Japanese-American Internment in the two boxes.
• Take out your Japanese-American Internment reading if it is had not been handed in yet.

• Goal: Who is responsible for the Holocaust?
• 1. After you have been given your group of 3 (random), you will be given a photo that represents an event from the Holocaust.• 2. Look carefully at the photo and answer Section 1 of the Picture

The Holocaust – Why the Jews?• Hitler blamed the Jews for all the problems Germany had faced in
World War I and the Great Depression.• Hitler was convinced the only way to improve or purify Germany was
to “eliminate” the Jews and any other group of undesirables.• Poles • Slavs (Russians)• Gypsies• Mentally ill• Political dissidents
Anti-Semitism and Aryan Supremacy • The ideas of Anti-Semitism and Aryan Supremacy played a major role
in the entire Holocaust:
• Anti-Semitism - The prejudice, hatred of, or discrimination against Jews as a religious or racial group.
• Aryan Supremacy - the idea that the Nazi race was supreme to all others.

How were the Jews discriminated against?• Boycotting Jewish Businesses – In 1933, many Jewish businesses were
forced to close and Germans were ordered not to shop there.
Jewish Discrimination (continued)• In the late 1930s, Jews were forced to leave their homes and required
to move to ghettos, or areas that are settled by a large majority of one ethnic or racial group.

The Nuremberg Trials – 1945-1949• Nazi criminals were brought to trial and charged with crimes against
humanity.• Many were found guilty and either hanged, shot, or spent the rest of
their lives in prison.
