LOOK TO THE SKIES:* July 4 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side

of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. Thisphase occurs at 11:01 UTC. This is the best time of the month toobserve faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters becausethere is no moonlight to interfere.

Launchedon August 5, 2011, Juno will be inserted into a polar orbit aroundthe giant planet on or around July 4, 2016. From this orbit the spacecraft will study Jupiter’s atmosphere and magnetic field. Juno will remain in orbit until October 2017, when the spacecraftwill be de-orbited to crash into Jupiter.

* July 19 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the oppositeside of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 22:57 UTC. This full moon wasknown by early Native American tribes as the Full Buck Moon because the male buck deer would begin to grow their new antlers at this time of year. This moon has also been known as theFull Thunder Moon and the Full Hay Moon.

* July 28, 29 - Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower. The Delta Aquarids is an average shower that can produce up to20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by comets Marsden and Kracht. The shower runs annually from July 12 to August 23. It peaks this year on the nightof July 28 and morning of July 29. . SUMMERTIME SAFETYSUMMERTIME WILL SOON be here and people will be outside enjoying thesunshine. The long, warm days offer the perfect setting for picnics, camping, swimming and family barbeques. However, just as cold weather can pose certain threats to our health, so can thehot and humid conditions of an Ohio summer. Keep in mind that intense heat is most dangerous for the veryyoung, elderly, obese and chronically ill; therefore, extra precautions should be taken by those individuals. Formost of us, the following simple tips will enable us to enjoy a safe and happy summer:• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing. • Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, protective clothing andsunscreen when in the sun. • Drink plenty of fluids, avoiding alcohol and caffeinated beverages, although a lightcaffeine tea, such as green tea, can contain agents that may be slightly protective. • Limit high-protein foods asthese increase metabolic heat. • Avoid outdoor exertion and sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the hottesttime of the day with the highest UV rays. A simple way to remember is: Short shadow = seek shadeWhenever possible, seek out air-conditioned surroundings when the temperature really soars.Use sunscreen liberally and often, choosing one with both UVA protection and an SPF of at least 30.Sunburn, which has been termed a “precancerous glow,” can be a serious condition, sometimes leading to severepain, redness and even blistering. In such cases, you should always seek medical attention. For milder cases, aloe vera gel, ice packs, nonprescription pain relievers and hydrocortisone cream may providerelief. However, prevention is always the better choice.
