories by several noted authorities in the travel and tourism industry both locally and internationally.

At the Asia Platinum Awards (HAPA), organized by World Asia Publishing, Genting Highlands Resort was acknowledged for excellence, winning an award for Best Family Resort (Genting Theme Park) and Restaurant of the Year (The Olive, Genting Hotel).

In addition, the Resort was honored with an additional two major awards for excellence after being judged World's Leading Casino Resort and Asia's Leading Casino Resort in the 12th World Travel Awards (WTA) event on 13 November 2005 in London.

Genting Group Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said that the recognition was an acknowledgement of Genting's excellent service and ability to produce world-class integrated resorts that benefited the tourism industries of the countries they operated in.

"These two awards for Genting Highlands Resort are a tribute to all the travel agents and our customers and everyone who has shared and supported us throughout our 40 years, including our management and employees for delivering the best of services," he said in a statement.

Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay was also honored with The Most Outstanding Hospitality Developer at the Asia Platinum Awards ceremony, which also coincided with the launch of Hospitality Asia's Personalities Book in which Lim was featured. Genting Head of Strategic Investments, Justin Leong, who received the awards on behalf of Genting in London, reaffirmed Genting's commitment to excellence: "We are committed to ensuring that Genting Highlands Resort remains one of Asia's leading integrated entertainment resorts."

Doubtless you've seen (or most likely heard) the phenomenon known as karaoke at one function or another. And you've likely either cheered or groaned as someone enthusiastically renders their interpretation of Anita Mui, Elvis or a plethora of other singers, all to the tune of an instrumental track.

For the uninitiated, karaoke allows you to sing a song to musical accompaniment by following on-screen lyrics. The word karaoke is derived from the combination of two Japanese words - "kara" which is an abbreviation of "karappo" meaning empty in Japanese, and "oke" or the Japananification of the word orchestra or oketsura - thus "kara-oke" which literally means "empty orchestra".

Since it's inauguration on 26 November, STARWORLD has been one of Genting's -City of Entertainment's most popular attractions with it's fresh take on gaming combined with the latest technology to create an exciting experience for players. STARWORLD is the place to be for the young at-heart and offers exciting table games along with the latest slot machines. Not only that, players can enjoy delicious snacks, savor a range of gourmet coffee blends, watch MTV around the clock or just relax and soak in the ambiance.

To celebrate it's first anniversary, STARWORLD held a grand party on 26 November 2005. To kick things off, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at 10.00am to launch a new section at STARWORLD that offers the latest electronic games.

Graced by VIPs such as Mr. See Chin Kar, VP of Casino Table Games, Mr. Francis Chung and Mr Chung Hock Chye, both General Manager of STARWORLD and a number of invited guests, the ceremony was met with thunderous applause from both players and attendees as it signaled a start to the festivities.

The new electronic games section at STARWORLD features innovative games that combine the excitement of table games with the advantages of cutting edge technology like Touch Bet Roulette and Vegas Star Baccarat. After the ceremony, players eagerly tried out the new machines after a brief tutorial by helpful staff. SONGS, SLOTS, MUSIC AND DANCE

Attendees and patrons were treated to live entertainment throughout the day with live music by a jazz band, dance performances by resplendently clad dancers in peacock costumes, a performance by the Yuki Dolls band and most exciting of all, a visit by the God of Prosperity! At 3.00pm, the STARWORLD Grand Slot Tournament Finals were held with much fanfare. A massive RM 88,000 in prizes were up for grabs in the tournament. Madam Cheong Yoke Lan from Singapore won the tournament with RM25,000 Non Negotiable chips as well as a special trophy for First Prize. Madam Chee Choi Lan from Singapore came out as First Runner Up with RM 15,000 in Non-Negotiable chips with a trophy while Mr. Chew Send Hiap from Selangor took third place and won a trophy and RM10,000 in Non-Negotiable chips. 

