    Come one come all to the clubs annual show! The show is at 4645Heatherdowns Blvd, Toledo, OH. Hours are Friday 2-8, Saturday 10-6Sunday 11-5.

    Memberships expire at the end of September. Renew today to maintainyour member privileges. The renewal form is printed on page 9.

    Hi Everyone:Its time for the Big Show! This is the time of year that we all get busyexcited and crazy as we prepare for the best event of our club. If youhavent signed up to work yet, or to donate food for the hospitality areanow is the time! This event is our biggest fundraiser for the year whawe make here keeps us going every year.

    We have some exciting things going on for the Show this year: a newFluorescent Display (longwave only for this year) and new club shirts

    with our logo for Club members to wear. The dealers are all lined upand we have more display cases requested this year, including a caseby the Juniors Group. We hope to see EVERYONE there!

    On other fronts, we have several field trips being planned, Fossicollecting in Dayton/Cinci area with Tom Marok, Bancroft, Ontario withJoel Vicary, and another Indiana to Missouri trip with Jerri Heer. Keepan eye out for more details on those or contact the specific coordinatorfor more info.

    I am always proud to be a representative of this great organization. will be heading to Peoria as our MWF Delegate. Each time I talk to

    other groups and compare whaopportunities we have compared tomany other clubs, I get more excitedabout the Toledo Gem & RockhoundClub. But we have to remember, thisclub is what WE make it! We all havethe choice to be involved, sharecontribute and teach each other. Theopportunities are here make themost of them!

    President Jerri Heer called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance at 7p.m. The guest speakerNikki Elkins from BGSU, presented a program on Geojourney. After a short break for refreshments, the clubreconvened for the business portion of the meeting at 8:09 p.m.

    Secretary's Report: John Hull moved to accept the minutes as published. Elie Ghanime seconded. Motion

    carried.

    Treasurer's report: Steve Shimatzki said the CD was being renewed. Mike Burcewicz asked about otheinvestment vehicles for the club's funds. Steve also mentioned that club membership renewals were starting tocome in. The renewal date is September. Steve said there were no unusual bills. Linda Scharer moved to filethe report for audit. Tom Marok seconded. The motion carried.

    Jerri reminded members to sign in at the back as Tonia was not present.

    Old Business: This was the last day to sign up for club polo shirts.

    Jerri said that there have been discussions with the herb society to gain more space for the club.

    New Business: Carla Burleson needs help with hospitality for the show.

    Group Reports:TBG: Chet King said the next event is Heralding the Holidays, December 3-5th and there is a per table feeMetalcrafters side is already full and Jerri will handle requests for Gemcrafters side.

    If people are interested in volunteering at TBG's fall plant sale on Sunday October 3rd, they should contactToni Moore at the Gardens' office.

    Gemcrafters: Elie said there is no Saturday open cutting at present. Jeff Wheeler is fixing an oil leak on thesaw and putting splashguards on machines. Elie reminded people to use the colored water in the jugs with the

    diamond wheels.

    Metalcrafters: Deb Hoffmaster said the upcoming schedule is in the Rocky Reader.

    Beaders: Nancy Grove said the Beaders will continuemaking small beaded boxes in September then will work onprojects in October and November. The group will shutdown for the winter after the November meeting.

    Extreme Beaders: Shirley Stieb said the group is back onthe winter schedule on the first and third Tuesdays from 2-6:30 p.m.

    Faceteers: Don Ault said the group met last week. Donand Dick Bower will be demonstrating at the show.

    Faceteers II: Elie said the club has a faceting machine torent to members by the week for a nominal amount of $20-25. Members wishing to rent the machine have to havesuccessfully completed a class. Jerri suggested the grouptake one of the machines to the show to set up with Donand Dick. Elie said he needs to know if there is interest inanother class. The cost would be $40 for two days.

    Juniors: The next scheduled meeting is Sunday, August 22 from noon-2 p.m. Jerri said the juniors will havea display case of some of their projects at the show.

    Fossils: Tom Marok said the field trip to the Dayton- Cincinnati area will be 4 days, from September 29through October 2. The group will stay at a Motel 6 for the 4 days and people can come for all four days or jusone day. He will put a notice in the Rocky Reader. The group's next meeting is Thursday August 24th a6:30p.m.

    Tom said that the field trip to Flint Ridge trip was very successful.

    Rocky Reader: The deadline for copy is Monday, August 23rd.

