TOPICS, SPEAKERS, & CE HOURS
THE VALUE OF A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT FOR A CHILD (4 Hours Sunday) Amanda Apfelblat, DC, DACCP; Don Galovich, DC, DACCP; and Nicole Poirier Keenan, DC, DACCP
How do we help others see what we are looking for so both parents and insurance companies will want to pay for your care? You need to have the right systems in place to make it easy to communicate what you see. Learn how, with AGE SPECIFIC neurological and musculoskeletal evaluations and exams, you can evaluate and diagnose infants and children more specifically. Our evaluation forms divide ages: infant (0–4 months), baby (5–12 months), toddler (13–36 months and child (4–12 years).
TREATING CHILDREN WITH ACUPUNCTURE (12 Hours – 8 Hours Saturday/4 Hours Sunday) Kristine Tohtz, DC, DABCA, LAc, CACCP, Clinical Director, President and Lecturer at Serenity Family Wellness, Chicago, Illinois
I’m sure you see this title and think, “There’s no way I will be inserting small needles into a wiggling child.” Acupuncture is only one portion of TCM, or Traditional Chinese Medicine, that can be used in the treatment of children. Just like pediatric chiropractic it entails proper training, time, sensitivity, a gentle yet confident touch and a new vocabulary. Dr. Tohtz will teach how to care for children in a traditional Chinese medicine setting. Using proper technique and proper needle size is only part of the key to treatment; other factors include proper diagnosis and knowing how long you can leave a child on their therapy. Using not just acupuncture, Dr. Tohtz will instruct on the use of pediatric tui na, a special type of massage translated as push-pull for various conditions such as coughs, colds, diarrhea constipation and learning disabilities like ADD or ADHD. In addition to learning acupuncture diagnosis and treatment patterns, cupping or ba gua, laser meridian therapy and Chinese herbs will also be included to maximize treatment benefits for our youngest patients.