A SWEET ENDING

At 9.00pm, STARWORLD celebrated it's birthday proper the way it's meant to be with a huge birthday cake! The

cake itself weighed almost ten kilogrammes. Senior Vice-President of Casino Marketing Mr. Jeffrey Teoh as well as a number of VIPs were on hand to cut the cake followed by the jubilant popping of champagne and toasts to STARWORLD's success.

Afterwards, the humongous cake was shared amongst players and patrons as the party kicked into full swing amidst live jazz music and a karaoke competition with some patrons demonstrating their vocal skills amidst enthusiastic cheering and clapping. The best performers walked away with some great prizes. If we need singers, we know who to ask for next time!

The festivities were concluded at about midnight after 14 hours of non-stop fun and entertainment as players walked away with happy memories and great prizes. To those who came, thank you so much for your support in making our First Anniversary one to remember.

World Magician Tournament November 17 - 25, 2007 at Genting Highlands Resort

Sixth Star Entertainment & Marketing announced on Mar. 02, 2007  that the company has been selected, in association with David Sandy Productions, Inc. and Cannon Creative, to produce a world class magic event at Genting Highlands Resort.

The event's main feature will be a "World Invitational Tournament" starring top magicians from around the world, including invited champions and rising stars. It will also feature strolling close-up artists, magic seminars, competitions, enrichment sessions for children and adults.

The tournament, officially recognized and sanctioned by the International Brotherhood of Magicians (International Brotherhood of Magicians), will take place from November 17 - 25, 2007. In an effort to establish this event as one of the world's foremost magic competitions, Genting Highland will feature thistournament on an annual basis for five years.

The elaborate event was proposed to International Brotherhood of Magicians officials by Sixth Star Entertainment president Doug Jones and David Sandy at the recent International Brotherhood of Magicians board meeting in Las Vegas.

Magic has long been a favorite on the Genting entertainment stages. International magicians are frequently booked as star entertainers, and the resort is currently featuring the spectacle Fly, with large stage illusions. "We are excited to be hosting this event" says Ng Kheng Leong - Vice President of Promotions and Entertainment of Genting

By sanctioning this tournament, International Brotherhood of Magicians hopes to increase awareness of magic in Southeast Asia, expand its membership and strengthen its position as the world's largest magicianorganization with over 13,000 members in 73 countries.

The nearest airport is in Kuala Lumpur. Skybus [2] used to run direct buses, but seems to have stopped; the fastest way is thus to

KL Sentral by train (28 min) and then connecting to the bus from there. Alternatively, if you're feeling flush after hitting a jackpot in

the casino, Sabah Air (tel. +60-3-62578604) will be happy to charter a helicopter for you (30 min).

Genting Skyway on a misty day

There are frequent buses operated by Go Genting Express Bus from various points in Kuala Lumpur (first bus at 8 am or 8.30 am),

including the Puduraya bus terminal (every 30 min), KL Sentral train station (half-hourly and hourly), Hentian Pasarakyat (hourly)

and Gombak (half-hourly and hourly). There are also less comfortable buses from Pekeliling Bus Station to Genting Highlands

(every 20 to 30 minutes, first bus at 7am). Booking in advance is advisable as services can sell out, especially on weekends.

All buses take around one hour and cost around RM 5 one way, with most terminating at the bus terminal beside the Skyway cable

car base station, from where it's an 11-minute ride up to the summit of Genting (RM 5 one-way; the top cable station is in the

Highlands Hotel). You do not have to wait more than 10 seconds for the next cable car. It is slightly cheaper to buy a combined bus

and cable car ticket, costing less than RM 10. Buses departing at 7.30, 8 and 9 PM on Fri, Sat and Sun head directly to the First

World Bus Terminal, making it unnecessary to take the cable car up. The buses that depart at 9, 10 and 11 pm on Fri, Sat and Sun

for KL Sentral from Genting leave from the First World Bus Terminal, making it unnecessary to take the cable car down.

