CONSOLIDATED RESULTS AT 30TH SEPTEMBER 2009

Milan, 5 November 2009. At a meeting chaired by Antoine Bernheim, the Board of Directors of Assicurazioni Generali approved the consolidated results at 30 September 2009. Commenting on the results, Antoine Bernheim said: “We are satisfied to report strong growth in the third quarter despite the macroeconomic backdrop, with a healthy recovery in both Life and Non-Life production. We achieved this significant result thanks to our widespread distribution networks, geographical diversification and the attainment of important cost-reduction targets. On this last point, we are reaping the benefits of the investments made in the last few years to boost Group efficiency. This suggests we can expect a higher net profit for the full year compared with 2008.”

Strong recovery in the third quarter. Shareholders’ equity up by € 2 billion to € 13.6 billion (+16.9%)

Net profit for the nine months at € 894 million, exceeding 2008 full-year profit thanks to the significant rebound in third-quarter net profit from € 210 million to € 390 million

Production growth resumes, premiums for the nine months total € 50.4 billion (+1.5%). Life netinflows reach € 11.1 billion (+22%)

• Total premiums € 15.7 billion (+8.9%); Life € 11.1 billion (+12.3%), Non-Life € 4.6 billion (+1.7%)

• New Life production in APE rebounds, reaching € 1,033 million (+11.1%)

• Life net technical reserves up by € 7.7 billion in the 3 months to € 278.6 billion (+2.8% from end of June)

• Overall operating result up to € 928 million (+4.7%) thanks to strong improvement in Life result (+31.1%)

• Net profit rises to € 390 million from € 210 million (+85.4%)

rESULTS FOr THE NINE mONTHS 2009

• Overall premiums € 50.4 billion (+1.5%); Life € 34.2 billion (+2.3%) and Non-Life € 16.2 billion (-0.2%)

• New Life production in APE € 3.4 billion (-5%), a significant recovery compared with end of June

• Life net technical reserves grow by more than 17 billion from the end of 2008 (+6.6%)

• Combined ratio 97.9% from 95.1%. Impact of catastrophic events 1.7 p.p.

• Consolidated operating result € 2.9 billion (-14.2%), an improvement from the 21% decline reported at the end of June

• Expenses and operating charges down 3.8% to € 8.5 billion

• Net profit € 894 million (-46.4%). Confirmation of recovery trend since the second quarter

HONG KONG BRANCH RUNNING fOR OxfAM

Hong Kong SAR, The Hong Kong Branch sponsored the Oxfam Trailwalker one of the largest fundraising sporting events in Hong Kong for poverty alleviation and emergency relief projects in Africa and Asia. The Hong Kong Branch always at the forefront of promotion of sport within society is also, since 2002, an active supporter of the Green Power Hike, the yearly green walkthon in Hong Kong. The decision to support the Oxfam Trailwalker is a further commitment. The 100 km walk, the famous MacLehose Trail, to be finished within 48 hours, was held between November 20th (friday) and 22nd (Sunday). This year, there were 3,420 participants who completed the 100-km trail within the required 48 hours.

Please join in us in congratulating our colleagues for their participation and contribution in this meaningful event. The Generali team completed the 100km trailwalking in 36 hours and 53 minutes:
