1 .02 PurposeThis manual is an instruction on how to attach and use Guldmann lifting strap for Ferno Spineboards model F065EXL SCOOP on Guldmann Horizontal lifting support.

Conditions for useThe use of the Spineboard kit is subject to the following:

• The Spineboard kit is used by trained staff or persons who have been in-structed in the use of the product in question.

• The maximum nominal load, 230 kg (500 lbs) must not be exceeded.• The helper pays attention to the well-being of the user when using the

Spineboard kit.• The lifting strap may ONLY be used with Ferno spineboard F065EXL SCOOP

and Guldmann Horizontal lifting support.

1 .03 Important/Precautions• Read the instructions carefully before using the Spineboard kit.• Safe and correct use of the product is solely the responsibility of the helper.• Spineboard kit’s maximum load must never be exceeded.• Before the Spineboard kit is used, it must be examined according to point

2.02.• Possible repairs must only be made by the manufacturer.• Keep this instruction as a future reference. Include it with the product in the

event of transfer to new users. Additional copies are available upon request from Guldmann.

1 .04 UseIf there is any doubt about the selection or use of a lifting sling/ accessory, please contact your supplier.

Important!Plan the move. Never leave the user unattended in the Spineboard and Spineboard kit. Do not start the lift until it has been checked that the user cannot get trapped and that the Spineboard and Spineboard kit does not catch on the bed. Be careful with any tubes and wires that are attached to the user. Check that the hand control and hand control cable is free of hanger, patient and other objects before the hoist is activated up or down moved.

Guldmann shall not be liable for faults or accidents due to incorrect use of the Spineboard kit and the Spineboard, or for reasons of inadequate attention on the part of the carer or user. The Spineboard kit may not be used in combina-tion with other products than specified.

1 .05 Unpacking

Visual check of the Spineboard kitIf the Spineboard kit is thought to be damaged upon receipt, it must not be used before it is checked and approved by a qualified person or the Guldmann Service Team.

The sling kit contains two double straps with safety hooks attached. These are the upper lifting straps, attached to Guldmann Horizontal Lifting support.

The four spineboard straps are light and easy straps attached to the spineboards four corner lifting points by a cow hitch knot. All straps has been marked with a spineboard strap label.

Upper straps:Double straps are attached to the Horizontal lifting support in each end, by making two cow hitch knots on the cross bar, one on either side of the main beam. As per picture:

Check that carabiner is positioned at bottom of strap when hanging from horizontal lifter. If not, adjust to correct position by loosening up the cow hitch knot.

Lower straps:Spineboard straps (284750) are attached to the four lifting corners of the spineboard by a cow hitch knot. As per picture:

Connecting the straps and lifting the spineboard

The lower and upper straps are connected by the carabiner attached to the upper double straps when these are connected succesfully.

The spineboard is lifted accordingly to instructions for horizontal lifting support manual.

Attention should be paid to the functional level of the user and the work technique of the helper. The user should be lifted only to the extent that she/he is clear of the surface and then moved at this height.

2 .02 The owner’s daily maintenance dutyCheck the lifting sling/accessory for wear and damage before use according to the following checklist which is not intended to represent all potential inspection steps. Potential damage may vary. Judgment of inspector/site prevails.

Sling/accessory inspection checklistBefore using a Guldmann sling/accessory check the following:

Is sling/accessory clean?Follow facility specific infection control procedure.

Is the sling’s/accessory’s label present, legible and complete?Missing, illegible or incomplete label(s) could make identification of ap-propriate size, function, and or weight limit capacity of the sling/accessory impossible.

Is the fabric intact?• Look for broken or worn stitches• Look for knots in straps• Look for tears or fraying of straps• Look for snags or punctures or holes• Look for any particles in fabric or straps

Is the fabric intact?• Look for abnormal wear patterns, excessive wear, abrasive evidence• Look for cuts or frayed fabric• Look for unusual or significant discoloration• Look for snags, punctures, tears, holes• Look for frayed or insecure seams• Look for any acid / caustic / thermal burns• Look for changes in material consistency, e.g. increased stiffness• Look for any imbedded particles

Is the sling/accessory the original size and length without the use of knots, pins, tape or other methods to change the shape, shorten or lengthen them?

