GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING-2015 (GATE-2015)

In December 2014, the University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resources Development announced that the scholarship for GATE-qualified postgraduate students is increased by 55%, from 8000 (US$130) per month to 12400 (US$190) per month.

GATE 2015- Examination Pattern Pattern of Question Papers: Total 65 Questions (ALL Objective Type) Total Marks: 100 each question has ONLY one correct answer. GATE 2015 Examination will be ONLINE for All Branches. GATE-2015 would contain questions of four different types in engineering papers: 1. Multiple choice questions carrying 1 or 2 marks each. Common data questions, where two successive questions use the same set of input data. Linked answer questions, where the answer to the first question of the pair is required in order to answer its successor.2. Numerical answer questions, where the answer is a number, to be entered by the candidate using the mouse and a virtual keypad that will be provided on the screen.Note: Sectional cut-off(Technical / Non-Technical like Engineering mathematics & General Aptitude) are not applied in GATE exam.

In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying 15 marks in General Aptitude (GA) are compulsory.

NOTE: General Aptitude (GA-15 Marks) is common for all the engineering branch (Civil-CE, Computer Science and Engineering-CS, Information technology-IT, Mechanical-ME, EE, ECE, IN. Question of General Aptitude will remain same for branches held in same seating.

Engineering Mathematics will carry 15 % of the total marks, the General Aptitude section will carry 15 % of the total marks and the remaining 70 % of the total marks is technical in nature.

Engineering Mathematics Syllabus for Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering & Instrumentation Engineering is same and same question would be asked in the examination of gate 2015.

Engineering Mathematics Syllabus for Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering & Mechanical Engineering is same and same question would be asked in the examination of gate 2015.

Few topics of engineering mathematics are common for Computer Science & IT Engineering, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Civil, Instrumentation, Chemical and mechanical engineering.

Marking scheme: Negative marking of 1/3rd for one marks question and Negative marking of 2/3rd for two marks question.

Unattempted question: No Marks

Linked answer question pair: Each question carries 2 marks, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer to the first question only. There is no negative marking for wrong answer to the second question of the linked answer question pair.If the first question in the linked pair is wrongly answered or is un-attempted, then the answer to the second question in the pair will not be evaluated. There is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

Common DATA: Multiple choice type: Equal marks to all related questions.

General Aptitude (GA) Section: Same Question will be expected for Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering & Instrumentation engineering in the examination of gate 2015.

In all papers, GA questions are of multiple choice types, and carry a total of 15 marks. The GA section includes 5 questions carrying 1 mark each (sub-total 5 marks) and 5 questions carrying 2-marks each (sub-total 10 marks)

Question 1 to 25: One mark each ( Negative marking 1/3rd )

Question 26 to 55: Two mark each ( Negative marking 2/3rd )

Question 56 to 65: General Aptitude ( total 15 marks ) : ( Negative marking 1/3rd for One marks & 2/3rd for Two mark )

Question 56 to 60: One mark each Question 61 to 65 : Two mark each

NOTE : Calculator is allowed whereas charts, graph sheet or Tables are NOT allowed in the examination hall.

Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT). The online examination paper will contain some questions for which numerical answers must be keyed in by the candidate using the virtual keypad. Rest of the questions shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type.2. Biometric information (Photograph and Fingerprints) for randomly selected candidates may be captured before the start of the examination.3. GATE 2015 examinations will be held during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 31st January 2015 and 14th February 2015. Examination for some of the papers in GATE 2015 will be held in multiple sessions. Exact details regarding complete examination schedule will be notified at a later date.4. For GATE 2015 the entire process of filling up of application form, uploading of certificates/documents, etc., will be online and the candidates should not send any hard copy of their application form/documents, etc., to any of the IIT/IISc zonal GATE office.5. The payment of application fees would be online through different modes like net banking, debit/credit card, e-challan, etc.6. The admit cards for GATE 2015 would be available through the online process only. Candidates can download their admit card from GATE 2015 website. No hard copy of admit cards will be posted to the candidates.GATE 2015 score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the resultsGATE Score Card

After the declaration of the results, candidates can download their GATE 2015 Score Card for the paper (for which he/she has taken the examination). The score cards will be issued to : (a)All SC/ST/PwD candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying marks of SC/ST/PwD candidates in their papers, (b) All other candidates whose marks are greater than or equal to the qualifying mark of OBC(NCL) candidates in their respective papers. The GATE 2015 score cards can be downloaded between March 27, 2015 to May 29, 2015 and for that the candidate should access the zonal websites from where he/she has taken the GATE 2015 examination.

The GATE 2015 Committee has the authority to decide the qualifying mark/score for each GATE paper. In case any claim or dispute arises in respect of GATE 2015, it is hereby made absolutely clear that the Courts and Tribunals in Allahabad and Allahabad alone shall have the exclusive jurisdiction to entertain and settle any such dispute or claim.

Gate-2015 is held on Jan 31, Feb 1, 7 and 8, 2015 in multiple sessions in more than 190 cities and states across India. GATE exam results were declared recently on March 11, 2015. The exam results were expected to be out on March 12,2015, however, GATE results were announced a day in advance.According to reports, around 9, 28,553 aspirants took the exam this year as compared to the 10, 33,625 aspirants in 2014. The number of male candidates who registered for the exam was 6, 52,704 and out of these 5, 67,123 appeared for the exam.The number of female candidates who registered for GATE 2015 exam were 2, 75,699 and out of these, 2, 37,236 actually took the exam. Around 140 GATE 2015 aspirants were from other categories.However, in the year 2014, around 7, 21,780 aspirants who took the exam were male candidates, while, 3, 11,845 were recorded to be female aspirants.Now coming to the number of registered candidates in various disciplines. In mechanical engineering, the number registered candidates were 2, 12,943, while 1, 85,762 appeared for GATE 2015. According to reports, over 1, 40,000 students had registered for electrical engineering, while around 1, 25,853 appeared for the same.As many as 2,00,443 has registered for Electronics and Communication Engineering, while around 1,36,269 and 1,12,631 registered for Computer Science and Information Technology and Civil Engineering respectively.Given below is a table with the number of candidates who registered for some of the major disciplines of GATE 2015 in 2015 and 2014.

The All India Rank (AIR) 1 in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science, Instrumentation Engineering and Production and Industrial Engineering has been acquired by Ashok Bansal, Pradeep Seervi, Jaya Jha, Ravi Shankar Mishra, Swapnil Pandey and Amit Dixit respectively.Students can download GATE 2015 exam score cards between March 27, 2015 to May 29, 2015 from the official website. To download, candidates need to have access to the zonal websites from where they have appeared for GATE 2015 exam.
