At Gedling Homes we want all our neighbourhoods tobe great places to live. We want them to look great,have great services, feel safe and be a place for bothwork and recreation.

We have produced a neighbourhood promise for eachof Gedling Homes’ neighbourhood areas and this one isyours. The promise will run for 3 years and will bereviewed annually with tenants, to assess our progressagainst the actions.

Partnership working is the key to creating greatneighbourhoods, as no one agency can do it all on theirown. We would like everyone to work together, todecide how their local neighbourhood should developand grow in the future, to improve on the services theydon’t like and maintain those that they do.

Your plan identifies the main issues that affect yourneighbourhood and what needs to be done both by usand our partner organisations to address them.

Woodborough is a small village, located 7 milesnorth-east of Nottingham with a population of justunder 2,000.

Woodborough was traditionally a ‘framework-knitting’village, and some two-story cottages with ground-floorknitter’s windows remain at the junction of High Streetand Shelt Hill. The village has its own primary school,two very popular pubs, sited at either end of thevillage; and Woodborough Hall, a popular hoteland restaurant.

Burton Joyce is a large village and civil parish with apopulation of nearly 4,000. The village sits on the RiverTrent, and is home to Burton Joyce railway station.Due to the proximity of the river and nearbycountryside, Burton Joyce has a pleasant andpicturesque atmosphere and has three popular pubsthat attract visitors from far afield.

Lambley is a small village and is mentioned in theDomesday Book of 1086 by the name of Lambeleia.There is a stream called Cocker Beck runningthrough the “Dumbles” (woods) and on through themiddle of the village. The Dumbles are a favouredroute for ramblers.

The village is secluded in a horseshoe shaped valley.It is a popular place for people to visit, to drink andeat in the pubs and to visit the garden centre onCatfoot Lane.

Lambley has no local shops but still boasts one of thefew remaining locally run village garages in the area,“Lambley Motors”.

Buses run at limited times throughout the day fromWoodborugh and Lambley into Nottingham CityCentre where a wider range of services can beaccessed. The bus route from Burton Joyce has morefrequent journey times.

Working with our tenants we have identified a range ofmeasures that tell us how well your neighbourhood isdoing. These are called neighbourhood indicators andwill be used alongside the feedback we have collectedfrom tenants and residents. The information will tell ushow much and what type of support we and ourpartners need to provide to your neighbourhood.

Our tenants have told us to use a simple star rating,from 1-5, with 5 being the best. We will give a starrating to a range of indicators to identify a final,overall score.
