LORDs; it is holy to the LORD.

Numbers 18:26Moreover, you shall speak and say to the Levites, When you take from the people of

Israel the tithe that I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall present a contribution

from it to the LORD, a tithe of the tithe.

Deuteronomy 14:22-29You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year.

And before the LORD your God, in the place that he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall

eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, that you

may learn to fear the LORD your God always. And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to

carry the tithe, when the LORD your God blesses you, because the place is too far from you, which the

LORD your God chooses, to set his name there, then you shall turn it into money and bind up the money inyour hand and go to the place that the LORD your God chooses and spend the money for whatever you

desireoxen or sheep or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves. And you shall eat there

before the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household. And you shall not neglect the Levite who

is within your towns, for he has no portion or inheritance with you. At the end of every three years you

shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite,

because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who

are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the LORD your God may bless you in all the

work of your hands that you do.

Deuteronomy 26:1-2 When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you for an

inheritance and have taken possession of it and live in it, you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of

the ground, which you harvest from your land that the LORD your God is giving you, and you shall put it in

a basket, and you shall go to the place that the LORD your God will choose, to make his name to dwell

    there.

Malachi 3:8-10 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In

your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you.

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test,

Acts 2:44-45And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling

their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

Acts 4:32-37Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said

that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common There was

not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought

the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles feet, and it was distributed to each as any had

need. Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement),

a Levite, a native of Cyprus, sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the

    apostles feet.

    GENEROSITY AND MISSION

Genesis 12:1-3I will bless you and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Acts 11:27-30Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. And one of them

named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this

took place in the days of Claudius). So the disciples determined, everyone according to his ability, to send

relief to the brothers living in Judea. And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and

    Saul.

Romans 15:25 At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem bringing aid to the saints. For Macedonia

and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem. For

they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their

spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings. When therefore I have

completed this and have delivered to them what has been collected, I will leave for Spain by way of you.

1 Corinthians 16:1-4Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia,

so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up,as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come. And when I arrive, I will send those

whom you accredit by letter to carry your gift to Jerusalem. If it seems advisable that I should go also, they

    will accompany me.

2 Corinthians 8:1-7 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among

the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme

poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as

I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part

in the relief of the saints and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then

by the will of God to us. Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete amongyou this act of grace. But as you excel in everythingin faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness,

and in our love for yousee that you excel in this act of grace also.

Galatians 2:9-10[W]hen James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace

that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the

Gentiles and they to the circumcised. Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager

    to do.

sin of my soul? He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do

justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?Acts 10:2-4 [Cornelius] gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God. About the

ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, Cornelius. And

he stared at him in terror and said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your alms have

    GIVING WISELY

Galatians 6:10So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who

are of the household of faith.

Proverbs 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has

    done.

Matthew 6:1-4Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them,

for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy,

sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be

praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do

not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your

Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:19-21 Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and

where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth norrust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will

    be also.

Luke 14:12-14 When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your

relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast,

invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you.

For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.

2 Corinthians 8:13-14Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but

that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their

plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality1 Timothy 6:17-19As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their

hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to

do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for

themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
