Introduction
This guide is intended exclusively for the owners and operators of GE commercial aero turbo machinery. It has been prepared as a guide for use during lubrication of the CF34-10 fan blades and associated hardware. The purpose of this guide is to provide a quick and accurate way to visually identify the condition of the hardware and coatings, and the intended lubrication procedure for the CF34-10 fan blade, shim, spacer, retainer, disk, and booster.
The data/images presented here do not supersede or replace any FAA approved documents (Engine Service Manual, Service Bulletins, Aircraft Maintenance Manual, etc). This document and the material within it are subordinate to Aircraft and Engine Maintenance Manuals.

The intent of the cleaning procedure is to remove the top-coat lube ONLY. The base-coat lube should remain intact after proper cleaning. Recommended tools include: • Solvent pump sinks • Nylon brushes • Non-abrasive Scotch Brite Pads • Other non-abrasive cleaning tools
Tools to avoid include: • Abrasive Scotch Brite Pads • Wire brushes • Other abrasive cleaning tools

Recommended Tools for Top-Coat Lubricant
Application
• Gloved Finger
• Artists Brush less than 0.5” width
• Narrow sponge
Approved Top-Coat Lubricants:
• Molykote G-n Paste (grease paste)
• Molykote G Rapid Plus Paste (grease paste)
NOTE: Spray-form (aerosol) top-coat lubricants are NOT currently approved for use on CF34-10.

• Dark grey baked-on base-coat evident along entire pressure face surface
Fielded fan blade with good base-coat:
• Dark grey to black base-coat still evident along pressure face
• Aft end of pressure face may be slightly darker where shim does not contact blade dovetail

Fielded fan blade with bad base-coat:
• Base-coat missing in local areas - wear coating is light silver and more porous than the dark gray base-coat lube
• Base-coat completely missing down to wear coating (light silver color)
• Note small area of remaining base-coat at aft end of pressure face where there is was no contact with shim

Good top-coat:
• Light even coating of entire fan blade root
• Important to apply lube to all areas that will contact the shim
• Only enough lube to cover the surface without being able to see the metal or base-coat thru the lube

• A thin even coat of lube should be applied to all internal surfaces of the shim – just thick enough to coat the metal surfaces
• External surfaces of the shim will be coated later, after the shim is installed

Good top-coat:
• Thin uniform layer of top-coat lube applied to entire exterior surface of the shim including the bottom surfaces
• Apply only enough top-coat lube to cover the surface and be visually seen (complete coverage of the shim surface)
• Slightly heavier coating on dovetail pressure faces to assure complete lube coverage in the interface with the fan disk dovetail pressure faces
