The Exciting Alternative for Soft-Tissue Regeneration This course will familiarise you with the science and research behind Mucograft and Mucograft Seal. Through a combination of evidence based lectures and hands- on exercises, you will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the use of Mucograft for the management of gingival recession defects and for gaining keratinised tissue around teeth; and with Mucograft Seal for ridge preservation following extractions. Practitioners will have the opportunity to “develop their skills” in the company of Harvard trained periodontist, Dr. Jonathan Leichter. Mucograft is a 3-D collagen matrix that favors early vascularisation, soft tissue integration and optimal wound healing. Mucograft has been proven to be an effective alternative to autogenous soft tissue grafting for root coverage procedures and for the gain of keratinised tissue. Mucograft Seal, another alternative to autogenous grafts and used in combination with Bio-Oss Collagen is ideal for ridge preservation. Geistlich, the world leader in collagen based hard and soft tissue regeneration would like to give you the opportunity to use its novel range of products that have recently been introduced Australia in this hands-on course. Presenter: Prof. Carlo Maiorana (Italy)

The use of biomaterials in implantology is nowadays a very common procedure, since the concept of prosthetically guided implantology has been introduced in the daily practice. Peri-implant bony defects, vertical and horizontal bone ridge augmentation can be performed with bone substitutes in association with autogenous chips and membranes, without forgetting that an accurate soft tissue management has to be carried out in order to guarantee a final good aesthetic result. Clinical cases of the treatment of the different defects will be shown in the light of the current literature trends followed by a hands-on part where participants have the possibility to practice the presented treatment concepts on pig’s mandibles.

Technical application recommendations

Geistlich Mucograft® Seal is an alternative to autogenous soft tissue grafts. Technical guidelines have been developed for the use of Geistlich Mucograft® Seal based on over fi ve years clinical experience with Geistlich Mucograft® and the consensus reached at the meeting of the Geistlich Mucograft® Seal Advisory Committee (2013). When using Geistlich Mucograft® Seal, special attention should be paid:

Geistlich Mucograft® Seal has to be used with an alveolar fi lling material(e.g. Geistlich Bio-Oss® Collagen).

Prior to applying Geistlich Mucograft® Seal, the adjoining soft tissue margins should be de-epithelialised. This allows soft-tissue cells to migrate from the soft-tissue border into the matrix. Geistlich Mucograft® Seal should be adapted to the defect size and applied in the dry state.

Orientation of Geistlich Mucograft® Seal: The compact structure of the matrix should face towards the oral cavity and the spongy framework towards the extraction socket. The spongy structure of Geistlich Mucograft® Seal is marked with grooves.

Fixation of Geistlich Mucograft® Seal Geistlich Mucograft® Seal should be sutured with non-resorbable suture material and not glued. The good adaptation of the product to the tissue margins can be achieved with single-interrupted, double interrupted or cross suture, depending on the defect.

The fi nest possible suture material should be selected that can be conveniently usedby the surgeon. For single-interrupted sutures 5.0 or 6.0 sutures are recommended for cross sutures a 5.0 suture size is suitable.

When suturing Geistlich Mucograft® Seal, assure a tension-free close adaptation of the device edges to the de-epithelialised marginal soft-tissue border of the extraction socket.

For further application information, please also observe the technical guidelines. More details about our distribution partners:www.geistlich-pharma.com/mycontact
