JOHN ANTONETTICo-Founder, Colleagues on Call

John Antonetti is former Director of K–12 Curriculum in the Sheridan School District in Arkansas. He served as supervisor of gifted programs in the 18 districts of the Northwest Arkansas Education Service Cooperative and has had the great fortune to teach at all grade levels, kindergarten through high school. Antonetti is author of the book, Writing as a Measure and Model of Thinking and co-author with Dr. Jim Garver of Focus on Learning: A Process for Personal and Collaborative Reflection.

M. RENÉ ISLASDirector, Learning Forward Center for Results

M. Rene Islas is the director of the Learning Forward Center for Results, an international professional association. Rene is a recognized expert in education policy, working in the public and privates sectors. His government experience includes service as the Chief of Staff to the Assistant Secretary of Education. He managed the overall operations, policy development, and administration programs within the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education that is responsible for the majority of the programs in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. Rene played a pivotal role in the creation of the Teacher Incentive Fund and the School Improvement Grant programs that became priorities across the Bush and Obama administrations. He advised and supported the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.

STEVE LEINWANDPrincipal Research Analyst, AIR

Steve Leinwand is a passionate math educator and leader who has over 30 years of leadership positions in mathematics education. These positions include 22 years as Mathematics Consultant with the Connecticut Department of Education, past president of NCSM, and a member of the NCTMBoard of Directors. Leinwand currently serves as mathematics expert on a wide range of AIR projects that evaluate programs, develop assessments and provide technical assistance. In addition, Leinwand has provided school and district-level support and technical assistance for the General Electric Foundation’s Ensuring Futures in Education project and the Microsoft Math Partership Partnership.

SANDY BARTLESenior Academic Officer, Carnegie Learning

Sandy Bartle, Senior Academic Officer at Carnegie Learning, ensures that the best of academic research on teaching and learning theory is directly applied to the needs of teachers. Bartle joined Carnegie Learning in August, 2000 after spending 14 years as a high school mathematics teacher, department chair, and coach. Sandy began her career at Carnegie Learning as a Manager of School Partnerships, where she used her background in mathematics education and curriculum to inform and educate teachers on the benefits of using the Carnegie Learning materials in their classroom.