You may also consider buying the so-called Go Genting Golden Package (valid for one day only; 41 RM, 4 RM more on national

public holdiays) from the Genting ticket office on the second level of KL Sentral. This package includes the return bus journey (same

day only) between KL (KL Sentral and three other points of departure) and Genting bus terminal, the return cable car ride (same day

only) and buffet lunch at the Coffee Terrace or Outdoor Theme Park day pass. You have to decide on what time you want to return

from Genting when you purchase the package.

Transtar [3] operates one daily superluxury "Solitaire" bus direct from Singapore (S$87/77 one-way from/to Singapore). Other

companies running direct buses include Five Star Tours, Grassland, Konsortium and Easibook.

[edit]By car and taxi

Genting can be reached by car from Kuala Lumpur in about one hour on the Karak Highway. A private taxi from the centre of KL to

Genting costs 60 to 70 RM. A shared taxi from Puduraya bus station to Genting costs 50 RM per vehicle.

All hotels in Genting (except Awana) are connected by sheltered walkways and escalators, so you never actually need to go

outside. The entire complex is, theoretically, wheelchair accessible.

The dimly lit, surreal kitsch of the First World Plaza indoor theme park-cum-shopping mall

Let's face it: if you aren't into theme park rides, the only thing to do in Genting is gamble. All casinos are open 24 hours, although

you must be over 21 and, if Malaysian, not Muslim to enter. A notional but widely ignored dress code applies, prohibiting T-shirts,

shorts and sandals, and while there are theoretical non-smoking zones here and there, all casinos are wreathed in dense smoke.

One final difference to Vegas: not only are there no cocktail waitresses, but you can't even buy a drink inside.

Table games of choice are roulette, baccarat and Chinese games such as tai sai and pai gow, with poker barely registering. There

are also countless slot machines, but they all require signing up with Genting's WorldCard [4] system if you want to withdraw any

winnings.

Monte Carlo Casino, Genting/Highlands Hotel. This is easily the largest of the casinos and you'll probably find your vice of

choice in here somewhere — they even have a few video poker machines. Visitors with foreign passports are allowed to enter

the "International Room" VIP zone if they agree to sign up to WorldCard.

Hollywood Casino, Genting/Highlands Hotel.

StarWorld Casino, First World Hotel.

No bags are allowed inside, but lockers are available (RM 3), as well as a manned deposit point for more valuable goods like

laptops. Photography inside the casinos is strictly prohibited.

Arena of Stars, [5]. Hosts concerts and shows most weekends, but most feature B-grade Chinese pop stars or Western artists

well past their prime.

First World Plaza, Malaysia's self-proclaimed highest shopping mall, this is an ungainly mix of indoor theme park and low-rent

shopping mall with replicas of random landmarks from around the world, all covered with a giant metal roof that makes the

entire place seem dark and dingy.

First World Cineplex, Times Square, First World Plaza. Two small theaters.

Genting International Convention Centre (GICC). Convention center with various halls capable of hosting events, concerts

and performances for up to 2,000 people.

Genting Outdoor Theme Park, [6]. Features numerous rides typical of an amusement park, mostly suitable for children. Day

pass 38 RM (off-peak), 44 RM (peak); express-lane 57 RM (off-peak), 66 RM (peak). You may use the Go Genting Golden

Package (see above 'Get in by bus') to obtain a day pass.

First World Indoor Theme Park, (located in the First World Plaza). Features numerous rides. Day pass 26 RM (off-peak), 30

RM (peak). This day pass does not cover Signature Attractions such as Ripley's Museum (30 RM), Snow World (17 RM),

Genting Sky Venture (simulated sky diving) (50 RM), etc.

A combined day pass for the outdoor and indoor theme parks cost 51 RM (off-peak) and 59 RM (peak)

First World Plaza, in First World Hotel, [7]. The First World Plaza has got to be the coolest, if not the highest shopping

destination in Malaysia. It carries over 90 labels with F&B outlets and attractions for all ages!

Food in Genting is generally overpriced and mediocre. Local, Western and fast food are available, but prices are often twice or more

what the same meal would cost in Kuala Lumpur. Most restaurants are halal to cater for the large number of Muslim visitors.

