Parcan• Accessories: Gel, Gel

Frame, G-Clamp, Safety Chain, Adjustable Arm.

• Used For: Music Gigs- Chases, Creates General State. Also can be used on a Boom.

• I would use a parcan for a chase in a music gig for example as you can use coloured gels and they also light a large area of space with a beam angle of 24 degrees with the bulb CP62. Id use a parcan over a profile as the light is too concentrated and as is a birdi. A birdi would be too small and not powerful enough to create a effective chase.

LED Parcan• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain.• Used For: General Cover,

same type of light as Par Can but is energy saving and can be controlled by lighting desk, Music Gigs.

• To provide multiple colour enabling the mood to change in a piece of theatre I would use a LED parcan as through the use of a DMX they can controlled through the desk and create primary colours. I would use this light over a parcan because the colour can only be changed through gel frames.

Spot Light- Source Four• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Shutters, Gel Frames, Gels, Gobo, Gobo Holder, Iris.

• Used for: Can manipulate light used for defining space, highlighting people, can make light larger or smaller with knob.

• To isolate a actor on stage I would use a source four because it is a concentrated circle of light, I would use a source four over a flood as floods cannot be controlled in relation to making a spotlight.

CCT Minuette Profile• Accessories: G-Clamp,

Safety Chain, Shutters, Gel Frames, Gels, Gobo, Gobo Holder, Iris.

• Used for: Can manipulate light used for defining space, highlighting people, can make light larger or smaller with knob.

• I would use a Minuette Profile to create a window effect in a performance as you can use a GOBO in the Minuette Profile. I’d use it over a CCT because it is not a special and therefore you cannot use a GOBO in them.

Fresnel- PC• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Barn Doors, Gel Frame, Gel, Adjustable Arm, 15amp plug, Adjustable knob.

• Used for: Used for general cover or as a last resort spot, has a pebble lenses that effects the harshness of the light.

• I would use a PC if all the profiles are broken and I need to create a isolated light, I would do this because it shares the same pebble convex lenses as the profiles meaning it has the same defined edge to the light. I would use a PC over a selecon as a selecon has a ridged edged lens and therefore is a more defined light.

Fresnel- CCT• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Gel Frame, Gel, Adjustable Knob, Adjustable Arm, Barn Doors, 15amp.

• Used for: The adjustable knob increases or decreases the beam angle. The ridged circular lenses creates a defused even spread light, the only thing that makes the CCT different from the Selecon is the variation in Beam Angle.

• If I wanted to side light a dance performance I would use a CCT as they can be used on a boom and you can use barn doors to manipulate the light, I would use it over a pin spot as a pin spot would be too weak and not large enough.

Fresnel- Selecon• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Gel Frame, Gel, Adjustable Knob, Adjustable Arm, Barn Doors, 15amp.

• Used for: General state, only difference between this and the CCT is the variation in beam angle. Can be used as a back light helping the people on stage to be seen against a black cyclorama.

• If I wanted to create a general wash at a Christmas show I would use a Selecon as they are good for creating a general wash . I would use this over a parcan as parcan’s should only be used for adding depth to general washes.

Fresnel- 1K• Accessories: G-clamp,

Safety Chain, Gel, Gel Frame, Barn Doors, 15amp Plug.

• Used for: Largest Fresnel with twice as much power meaning it’s a bright light but does not mean that it has a larger range. It can be used for back light and also general washes.

• I would use a 1k when creating a back light for a Musical Theatre performance as they are a powerful light, I would use them over a profile as the light from them is too defined.

Page 10: GC1 Lighting Portfolio

Flood Light• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Gel Frame, Gel, 15amp plug.

• Used for: Used for lighting audience or for lighting cyclorama. Can use within a general wash but not by itself.

• I would use a flood if I wanted to light the cyclorama in a piece of theatre because a flood covers a large amount of space with a large beam angle, I would use them over a birdi as they aren't powerful enough to cover the space needed.

Birdie • Accessories: Safety

Chain, G-Clamp, Gel Frame, Gel, Barn Doors, 13/15amp plug.

• Used for: Museum exhibitions, Art Gallery's, Can be used on truss’.

• If I wanted to light the audience I would use a birdi because they are aesthetically pleasing and are not too bright. I would use them over a parcan as parcans create too much light and don’t look as attractive as the birdi.

Pin Spot• Accessories: Safety Chain,

G-Clamp, 15/13 amp plug.• Used For: Used for glitter

ball, colour can be changed with visors or with a coloured bulb. These lights would be used in museums and art gallery's as you can’t direct the light.

• Explanation: I would choose a Pin Spot over a parcan to light a disco ball as disco balls do not need a large light that would be supplied by a parcan. A smaller more direct light would be better.