ConclusionIf the sling/accessory suffers from one or more of the above mentioned conditions then it must be taken out of service regardless of the weight of the person to be lifted.

2 .03 Disposal of sling/accessoryThe slings/accessory are disposed of by incineration. By proper incineration polyester will be degraded to carbon dioxide and water.

3 .00 Service and lifetime

3 .01 Safety/service inspectionsIn accordance with international standard EN/ISO 10535 “Hoist for the trans-fer of disabled persons – Requirements and test methods” an inspection must be performed every 6-month according to the following instructions, which is not intended to represent all potential inspection steps. Potential damage may vary. Judgment of inspector/site prevails.

Safe operating practices with sling/accessoryConsiderations for damaged or defective sling/accessory and taking them out of service:

Withdraw the sling/accessory from service if one or more of the following con-ditions are present:

• chemical or caustic burns• melting or charring of any part of the sling/accessory• snags, punctures, tears or cuts• broken or worn stitches• missing, illegible or incomplete sling/accessory tag• knots in any part of the sling/accessory• abrasion• other visible damage that causes doubt as to the strength of

the sling/accessory

Sling/accessory inspection is done for the protection of the user, the caregi-ver, and the overall hospital site safety. A sling/accessory inspection system has additional benefit. Systematic sling/accessory inspection will assist in the identification of damage trends, potentially leading to cost effective sugge-stions and results. The inspection process can also help to identify inventory duplicity in certain sling/accessory types and sizes.

Sling/accessory inspection systemDevelopment of a specific procedure and program for the inspection ofsling/accessory at your facility is your best safeguard. Consider employing a three part system of inspection. Sling/accessory that are removed from ser-vice and are not capable of repair should be disposed of so they are unfit for any future use and can not find a way back into active inventory.

1) InitialThis level of inspection is done at the time that the sling/accessory is received into your facility. The inspector should ensure that no damage has occurred during transit, and also verify that the sling/accessory work load limits match those contained in the manufacturer’s catalogue. If your facility documents the sling inspection process through written inspection records, the paper trail should begin at this stage.

2) FrequentThe frequent level of inspection should be done by the sling/accessory user before each use. The sling/accessory should be examined and removed from service if damage is detected. The sling/accessory user should also determine that the sling/accessory is proper for the user conditions, care task required and the required weight capacity.

3) PeriodicYour facility might want to consider implementing a program for a periodic level of inspection at regular intervals. The interval should be based upon the frequency of use, severity of the service cycle and information derived through the inspection process. Recommendations to prevent damage and enhance service life could be made by staff that perform the periodic inspec- tions. If written inspection records are maintained, they should always refe- rence the unique sling identification number, and be updated to record the condition of the sling. Not intended to represent all potential inspection stepsor all potential aspects of product management program. Judgment of inspec- tor/site prevails.

Sling/accessory inspection techniqueThe sling/accessory inspection procedure should be thorough, systema-tic and consistent; both visual and “hands on” inspection techniques are recommended. Certain forms of damage are far more discernable through hands-on inspection, than by visual inspection. For example, fabric stiffness, crushed webbing, as well as, thinning fabric can be identified through tactile inspection. Visual inspection alone may not reveal all forms of sling damage. Once signs of damage have been identified, do not downgrade the work load limit of the sling, with the intent of continuing to use it, but at limited capacity or frequency. This is sometimes done to get more service life out of a dama-ged sling/accessory. The operating rule and standard should be: intact = use; damage = do not use.

