A VIEW TO THE FUTURE

Kym’s comment

Dear families & friends Enterprise Market The Senior Learning Centre students showcased their financial learning most successfully through the Enterprise Market this week. The students had worked in teams to create small busi-nesses. Firstly, they worked together in teams to decide on a concept. Then they advertised widely and created business cards! The Enterprise Market was a great success with many businesses selling out! Well done again to our great Senior Learning Centre students- you all showed great team skills and persistence with your learning. Thank you to all the community for supporting this very important learning program.

Transition 2015-2016 Next week the year 6 students will go to their secondary col-lege for a day visit. This is an important step in their education. We wish them well. Our 2016 foundation students will contin-ue on their journey to school with a half day in the Junior Learning Centre next week. They have already had many days visiting the school. This year we have provided an intensive kinder to school transition program with kinder students vis-iting the school each week. The 2016 Foundation students will be here for their final transition visit on Tuesday 8 December. There will be a sausage sizzle for the 2016 Foundation students and their families next Tuesday 8 December at 5.30pm. The foundation buddies for next year will also be present. An in-formation session for foundation families will be held after the sausage sizzle. Students from all other grades are participating in a school based transition program visiting other learning centres and participating in activities with the other students and teachers. The in-school transition will continue until the end of the school year. School Council The last school council for 2015 was held last week. School Council has had a successful and busy year. Throughout the year School Council discussed and passed a number of motions in regard to finance, school policies and facilities. The school is in a sound financial state. A number of policies were drafted and reviewed and were published in the newsletter. The school is well resourced with outstanding facilities inside and

out. School Council manages the OSHC program which contin-ues to be successful and well used. I would like to thank the following council members for their commitment and contri-bution to our school this year: Ann Liston, Claire Coffen, Hay-ley Tregidga, Brad Whatman, Jessie Hutcheson, Dale Bigwood, Jo McCrohan, Mary Toogood, Jacqui McLean and President, Daniel Mc Coey. We will be holding elections for School Coun-cil early in 2016. School Review and Strategic Plan 2015 has been a year of review for the school. All aspects of the school have been audited and discussed by various school teams. Now that the school has had the review day the next step is to develop a Strategic Plan for 2016-2019. This plan will describe programs and actions to be implement-ed to improve the school facilities, programs and achieve-ments. Each year the school will develop an Annual Implemen-tation Plan. These documents are developed by the teaching team after consideration of various data sets and input from various members of the school community. The School Council discusses and ratifies these documents. The Department of Education and Training monitors the development of these documents and requires all schools to undertake these actions. This years’ review showed that the school is in a sound finan-cial position, has outstanding facilities and resources, sound management practices, all curriculum documents are as they should be and the students are making excellent progress with their learning. PFA Team Thank you to the 2015 team! They have been a fantastic team. Their mission is to raise money and build community. They have held many events, raised money for the school and have had a number of events for our community. The Trivia Night was a highlight! Funds raised through PFA events this year have contributed to more ipads in the classrooms. Thank you to Presidents – Rachael and Tracey and team mates – Fiona, Sylvia, Justine, Tanya, Sarah and Dana. Christmas Concert The Christmas Concert will be held on Thursday 10 December. The PFA will provide a sausage sizzle starting at 5:30pm . The concert will begin at 6:00 pm Kids Run Gembrook This Friday after assembly all students will participate in a fun run. If you are able to assist on the day please contact the office. Students are encouraged to get family and friends to sponsor them and to be there on the day to cheer them along. A note was sent home two weeks ago and is available on the school website: www.gembrookps.vic.edu.au Have a great week.

Chaplain Update Hey everyone, This week was my 1st experience of GPS's Enterprise Market & I was blown away. I literally emptied my piggy bank (which was roughly $20 in silver) & thoroughly enjoyed spending every cent. Amongst my purchases I bought 3 bargain board games (which will go towards BGT - Board Games Tuesdays), a cupcake I almost felt too guilty too eat as it looked like art, a delicious slice, a di-vine brownie, a Hawaiian pizza, a blue heaven milkshake and to top it off I had so much fun making my very own pet rock which I have named Johnicle (a nickname one of the Year 6's Blake created for me earlier this year). And talking about Blake, congrat-ulations on taking a few for the team yesterday with the water bombs. I lost count at seven. He'll know what I mean by that. I have to mention what a great team (student, teacher & parent) effort it was to pull off something that provides such a great expe-rience for the Grade 5's & 6's. And once again I have to use the word FUN for the community. It was great seeing jumping castles, bobbing for apples, pony rides, face painting and much more delicious foods and drinks. I also want to take this time to thank a generous GPS Mum who donated a whole heap of Woolworths Dinosaur cards to me. Just yesterday I once again brought huge smiles to 3 children's faces as I gave them the ONE missing card from their collection. If you have any Woolworths dinosaur cards available so I can help put these smiles on children's faces, please drop them off at the front desk. I am available to support members of the school community. If you would like to know more about the Chaplaincy Program or would like your child to have an appointment with me to discuss any issues, please contact the school office. Kind Regards, John Chambers Chaplain

OSHC ART We have been looking at Aboriginal art from different places within Aus-

tralia from the past and present. Contemporary artist Ngarra inspired us

today. We painted using bleach. We explored aerial views of Gembrook and

the night sky, using pattern dots and line and drawing back over the top

with markers.
