Dear Church Friends,

Max Lucado’s book “Jesus, the God Who Knows Your Name,” pictured a Jesus that liked to have fun. The people were drawn to Jesus. He called people by name. He listened to their stories. He answered questions. Jesus said, “I came to give life with joy and abundance.” (John 10:10) Jesus was happy and I believe He wants His people to be happy.

Loot at Luke 2:10 when the angels announced the arrival of Jesus. They proclaimed, “Good news of great joy.” Not bad news. I wonder where we get the notion that a good Christian could not have fun and enjoy life? Who said the sign of a Christian was a sad face with bad news? Max Lucado said, “I think Jesus went to the wedding in Cana to have some fun.”

I want our church to share good news and have fun together. “For God so loved the world that WHOEVER believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

DO I HAVE ALZHEIMER’SBut isn’t it a bad sign if I forget??? People will think I have Alzheimer’s! It is hard to believe it is ok to forget – sometimes it is helpful. God is creating a new you for a new purpose. It is hard to understand what happens to our minds. Some forgetfulness is easily explained. To name a few: being tired, too many things going on, distractions, interruptions, etc. When is it NOT normal? When it disrupts your daily life; you have difficulty completing daily tasks; you feel confused with time or place; you have problems with words or speaking; and you have a change in your mood. Most often, YOU are not the one who notices. Pay attention to those who know you and love you. What can you do to help your mind: eat a healthy and balanced diet (no processed foods and less meat), take care of your heart health (normal BP), exercise and stay active, be engaged in a group to have regular discussions, challenge your brain by learning a new task regularly. Pray! Stay connected to our Father and His Son and the Holy Spirit.

HOUSEHOLD CLEANER WARNINGBabies exposed to the fumes from common household cleaners during their first few months are more likely to develop asthma as youngsters. The more highly exposed youngsters were also significantly more likely to have chronic allergies. The researchers suggest that parents should try natural cleaning products and choose those free of dye and perfume when possible.

LOVE YOUR PETMany of you already know this, but it bears repeating!! People are healthier when they own pets. Blood pressure

reduces when interacting with their pets. Pets also help us emotionally, they facilitate good behavior, decrease loneliness and stimulate exercise and laughter. Pet’s help us network with others so we socialize more often.

MENTAL ILLNESSMental illness is rising in EVERY country. Depression is most common along with anxiety. Among the Millennials (those aged 24-39), depression is the fastest growing health condition according to a Blue Cross/Blue Shield report. And 75 percent of GenZer’s (those ages 23 and younger) report leaving a job in part because of mental health reasons. Suicide ranks as the third leading cause of death for 15 to 19-year-olds. Shame and embarrassment are listed as reasons to suffer in silence. Don’t let this become a silent epidemic.

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

PRAYER and STEPHEN MINISTRY

A.S.K.Luke 11:5-14: 5Then Jesus said to them... 8I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need. 9So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened... 13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Ask – seek – knock – seems simple enough doesn’t it? BUT how do I ask? What do I ask for? AND where in the world do I go seeking? Is there some special door I’m supposed to knock on? You understand Jesus is talking about prayer, right?! David recorded his “ranting”, “raving” and “praising” prayers in the book of Psalms. Our Loving Father GOD welcomes ALL our emotion driven prayers. It’s what HE’s waiting for, you to come to HIM.

KEEP PRAYING, ALWAYS IN ALL PLACESLuke 18:1-8: Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up… 6And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

GOD has been speaking to me about my “persistence” in prayer. He’s nudging me each day to pray at lunch for His chosen individual to play piano for the choir and first service. He’s been reminding me each day to pray at lunch for our church and those who faithfully work each day to be sure His flock is well cared for. He’s prompting me to pray each day at lunch for unity among believers, both within our congregation and the church universal. Believing and praying...praying and believing. We must know HIS TRUTH before we can share HIS TRUTH. Matthew laid out his record of Jesus in a logical sequential manner. Luke chose to share the story of the Acts of the Apostles rather like an action movie. John quietly and persistently shares Jesus’ LOVE. Where will you turn for the TRUTH? If you type “prayer” into the search box of Biblegateway.com, it lists 154 scriptures about prayer! If you open the “topical index” tab, it lists 121 different types of prayer and where to find them! Where will you ask – seek – knock??As always, the Prayer and Stephen Ministry teams are available to walk beside you as you seek HIS TRUTH.In Christ’s service, Cathy Mosier

Mission Committee Opportunitiesby DAVE NANCEThe Holy Spirit continues to provide opportunities for service to the Mission Committee for your consideration. Please pray over these and the many missions of your Church.

