It was a great time on a great golf course for a greatcause.

Gateway Community Action Partnership held itsinaugural Gateway Golf Classic on May 14 at historicStockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club's Bay Course with theproceeds going to Gateway's core, mission-driven programsthat focus on self-sufficiency. Everyone enjoyed the golf ona links course that once hosted the PGA Championshipalong with the food and gifts.

"This event will enable us to provide resources tounfunded and under-funded programs that are important toour mission to provide services that improve the quality oflife and promote self-sufficiency," said Albert B. Kelly,Gateway's President and CEO. "We are grateful to oursponsors and everyone who supported this event in someway. I also want to thank our two co-chairmen - JackTarditi and Angelo Alberto - and our golf committee forworking so hard to make this event a success. We weredetermined to stage a first-class event, and based on the

Head Start children and staff in Bridgeton, Hamilton and Atlantic City planted rosebushes to celebrated the 50th anniversary of Head Start.

Gateway Community Action Partnership's Head Start program joined Head Startprograms nationwide in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the program on May 18 byplanting rose bushes.The significance of Gateway's Head Start program planting rose bushes is that former

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Head Start Act on May 18, 1965 in the RoseGarden at the White House.Gateway Head Start children and staff planted rose bushes at the River's Edge

Community Campus in Bridgeton and at the John O. Wilson Hamilton 1 Head Start Centerin Hamilton and at the Mayor Usry Center in Atlantic City.

Gateway Hamilton 1 Head Start Celebrates Diversity With Multicultural Event

Hamilton 1 Head Start staff, students, families and neighborhood celebrated cultureand community at the 2nd multicultural parade and End of The year Celebration on May15.

The event celebrated the diversity within Hamilton 1 Head Start in recognition andappreciation to many cultures that make up the student body . Center staff, 85 childrenand their families waved flags from their native countries, wore traditional clothing,played instruments, sang songs, danced in the street and shouted"Head Start." The whole neighborhood came outside to celebrate with us. Twentycountries were represented with dignity and merit.

Following the parade was a successful End of The Year celebration at the center'splayground. Parents - especially fathers - assisted with cooking and preparingmulticultural dishes, planting flowers with the children, playing the keyboard, dancingand singing multicultural songs, playing games, face painting, arts and crafts and manyother activities.

Gateway's Family Success Centers Filled With Activities This Spring

Gateway Community Action Partnership's three Family Success Centers - GreaterBridgeton FSC, Holly City FSC and Salem FSC - do great work in supporting andstrengthening families in our communities. The three Gateway FSCs held successfulevents this spring that demonstrated each center's ability to engage partners to createopportunities that help children and families.

The Greater Bridgeton Family Success Center held a "Community Mix and Mingle:Developing Strong Relationships" event at the end of April that enabled families to learnabout services, agencies and organizations in the area while having good family fun andfood. Numerous community organizations were on hand to provide information. The NewJersey Department of Children and Families, which funds the state's Family SuccessCenters, took part. Charmaine Thomas, assistant commissioner of the NJ DCF whooversees Family and Community Partnerships, attended.

The Holly City Family Success Center held its Fifth Annual Spring Fling event inWaltman Park in Millville in April. The family fun event included information from variouscommunity organizations.

The Salem Family Success Center held its annual Community Health and WellnessBaby Shower. The Salem FSC event had refreshments, games, and presentations from

local agencies whose main focus is family and health. Agencies participating were WIC,Robin's Nest, Salem Health Department and Perinatal Cooperative from Pennsauken.Each of the mothers went home with gift baskets and literature.

Gateway Community Action Partnership held its Annual Community Day and OutreachFestival on Gateway's River's Edge Community Campus in May. It was a day for fun, food

and valuable information on health and social service issues and resources from areaservice providers and health vendors.

the General Mills Foundation, teaches the importance of healthy eating and getting 30minutes of exercise each day.

Gateway A Big Winner At National Head Start Conference In Washington

Playground equipment won in a raffle by Head Start Quality Control Manager Frances Wolf at National Head StartConference in Washington.

Head Start Program Quality Control Manager Frances Wolf was a big winner for GatewayCommunity Action Partnership during the National Head Start Conference in Washington,D.C., on April 1.

Several vendors at the conference were raffling off items they had at the site. Wolfsubmitted a raffle ticket to Playworld Systems and won a Play World First Play playgroundequipment piece valued at $2,900. The piece was installed at our Early Head Start center inBridgeton.

Hammonton Head Start held a Daddy/Daughter Dance. Fathers or father figures wereinvited to share laughs, finger nail painting, snacks, and dancing. In addition, each fathergave a small heart-felt speech about their little girl. Pictures were taken and music was

played all while enjoying the theme of the popular movie "Frozen."

Hightstown Head Start held its end of the year gathering in May. Parents volunteered inhelping out in various activities which included face painting, blowing bubbles and arts

and crafts.

The Holly City Family Success Center, in conjunction with In His Presence Worship Center, willhold a job and health fair on Saturday, June 20 at In His Presence Family Support Center, 221 E.Broad St., Millville. The event's theme is "Regardless of Background Check, come dressed to impressto your new boss" and is free and open to the public and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Included in an opportunity-filled day are on-site training on resume writing, workplace readinessskills, interview preparedness and using technology in job searching. These sessions will take placefrom 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Center staff will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. to answer questions and provideadditional information on workplace readiness. Participants are urged to bring their own technologydevices with them, as in smart phone, iPad, tablet, notebook computer, etc. For additional eventinformation, call 856-765-9877. ... Internet Essentials, a program offered by Comcast, gives income-eligible families access to the Internet for $9.95 a month with no activation fee, equipment fees or priceincreases.
