And our January family emphasis is underway. This week we launch a generation ministry initiative that Brent Roberts and Bill Newton have been dreaming up for a long time. I believe this is going to be a game- changer for many families. In a culture often hostile to our faith and even to people of faith, it’s important that we disciple our children to live Chris- tian lives in this post-Christian culture. That doesn’t just happen by accident. Some of it can, but there needs to be intentionality. Bill and Brent will be offering those tools. So will our guest speaker this week, Richard Ross. Please be present to hear Richard in worship and in a large gath- ering in the worship center during the Sunday School hour. Many of you will also be spending time with him at lunch. Take advantage of this opportunity. Make this important investment in your family. My men’s group will crank up again on Tuesday morning, Jan 21. We’re doing something different this semester. Our practice for years has been to read a quality Christian book and discuss it chapter by chapter in the group. This semester we are going to read the best Christian book ever: the Bible—God’s word to us. And we’re going to read it cover to cover in 90 days. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more excited about my men’s group than I am for this semester. I challenge our men to step up and take on the glorious task of reading through the Bible in 90 days. God will help you if you are willing to commit. We meet at 6:30 a.m. in room 223. You can enter through the gym. Who’s up to the challenge? See you Sunday. If you are familiar with the concept of ‘Family Ministry’ it is very similar. But we are choosing the term Generation Ministry because when people think of ‘family,’ usually the image of a parent with kids still at home comes to mind. And while what we will be implementing certainly will be geared toward parents with kids still at home, many things we will be doing will have principles and actions that apply to empty-nesters, grandparents and folks who are not yet parents but will be someday. Generation ministry literally stretches from the cradle to the grave, not just to one specific age group or life stage.

Coming Soon! A Missions Adventure in Peru Peru is a diverse land with a rich history of an-cient cultures, including the Incan Empire. In our International Mission study in January 2014, we will explore this country that stretches from the Pacific Coast to the Andes Mountains to the Amazon Basin. We will learn how God is mov-ing in Peru today through International Mission Board workers and native Peruvians. This study is also a way for to learn how each of us can become more energized in prayer, giving and volunteerism for efforts in Peru and other parts of the world. Pray, Give, Go! Come join us for a fun day as we "visit Peru" in Room 133 at First Baptist Church on Thursday, January 23, 2014. The tour begins at 10:00 a.m. and will end around 12:30p.m with a light lunch. Everyone is welcome, but please call Janie Woods at 767-1386 to reserve your place on the tour.