There are a number of fast food chains like McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, and Marybrown. All these restaurants charge about 50%

higher than what they charge elsewhere in Malaysia. Try Marybrown's Nasi Lemak meal as breakfast: one piece of chicken, a hot

tea/coffee, and other Nasi Lemak condiments for RM ~10.

Penang Food Village, (Theme Park Hotel). would be unremarkable anywhere else in Malaysia, but in Genting it's a notch

above the competition: prices are reasonable (most remain under RM10), there are no crowds or clouds of smoke, and the

food is tasty. Try the lor mee (noodles in black gravy). The spicy prawn noodle soup and the Penang Fried Kway Teow are not

to be missed.  edit

There are some decent Chinese restaurants like the Causeway Bay (FW Plaza Second floor) and Shanghai 10 (FW Plaza Main

Atrium). They serve good food and a meal for 3 (One main course, side dish and a drink per pax) should not cost you more than

RM60.

Coffee Terrace, Genting Hotel. Newly renovated restaurant with an international buffet in plush settings, with many chefs

cooking on-the-spot upon your orders. It serves 6 different cuisines - Local, Nonya, Chinese, Japanese, Western and Indian.

Recommendations include Penang Fried Kway Teow, Chicken Rice, Indian Naan, Japanese Sashimi (really fresh!) and

Medium-well beef steak. Breakfast (0530-1030) 35 RM nett, lunch (1200-1430) 55 RM nett, dinner (1700-2130) 65 RM nett.

Children pay half price for all meals. The Go Genting Golden Package (see above, 'Get in by bus') may be used to cover the

cost of a buffet lunch here.  edit

The Olive, (Genting Hotel). Genting's signature award-winning restaurant, located in the hotel lobby, attractively done in a very

modern style. Very expensive, but if you're going to splurge, you might as well go whole hog and try the Wagyu steak, flown in

Nightlife in Genting is very limited. There are four (4) bars of any description in the entire complex, three of them (Safari, Cloud 9, All

Sports) in the lower level of the Genting Hotel and one (Patio) on the second floor of the First World Hotel.

With 10,000 rooms to choose from, there are usually plenty of beds at Genting. On weekdays in the off-season, rooms can be very

cheap indeed (under RM 20), but demand is highly seasonal and the hotels fill up fast in November and December. Note that all

rooms are unheated and can thus get chilly at night!

First World Hotel, [8]. Catering towards the masses and the budget conscious, this three-star monolith with gaudy exterior

paint is (by some measures) the biggest hotel in the entire world, with 6,118 rooms in two towers. And you aren't likely to forget

it: check-in queues often stretch over an hour, room numbers have five digits and the enormous First World Cafe's breakfast

buffet has all the charm of a reform school cafeteria. Standard/deluxe rooms are spartan but clean. The main selling point is

the price: while rack rate is RM240, advance booking weekday promotions go for as little as RM20.

Genting Hotel, [9]. One of the earliest to open in the Highlands, this 5-star hotel offers a wide range of entertainment and

recreational facilities such as heated indoor swimming pool, 10 restaurants (including the award-winning, The Olive), and a

large karaoke center. Rates from RM235 nett (low season).

Highlands Hotel, [10]. This 5-star hotel is supposed to be furnished as a Scottish castle with dark oak panels and low lighting.

932 rooms, open to invited high rollers and Genting WorldCard Silver and above only.

Resort Hotel, [11]. The Resort is a four-star hotel adjacent to the Genting Hotel with its own section of the Casino and three

F&B outlets. Standard low season rates from RM160 nett.

Theme Park Hotel, [12]. A French-themed castle-village-hotel notionally modeled on the 16th-century village of Colmar

in Alsace, France, complete with drawbridge. It ranks as a 3 star hotel, with affordable yet comfy rooms.

There is cheaper accommodation available a couple km down the slope from the cable car base station, such as Hotel Seri

Malaysia.