Consider the practice of documenting sling/accessory inspections through written inspection records. The documentation should include information such as: the name of manufacturer, the sling/accessory stock number, width and length, the unique sling/accessory identification number (important in differentiating similar slings/accessories), as well as the condition of the products. Other important information might also include the date it was re-ceived or put into use at your facility and any special features (if applicable). A beneficial outcome of an inspection program would be the realization of repetitive forms of damage and the analysis that would lead to specific recommendations.

WARRANTY – U .S .A . and countries outside the EU

A . Users guideBefore using the product, read the entire operation manual including warranty.

B . WARRANTYGuldmann warrants its equipment is free from material defects under normal use, and will perform substantially in accordance with the specifications set forth in documentation provided with the equipment.

This express warranty shall be in effect for one year from the date of original purchase and installation (the “Warranty Period”). If a valid claim is made during the Warranty Period for malfunction or equipment defect, Guldmann will repair or replace the equipment at no additional cost to you. Guldmann retains sole discretion as to whether the equipment will be repaired or replaced.

This warranty shall be null and void if the equipment is operated and main-tained in any manner inconsistent with its intended use or the instructions provided with the product. Further, in order for the warranty to remain in effect for the full Warranty Period, all service to the equipment must be provided by a Guldmann designated technician. Any parts or components repaired or replaced by a Guldmann designated technician will be guaranteed for the remainder of the Warranty Period.

The warranty does not cover any part of the equipment which has been sub-ject to damage or abuse by the user or others. The warranty does not cover any part of the equipment which has been altered or changed in any way by the user or others. Guldmann does not warrant that the lifting device functions will meet your requirements, be uninterrupted or error free.

The warranty set forth is in lieu of all other express and implied warranties, whether oral, written or implied, and the remedies set forth above are your sole and exclusive remedies. Only an authorized officer of Guldmann may make modifications to this warranty, or additional warranties binding on Guld-mann. Accordingly, additional statements such as advertising or presentati-ons, whether oral or written, do not constitute warranties by Guldmann.

Service or RepairContact Guldmann Repair for an authorization to return any defective item during the Warranty Period. You will be provided with a return authorization number and address for returning the item for warranty service or replace-ment. Do not return items to Guldmann under warranty without receiving a Return Authorization Number.

If mailing the item, pack it carefully in a sturdy carton to prevent damage. Include your Return Authorization Number, a brief description of the problem and your return address and phone number. Guldmann does not assume the risk of loss or damage while in transit, so it is recommended you insure the package.

1 .02 ZweckDieses Handbuch enthält Anweisungen zum Anbringen und Verwenden der Guldmann-Schlaufen für Ferno Spineboards Modell F065EXL SCOOP und Guldmann Liegebügel.

VerwendungsvoraussetzungenDie Verwendung Spineboard Kit unterliegt den folgenden Voraussetzungen:

• Das Spineboard Kit muss von ausgebildetem Personal bzw. von Personen angewendet werden, die zuvor in den Gebrauch des Hebebands eingewiesen worden sind.

• Das Band wird so eingestellt, dass es das zu hebende Bein oder Arm umschließt.

• Die maximale Nominallast von 230 kg darf nicht überschritten werden.• Der Helfer achtet bei der Verwendung des Spineboard Kits auf das Wohl-

befinden des Benutzers.• Die Hebeschlaufen dürfen NUR in Verbindung mit dem Ferno Spineboard

F065EXL SCOOP und Guldmann Liegebügel.

1 .03 Wichtige Sicherheitsmaßnahmen• Lesen Sie sich die Anweisungen aufmerksam durch, bevor Sie das

Spineboard Kit verwenden.• Für die sichere und korrekte Verwendung des Produkts ist ausschließlich der

Helfer verantwortlich..• Das Spineboard Kit darf nur zum Heben einer Person verwendet werden.• Bevor das Band verwendet wird, muss er gemäß den Anweisungen in 2.02

geprüft werden.• Ggf. anfallende Reparaturarbeiten dürfen nur vom Hersteller ausgeführt

werden.• Bewahren Sie dieses Handbuch als zukünftige Referenz auf. Übergeben Sie

das Handbuch mit dem Produkt an neue Benutzer. Weitere Exemplare sind auf Anfrage von Guldmann erhältlich.

