Snowboard PassageCNISSF Alpine Competitions
Revised: December 2011
A gate has been correctly passed when both feet of the competitor, fixed in both bindings, and the entire board cross the gate line outside the turning pole.
The gate line is the line that
starts at the tall pole, passes through the
stubbie (turning pole) horizontally
Correct Passage
Correct Passage
across the slope to the trail edge, but the correct passage must be outside
the turning pole
Legal vs Illegal clear
Stubby is run over and board goes to the wrong side
Entire Board “clears” stubby w/ both feet attached
You make the call
Stubby goes to outside: Clear or not a clear????
Stubby goes to inside
Here is the tough one
You need to see which way the stubby goes, and determine if:
Did the entire board “clears” the stubby and the board stays in the gate line?
Action PhotoYou need to see which way the stubby goes to determine if it is:
Fault or No-fault
Action PhotoYou need to see which way the stubby goes to determine if it is:
Fault or No-fault—Look really, really close!!!
Here is the tip of the stubby
Racer can hit the panelRacer may go through the panel but,
the entire board must make the “gate line”.
Racer may fall through the panelIf the racer is falling, (out of control), it is
still a “clear” if the board passes the stubby in the “gate line” with both feet attached
Racer may fall through the panelREPEAT: If the racer is falling, (out of
control), it is still a clear if the board passes the stubby in the “gate line.”
In this case, you must judge if the entire board went around where the stubby enters
the snow………tough call !!!!!
