GAZETTE
Issue No. 11 Date: 23.11.2017
(2017-2018)
Dear Families,
It has been a fascinating week at TCS! There were science quizzes, International Days, Sports Days,
Inter-Taleb Islamic Competition and an amazing year 11 Talent Day, which they named Talentless?
However, they proved our students are anything but talentless, with so many skills and performances on
show, and great food from all over the world to enjoy.
We also had another visitor from a Canadian university, Memorial in Novia Scotia, and all 11, 12 and 13
learned more about Canada, and applying to universities there, as well as Memorial itself. We will have
more visitors, and also meetings for all ages in the coming months, concerning university applications.
Year 12 and 13 will be and have been applying already, while year 9 and 11 will be making choices that
affect their options for future education.
TCS is moving towards exam week, and I am sure all students are getting ready with revision and
practice tests. Our teachers are preparing exams, and ICT practical exams have already started for some
students. Remember to check the schedule and sort out home time during the exams.
In a few weeks time, we will all be having a welcome break, well deserved by all the students and staff
alike. Some tough weeks before that though, with exams, but it will all be worth it!
Mr Tim Sloman Principal, TCS

YEAR 8 INTERNATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION Year 8 celebrated international day on 14 November 2017, Tuesday. It was wonderful to see all the students in different dresses. It seems to be a miniature replica of the world. Almost 12 countries are accommodated in one hall. Students sat in country wise groups, each group representing their own country. Some dressed up in traditional attire as well they brought their country foods and shared with their friends. We enjoyed a lot of great food. Being a year head of Year8 I am grateful to all the authorities and teachers and supporting staff for the cooperation needed to make it successful.

YEAR 8 and 9 SCIENCE QUIZ COMPETITION
On 15th Nov,’17 the quiz started at exactly 11:20am after break (5th lesson) and it ended the 6th lesson at
exactly 1pm. The students were all placed in different groups, ranging from A-D and each group had 2
different years’ group 8 and 9.
Formal introduction and rules were given by the teacher in charge of year 8 Mr. Leo and the teacher in
charge of year 9 Ms. Kareem, while the questions were read out by Nour and Misha (year 13 students).
They both did an excellent job in structuring and maintaining the seriousness of the programme as well
as the question presentation which was done properly and to the clarity of the students.
The participants were all arranged in different tables and given different group names, ranging from
PARTICLES to the A-TEAM. The students where all excited and they responded to every question to the
best of their knowledge.
The competition had 3 rounds; PICK A NUMBER, BUZZER ROUND AND GENERAL SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE
CALLED THE {GK}. The students score was written boldly on a board so as to ensure transparency in
every possible way as well as calculations for the final score.
The event ended with medals given to the winner of the competition; the A-TEAM which comprised of
students from 8A&9A, all in one team while TEAM PARTICLE 9B&8B won the silver (second position).
Conclusively, big thanks to the Head of the department of Science Ms. Sutapa, Misha and Nour (year 13
students) for all their support and their persistent effort towards achieving the best in the Science
departments.
Year 8 and 9 students proved their academic excellence which is worth appreciating.Based on the
opinion of the students they had great time participating and observing the competition.

“Talents Day”
Year 11students organized “Talents Day” on 16th November 2017. This
event was aimed to exhibit their talents and bring out the young stars of TCS. It
was a successful event where, along with the Principal, Assistant Principal and
Academic Coordinator, teachers and students of Years 12 and 13 attended and
witnessed some amazing talents.
This spectacular event consisted of a heated debate session; an astonishing
performance session; mouthwatering and remarkable advertorial cuisine and to cap
it off, the award ceremony, where the best talents were awarded from each
segment. The organizers also had a surprise competition where they gave awards to
the best cultural dress worn by students and teachers. It was a tough decision
though as everyone looked stunning.