    Sunshine: Lucille Burgy said Betty Miller, a former member, had died and there were displays of her hobby atthe service. Carla Burleson was hospitalized but is now home.

    Field trips: Jerri gave Harold's report. There is no information about a trip to Bancroft, Ontario this fall on JoeVicary's website. Jerri said there is an upcoming 3 day trip to Indiana, Illinois and Missouri to collect the thirdweek in October.

    Show: Jerri said Harold needs help with loading the truckLoading will start at 8:30 Thursday September 9th. Carlaneeds volunteers to help with hospitality Thursday andFriday. Raffle tickets have been mailed to members. Yardsigns are available to put out and need to be returned to theclub. Flyers are printed and can be put out now. Natalie Hilasked if there was a pdf file to send the entire flyer to friendsas an attachment. Steve said they could make thaavailable. Elie asked about club applications at the showSteve said the applications would be at the front door.There will be one place selected to take applications andpay dues. Jerri said the club still needs donations for kids

    kits and silent auction. Raffle prizes can be brought in theday of the show. Bonnie Wheeler said she would bring hedonation to craft center on Wednesday.

    Open House: The Fall Open House will be November 13-14. There is a sign up sheet for tables. Contact CarlaBurleson to reserve table space.

    Mike Burcewicz asked if the club could donate to the Geojourney program. Jerri said it should be brought tothe Board, then to the membership.

    John Capuano moved to adjourn. Elie seconded. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned a

    Former member Betty J. Biller passed away on Saturday, August 7th. She was a registered nurse for over 40years. Betty donated several rocks to the Touch & Feel Table and worked with me at my table. She joined in1973 till 2003. At the funeral home, the tables were decorated with her rocks. Our prayers are with her family.

    The Show is right around the corner! Were counting down the days and keeping busy with final preparationsBy now, everyone should have received a mailing with raffle tickets and coupons to pass out. Were hoping foa great turn out this year, help spread the word.

    This show is the largest source of income for the club and offsets a lot of the clubs daily operating expenses.

    Its also the best time to advertise our club to potential members. It keeps our club alive. Dont miss youopportunity to get involved. Deb & Kathy have been calling and emailing to fill in the volunteer scheduleThere are still slots that need workers!

    Were still accepting donations, if you have items for Raffle prizes, Silent Auction, Club Sales, or Kids AreaDonations may be dropped off at the Stranahan during setup. We still need food to feed everyone duringThursday & Friday setup. You can view the hospitality needs online or contact Suzanne.

    For those who have signed up to work during Thursday and Friday setup, we will be at the Stranahan startingat 8AM both days. We will be there all day. Come and stay as long as you can. If you signed up for Sundaystake down, we will start immediately after the show closes at 5.

    November 13, 2010. 10AM. CHAINMAILLE CLASS: Instructor: KathyPetersen. Project is a Queens Link/Box Link bracelet, with a decorative,

    focal glass toggle from Hager Studios. Class Fee $80 payable to Kathy.

    January 22, 2011. 10AM. Keum-boo. Instructor Debra Hoffmaster.Fee $60.00. Learn this ancient Korean technique.

    February 12, 2011. 10AM. Twisted wire heart. Instructor DebraHoffmaster. Fee $20.00. Participants will make a simple wire heart, halfof which is twisted. This class requires only basic soldering skills.

    March 19, 2011. 10AM. Chasing and repousse. Instructor: DebraHoffmaster. Fee $30.00. Use chasing tools to create a bas-relief oncopper.

    April 16, 2011. 10AM. Enameled Picture Bowl Session 1. InstructorDebra Hoffmaster Fee $30.00. In this class, students will raise ashallow copper bowl from 18ga copper.

    April 23, 2011. 10AM. Enameled Picture Bowl, Session 2. InstructorHarriet Nearing. Fee $30. Please NOTE: Anyone registering to attendthis session MUST have also registered for Session 1. In this session,students will enamel the bowl made in session 1. Using a brush-onliquid enamel, students will produce a white surface which can be drawnthrough to produce a pattern. This patterned white section will betopped with a transparent enamel to produce a patterned shallow dish.

    Fossil Hunting fieldtrip, Southwestern Ohio Septembe29 to October 2. We may stay till October 3rd if youare interested. This Multiday fossil hunt will consist onumber of productive sites that Tom Marok hasscoped out recently this year. Lots of collectingopportunities of various fossils. Typical safety

    equipment and tools required. We will meeSeptember 29th at Caesar Creek State Park at8:30am. All days after that, we will use the Motel 6 aSharonville as the base.
