FLEXIBLE IMPLEMENTATION OPTIONSNow there is a proven, cost-efficient solution to traffic and policy management needs in broadband networks and campus or enterprise Wide Area Networks. The GENBAND P50 provides the power, flexibility and functionality needed to optimize traffic in today’s more crowded and critical networks.

The P50 is the mid-range, multi-Gbps platform in the GENBAND P Series Traffic and Policy Management (TPM) product family. This space-efficient, packed 2RU rack-mounted appliance supports configu-rations up to 24 Ethernet channel interfaces that can be used for traffic processing, network reducndancy, or traffic diversion.

The P50 is ideally suited for access/edge broadband network de-ployments, and for WAN connectivity in campus or enterprise environ-ments. This solution leverages GENBAND’s robust P Series firmware, making the P50 the preferred approach for in-line deployments. The P50 co-exists cleanly with the GENBAND P1, P2, P5, P10, P20 and higher-end P80 and P320 solutions, and leverages advanced TPM capabilities such as P Series LiveView, Filtering and Traffic Shaping.

The P50 features easily accessible network interfaces, hard drives and power supplies, allowing easy field replacement. This solution also enables a mix of copper (RJ-45) and fiber (SX/LX/SR/LR) channels.

Traffic statistics gathered by the P50 are pushed to a component of the GENBAND P Series Intelligence Center using statistics server capabilities on GENBAND PM2, PM10 or other management platforms. Statistics can be run directly on the P50 for deployments with a maximum of 50,000 local hosts. GENBAND P Series devices typically rely on the network for redundancy when deployed as a transparent device, and can be combined with any Layer 2 or Layer 3 load-sharing or redundancy configuration. The P50 internal Ethernet interfaces support bypass switching, but can also support an external network bypass device.

By clustering multiple, load-sharing P50 devices, network operators can gain scalable capacity, network resilience, and the option of straight-through or full functional redundancy.

EXAMPLES OF P50 DEPLOYMENTS

ROBUST FUNCTIONALITYThe GENBAND P50 is an integrated two (2) rack unit (RU) 19” rack-mounted appliance with redundant AC or DC power supplies. As a transparent Layer 2 device, the P50 utilizes a channel approach with bonded internal and external interfaces. These interfaces can be any kind of Gigabit Ethernet (GE) – RJ-45 copper or single-mode (LX)/multimode (SX) fiber -- or Ten Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) fiber. Interfaces are deployed as physical channel modules. This Layer 2 design as-signs no IP addresses to these interfaces, which substantially increases security by disabling targeted attacks. This approach also reduces latency and network impact, while boosting capacity and simplifying deployment.

The P50 incorporates three (3) systems management interfaces – Admin, AUX and Console. The systems management interfaces are

RJ-45 BASE-10/100/1000. The Admin interface remotely connects the Admin client and other network management systems. The AUX interface can be dedicated to statistical activities or to QueueSync connectivity in asymmetric network deployments. The console port sup-ports systems setup through the CLI (Command Line Interface) or SSH.

PART OF THE P SERIES FAMILYThe P50 is an integral part of the GENBAND P Series solutions for next-generation Traffic and Policy Management.

The P50 fully leverages P Series family-wide capabilities, including pertinent asymmetric traffic support, a unique classification and identification engine, and real-time views. P Series devices can characterize flows associated with specific applications, including streaming, interactive, and seemingly random flows. The P50 and other P Series solutions can be used to aggregate detailed traffic properties such as filename, SIP caller ID, chat channel and mime-type. Fine-grained details are available in real-time view from network level down to

device level

All P Series solutions are backed by GENBAND professional support, including intelligent services, network planning, tools and resources needed to evolve networks to the next level. The P Series Traffic and Policy Management product family also fully comple-ments the full GENBAND fixed and mobile telecommunications solutions.
