Hello my name is Jerry G and I’m an alcoholic.
I serve as DCM for District 55. I recently attended the January Area Quarterly, which was well attended.
Friday night no-host dinner at Smuggler’s Landing was full of fellowshipping and good food! The ice
cream social was very enticing, as well. The Area inventory went well. We discussed the role of a web
servant. Two motions from the 2015 Assembly were presented. I will have available more information
on these motions for the District and GSRs. “Thanks!!” to District 22, the Quarterly committee, and
District 55 for their exceptional efforts. “Well done!” Yours in Service, Jerry G DCM Dist-55

Step Two - Came to believe that a Power
greater than ourselves could restore us to
sanity.
Once upon a time, I listened as my fellow AAs
shared their diverse experiences with Step
Two over the course of their various lengths of
sobriety. As they shared, my hope grew. My
fear of condemnation for being a heathen
subsided. I felt a part of the group. Then, the
chair strayed from group conscience design,
and said we’d say “” prayer. My heart
sank. That feeling of inclusion immediately
vanished, & isolation returned. My strength
ebbed. AA is inaccessible to me, almost.

Tradition Two (Long Form) - For our group purpose there is but one ultimate
authority — a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience.
Concept Two - The General Service Conference of A.A. has become, for nearly every practical
purpose, the active voice and the effective conscience of our whole society in its world affairs.
Informed Voice
How is my voice heard in Alcoholics Anonymous®? The premise that each person is heard
is an important part of Alcoholics Anonymous structure; therefore we listen to one another.
The structure of AA® offers all who come into Alcoholics Anonymous® the opportunity to be
heard. The process begins when I attend a group conscience, or business, meeting of my home
group. I might express an opinion or ask questions of my General Service Representative, GSR.
The group conscience meeting is the forum for discussion of concerns, changes, proposed
actions, and other issues regarding the home group, and AA as a whole.
GSRs express home group members’ opinions at the District and Area levels. Opinions from
Home Groups and District Committees are part of our Delegates’ awareness at the yearly
General Service Conference, GSC, in New York. After each conference, our Delegate reports
about the GSC activities to AAs back home, including members of Area and District
committees. GSRs pass along that info to home group members.
As members of Alcoholics Anonymous, we each have a vote to cast on any business transacted
in our home group. In turn, GSRs vote at District meetings and Area Assemblies, keeping in
mind the groups’ conscience as a guide.
The importance of each person’s voice, and vote, in Alcoholics Anonymous, and all its business,
cannot be overstated. Please take advantage of chances to participate in your home group.
Listeners are particularly needed!
Notes from Darren F, Our Area 72 Delegate!
Over 220 stories were submitted for the three literature projects initiated by the 2015
General Service Conference, plus 20 more stories from Spanish-speaking members.
The trustee committee agreed to forward to the 2016 General Service Conference a
proposal for the development of a “plain language” version of the book, Alcoholics Anonymous.
The 2016 General Service Conference will consider the notion of admitting
representatives from the service structures of other twelve-step programs to observe the
General Service Conference.