RESPOND MISSION AND JUSTICE SUMMITWe will be attending the Respond Mission and Justice Summit on March 28. We have registered ten members from our congregation. That is awesome! Look for some good ideas for improved outreach as a result of the attendance at this summit. This will be the third year for this event. The last two were excellent! The website describes it best: “The Mission and Justice Summit is an exciting opportunity for United Methodists from across Indiana to gather, learn and share about mission and service opportunities. During the Summit, participants will discover new ways to become more missional and share what they are doing to engage in and impact their communities.”

For more information about the summit, you can visit the website at, https://inumc.swoogo.com/mjs2020. Additional registrations should be possible, but may need to be made on an individual basis. If you wish to attend please contact [email protected].

MISSION TRIP TO HENDERSON SETTLEMENT IN APRILWe have a group of six to ten traveling to Henderson Settlement for the week of April 6. We have time to customize our activities for a larger group. At the present time we are focused on projects that are all on-campus. We will also be connecting with the outreach programs of the Mission, attempting to meet with all the leadership at some point during the trip. Please contact [email protected] as soon a possible if you are at all interested in traveling for all or part of this trip. We can customize the activities with those attending to provide the perfect place for YOU.

SHINE MINISTRYPlease look for exciting changes coming to our SHINE Ministry. A support group for mothers of children or adults with disabilities just started on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the SHINE home room. Additional programs are in the works! If you would like to know more about this disability ministry, please contact Beth DeHoff at [email protected]. Please keep the ministry in your prayers!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILDWe need a leader for Operation Christmas Child this year. Yes, it is early to start talking about Christmas, but this is a great time to volunteer to be the leader for the program. Please let us know if you wish to know more about this awesome program. You can contact Kim Vedder or Dave Nance for more information.

WORSHIP

7MARCH 2020

Overflowby CHAYLYN THOMPSONDuring this time of change and transition at Mooresville FUMC, I and the second service worship team are focusing a lot on authentic worship. You may have noticed a change in the usage of music tracks. There is a reason for that. For us, in this season, really getting down to the basics and making sure our priorities are where they should be are both very important as we strive to grow closer to each other and to God.

Another way we’re pushing to be more authentic with our worship is by opening up the worship time to those beyond the confines of our specific worship service and our church walls. Eventually, this will mean becoming more involved in the community by doing things like hosting worship nights outside of the church, having Bible studies together and opening them up to the entire church, etc.

We’re beginning this outreach effort in a small way on Saturday, March 7. On this evening, we will be hosting a worship and fellowship night open to the entire church and anyone outside of the church you’d like to invite. Seriously, there are a ton of handouts around the church…take one to give someone. In addition to worship music, there will be a time of fellowship where we can all just hang out and get to know one another on a deeper level than might be possible on a Sunday morning. There will be various kinds of coffee and some baked goods – because if I’m planning something, you can be sure coffee will be involved somewhere ;) This event is called Overflow and will be taking place from 7 to 9 p.m.

If you’d like to get involved in helping with this evening, please feel free to reach out to me via email. As a team, we’re so excited about Overflow and we hope you’ll come!

Speaking to needs specific to the second service worship ministry, we are currently looking for new band members as well as media and audio team members. If you are gifted in any of these areas or are interested in more information, please reach out to me.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement throughout this transition. I and the entire team look forward to growing with you as we pursue God together, as a church.

What Do You Think?

As we venture into 2020, we want your opinion! Throughout the year we will be posting polls during all three services. These polls will be created to incorporate the views, opinions, and theology of the congregation here at Mooresville FUMC. The website we will be using to integrate these polls into the service will be menti.com. All you will have to do is log into the website on your smartphone and put in a unique 6-digit number that will be displayed on Sunday mornings during service.
