• Films that are made up of more than one type of genre are called hybrid. Examples of this include: rom-com, action adventure and action thriller.

• The genre is normally clear to the audience as it will be a factor that will decide whether the viewer likes the film. It is used to appeal to a wide target audience who enjoy these types of films. For example, comedy films will normally make you laugh in the film trailer.

UNBROKEN• Many films have sub genres within them. For example

'Unbroken' is a drama, biographical, war, historical film. The main character is male. The film is based on a true story so it is very realistic; however, special effects of the plain crashing have been used. Also, the sombre tone of the soundtrack music creates the idea of loosing loved ones to war. It is aimed at adults as it is dialogue heavy and touches upon some topics that children may not understand.

action, war, adventure, biographical genre. There isn't any special effects used in the film trailer because it is a serious scene highlighting the main character to the audience. The music is a diegetic sound of a drum beat, it represents a heart beat which creates tension for the audience. The film is aimed at male teenagers because of the gun use.

BLACKHAT• Although 'Blackhat' is from the same genre of war. It is a very different film

trailer. The war is not with people, it is a cyber attack against terrorism. The genres of this film also include action and adventure. The main protagonist is the male character but the audience is made known to a female assistant. Special effects are used within the trailer. The tracking through the computer at the very beginning of the trailer engages the viewer into wondering what is happening. The music is parallel to the moving images as the beeping noise creates tension, is spy like and suggests immediate danger and the need for action to be taken. The audience for this film is teenagers and mainly adult men. This is because of the gun use and violence which is stereotypically enjoyed by men.

SIMILARITIES WITHIN THE FILM TRAILERS

• The film trailers are all very similar as they are realistic. They are true to life because of the representation of men going to war. Women are also seen as the victims. Both ‘Unbroken’ and ‘American Sniper’ have actors turned directors as marketing text within the trailer. This USP highlights to the audience that the film has been created by somebody they probably know. Therefore, the assumption would be made that the film is of a high quality.

• These features within the film trailers all highlight the genre. This is because the moving images and music work together to create the atmosphere expected for this specific genre. This is then displayed to the audience who understand it and therefore, can decide whether or not to go to the cinema and watch the film.