Wichtig!Planen Sie sorgfältig alle Schritte des Hebevorgangs. Lassen Sie den Benut-zer niemals unbeaufsichtigt im Spineboard und Spineboard-Kit. Starten Sie den Hebevorgang erst dann, wenn sichergestellt ist, dass der Benutzer nicht eingeklemmt werden kann und das Spineboard und das Spineboard-Kit sich nicht am Bett verfängt.. Achten Sie auf Schläuche und Kabel, mit denen der Benutzer und/oder die Ausstattung verbunden ist. Bevor Sie den Deckenlifter heben oder senken, stellen Sie sicher, dass die Handbedienung und das Kabel für die Handbedienung sich nicht mit dem Bügel, dem Patienten oder mit anderen Objekten überschneiden.

Guldmann haftet nicht für Fehler oder Unfälle, die auf eine falsche Ver-wendung des Spineboard-Kits und des Spineboards zurückzuführen sind, oder aus Gründen der unzureichenden Aufmerksamkeit des Pflegers oder des Benutzers. Das Spineboard-Kit kann nicht mit anderen Produkten in Kombination verwendet werden, als den angegebenen.

1 .05 Auspacken

Optische Kontrolle des Spineboard-KitsWenn das Spineboard-Kit bei der Lieferung beschädigt zu sein scheint, darf es erst nach Prüfung und Freigabe durch eine qualifizierte Person oder durch das Guldmann-Serviceteam verwendet werden.

Das Hebeschlaufen-Kit enthält zwei Doppelschlaufen mit anhän-genden Sicherheitshaken. Das sind die oberen Hebeschlaufen, die am Guldmann Liegebügel befestigt werden.

Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Karabinerhaken am Ende der Schlaufe ange-bracht ist, wenn sie am Liegebügel hängen. Ist dies nicht der Fall, stellen Sie die richtige Position ein, indem Sie den Ankerstich-Knoten lockern.

Verbinden der Schlaufen und Anheben des Spineboards

Die unteren und oberen Schlaufen werden mit Hilfe des Karabinerhakens, der sich an den oberen Doppelschlaufen befindet, verbunden, wenn diese erfolgreich miteinander verknüpft sind.

Das Spineboard wird, entsprechend der Bedienungsanleitung für Liegebügel, angehoben.

Hierbei ist auf das Funktionsniveau des Benutzers und die Arbeitstechnik des Helfer zu achten. Der Benutzer sollte nur so weit angehoben werden, dass er gerade frei beweglich von der Oberfläche ist und dann in dieser Höhe bewegt werden kann.

2 .02 Die täglichen Wartungsaufgaben des BesitzersÜberprüfen Sie das Hebeband vor jeder Verwendung auf Verschleiß-erscheinungen und Beschädigungen gemäß den folgenden Anweisungen. Diese stellen keine vollständige Auflistung aller möglicherweise anfallenden Wartungsschritte dar. Die potenziellen Schäden können variieren. Das Urteil des Prüfers/der Prüfstelle hat Vorrang.

Checkliste für die InspektionVor Gebrauch eines Hebebands von Guldmann sollten Sie folgendes überprüfen:

Ist das Hebeband sauber?Befolgen Sie die spezifischen Anweisungen zur Infektionskontrolle Ihrer Anlage.

Ist das Etikett des Hebebands vorhanden, lesbar und vollständig?Durch ein fehlendes, unlesbares oder unvollständiges Etikett ist die Über-prüfung der passenden Größe, der Funktionsfähigkeit sowie der Gewichts-beschränkung des Hebebands ggf. nicht möglich.

Sind die Hebegurte und Nähte intakt?• Suchen Sie nach beschädigten oder abgenutzten Nähten• Überprüfen Sie die Hebegurte auf Knoten• Überprüfen Sie die Hebegurte auf Risse und ausgefranste Stellen• Suchen Sie nach jeder Art von Rissen und Löchern• Untersuchen Sie Stoff und Gurte auf Partikel

Ist der Stoff intakt?• Untersuchen Sie den Stoff auf ungewöhnliche bzw. übermäßige

Hat das Hebeband ohne Knoten, Stifte und Bänder bzw. ohne die Anwendung anderer formverändernder Maßnahmen die Originalgröße und -länge?

ErgebnisSollte einer oder mehrere der oben aufgeführten Mängel vorliegen, so muss das Hebeband unverzüglich außer Betrieb genommen werden. Dabei ist das Gewicht der zu hebenden Person unerheblich.

2 .03 Entsorgung des HebebandsDie Entsorgung des Hebebands erfolgt durch Verbrennung. Durch die spezielle Verbrennungsprozedur wird Polyester in die Komponenten Kohlendioxid und Wasser gespalten.

3 .00 Wartung und Lebensdauer

3 .01 Sicherheitsinspektionen/WartungenGemäß der internationalen Norm EN/ISO 10535 „Lifter zum Transport von behinderten Menschen“ muss alle 6 Monate eine Inspektion erfolgen.

Das für das Hebeband verwendete Inspektionsverfahren muss sorgfältig, systematisch und regelmäßig durchgeführt werden. Es wird empfohlen, sow-ohl taktile als auch visuelle Inspektionstechniken anzuwenden.

Bestimmte Schäden lassen sich durch eine taktile Inspektion weit besser erkennen als durch eine reine Sichtprüfung. Zum Beispiel: Materialsteifigkeit, defekte Hebegurte und Abnutzung des Hebeband. Diese Mängel werden durch physischen Kontakt mit dem Hebeband erkannt. Eine Sichtprüfung allein bringt vermutlich nicht alle Arten von Schäden zutage.

Greifen Sie bei der Inspektion auf die schriftliche Dokumentation zur Wartung des Hebebands zurück. Diese Dokumentation sollte folgende Informationen enthalten: den Namen des Herstellers, die Bestandsnummer, die Breite und Länge, die eindeutige Identifikationsnummer (notwendig zur Unterscheidung gleichartiger Umlagerungstücher) sowie den Zustand des Hebebands. Wei-tere wichtige Informationen können das Eingangsdatum bzw. das Datum, an dem das Hebeband in Ihrer Einrichtung in Betrieb genommen wurde, sowie besondere Merkmale sein.

Achten Sie besonders auf beschädigte oder defekte Hebebänder und neh-men Sie sie außer Betrieb, wenn mindestens einer der folgenden Mängel vorliegt:

• Durch Chemikalien verursachte Flecken oder Zeichen von Abreibung • Geschmolzene oder verbrannte Stellen • Kratzer, Löcher, Risse oder Schnitte • Beschädigte oder abgenutzte Nähte • Fehlendes, unleserliches oder falsches Etikett • Knoten in einem Teil des Hebebänder • Verschleißerscheinungen • Andere sichtbare Schäden, die die Stabilität des Hebebands

beeinträchtigen könnten

Die Inspektionen des Hebebands werden zum Schutz der Patienten und des Pflegepersonals durchgeführt und sind Teil der allgemeinen Sicherheitsmaß-nahmen der gesamten Pflegeeinrichtung. Ein spezielles Inspektionssystem für Hebebänder bietet zusätzliche Vorzüge. Systematische Inspektionen för-dern die Erkennung entstehender Schäden und können so erhebliche Koste-neinsparungen bewirken. Des Weiteren kann der Inspektionsprozess dazu beitragen, dass die Notwendigkeit zur Lagerung einer Vielzahl von Hebebän-dern der gleichen Größe und des gleichen Typs entfällt.

HINWEIS: Inspektionen sollten von einer entsprechend ausgebildeten Person durchgeführt werden, die mit den Eigenschaften des Hebebands sowie des-sen Anwendung und Wartung vertraut ist.
