Sell Sell Sell The T-Bones had a pair of contracts purchased today by Major League organizations. LHP Eric Stout was purchased by the Cincinnati Reds. The former Royal was joined by his AAA teammate from last season at Omaha in RHP Kevin Lenik who was purchased as well today by the Boston Red Sox. That makes three this season joining Randal Delgado who was signed by the New York Yankees last Friday.

Tice Tice Baby Dylan Tice hit .333 in 68 games with one home run and 16 RBIs while holding down the leadoff spot for KC last season until August 5th. The next day he became the 38th Kansas City player and the eighth that season to have his contract purchased when the New York Mets came calling. Tice was among the league leaders at the plate all season last year. The Perkasie, Pennsylvania native was ninth in the league in average, 4th with 55 runs scored, 5th in hits with 91 and 4th in on base percentage at .428 when he was sold. Tice walked 41 times and added 12 stolen bases to a T-Bones club that flourished all season with him at the top of the batting order. He was second on the club in stolen bases and was hit by a team-leading seven pitches last season. Tice came to Kansas City following an All-Star season where he hit .327 for the Rockland Boulders of the CAN-AM League in 2017. Tice was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 36th round of the 2015 MLB Draft out of West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He would spend parts of two seasons with the Cardinals organization, reaching high A Palm Beach in the Florida State League in 2016. In 40 games he hit .288 with a homer and 18 RBIs in 2016. Tice spent eight games at low A Peoria in the Midwest League, hitting a home run and driving in six runs in 35 at bats, and he spent another 20 games at short season A State College in the New York-Penn League with two long balls, 10 RBIs and a .281 batting average. Tice spent 41 games following the 2015 draft with the Cardinals Gulf Coast League club. He hit .280 with one home run and 22 RBIs in his rookie season.

Keeping it local Right-hander Robert Calvano hails from Kansas City. Infielder Shawn O’Malley lives in Overland Park. RHP Dustin Hurlbutt is from Coffeyville, Kansas, and IF Casey Gillaspie is a former Wichita State star.

Double vision The T-Bones have been rained out five times since Friday the 17th the opening night of the season. They have played four double headers after playing only four all of last season. The club was only washed away three times all season at home last year. The first did not come until August 15th against Fargo. The second came four days later on August 19th against Cleburne in a game that was not made up with the T-Bones only playing 99 games. The weather forced another rainout in Texas on June 7th the other double headers was a scheduled pair in Lincoln. This season the club was washed away on Saturday the 18th against Fargo and made up the next day the 19th. The back to back rain outs at home against Lincoln on the 20th and 21st and Friday night in Winnipeg. The back to back on Monday and Tuesday was the fourth time that the T-Bones have had back to back rainouts in a season. The last time was in 2015 when the T-Bones were washed away on back to back nights in Joplin on June 17th and 18th that season. In 2003 the last series was hampered by rain. On August 30th and 31st the T-Bones and the Sioux Falls Canaries had back to backs over Labor Day weekend eventually finishing the series with a single game on the 1st. In 2004 there was a suspended game followed by a rainout and the most famous of all was the 2008 Northern League Finals where Gary had a sink hole in left field with three days of rain to hold off the KC Championship celebration.

Familiar faces Catcher Christian Correa spent his third straight May in T-Bones camp. The T-Bones have eight returning players from last year with addition of IF Dylan Tice. RHP Tommy Collier, LHP Nick Lee, RHP Jackson Lowery, RHP Robert Calvano, LHP Carlos Diaz, OF Ryan Brett and IF Mason Davis.

T-Bones Land Victory Over Goldeyes

06/01/2009

The Kansas City T-Bones (8-7) capitalized on strong pitching and early offense to defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes (11-4), 6-2, tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

With 3,009 in attendance, Kansas City jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first against Ben Pfinsgraff (2-2), plating the first run on a solo shot from Damian Rolls (pictured). Following three straight singles, Craig Hurba drove in Greg Jacobs with a sacrifice fly to cap off the frame.

Cory Patton doubled off Chris Rhoads (2-0) in the second and later scored on a groundout by Cody Ehlers to pull Winnipeg within one. Following a fielder’s choice and a single in the bottom of the inning, Rolls doubled in the T-Bones third run of the contest to push the T-Bones lead back to two. After a wild pitch scored Aharon Eggleston, Jacobs plated Rolls with a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 advantage.

Rolls added an RBI single in the fourth to finish the scoring for Kansas City. Pfinsgraff left after four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on 12 hits in the loss. Juan Diaz hit an RBI single in the fifth to give Winnipeg their final tally of the game. Rhoads left after six and two-thirds innings, earning the victory after surrendering two runs on nine hits while striking out six. Payton Tweddale replaced the right-hander with two on in the seventh and struck out the only batter he faced to end the threat.

Blair Johnson entered in the eighth and loaded the bases after a quick out with a single, hit batter and walk. He worked out of the jam, inducing an infield fly and groundout to maintain Kansas City’s four-run lead.

Daniel Sattler threw a perfect ninth to finish the game. Rolls went three-for-four on the night with three RBI. He fell a triple shy of the cycle. Jacobs finished three-for-four with two doubles in his season debut.

Dylan Baker comes to KCK after one season with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization where he went 3-6 in 34 games all in relief with a 6.08 ERA over 37 innings and notched eight saves in 2018. Primarily a starter throughout his career, it was his first season to notch a save as a pitcher. Prior to his one season with the Dodgers system, he spent 2012 to 2017 with the Cleveland Indians organization. Baker was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft by the Cleveland Indians and made his debut in the rookie Arizona League that summer, going 0-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 24 innings, making eight starts in his eight games. He added 30 strike outs his first season. In 2013 at Lake County in the Midwest League, Baker went 7-6 in 27 games, making 25 starts over a 143.2 career-high innings. He would strike out 117 on the season at low A. Baker logged a team-best 143.2 innings, finishing with team-highs in victories (7) and strikeouts (117) and ranked among Midwest League leaders in starts (4th, 25), innings (4th, 143.2), strikeouts (4th, 117) and ERA (13th, 3.63). Baker also ranked fifth in ERA among all Cleveland minor leaguers that season and earned the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for June 19th – 25th that season.

The 2014 season began with promise for Baker at high A Carolina. He would work six innings of no-hit ball with four strike outs, but he would miss a majority of the season because of a broken right ankle, suffered after making his first start of the season. He would be activated from the DL on July 21 and slowly work his way back. Baker would go to the rookie level Arizona league for three games where he posted a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings, and then Baker headed back to high A in the Carolina League to close out the season. He would finish the year going at least five innings in his last four starts, including back-to-back quality starts where he held the opposition to four runs over 12 innings. In his final 19 innings of the season, Baker allowed just five earned runs. He would go 3-3 overall with the Mudcats with a 4.05 ERA in nine starts in 46.2 innings. Baker once again had to fight off the injury bug in 2015. He was limited to just one start, coming April 9 at Potomac

where he worked five hitless innings while walking one and fanning nine. Baker was diagnosed with an elbow strain after the start and was placed on the DL, eventually undergoing right elbow reconstruction on May 20. Baker then underwent a clean-up procedure (scar tissue) on January 8 that delayed the start of his 2016 season. He would be rewarded despite the setbacks and was added to the 40-man roster on November 20 of 2015 by Cleveland.

The 2016 was a “wash” for Baker owing to the 2015 surgeries. He was limited in his return to the mound as he experienced discomfort at each step along his rehabilitation efforts and was forced to undergo and additional arthroscopic procedure on August 16 to address posterior elbow and forearm soreness. Baker returned in 2017 and started the season on the DL because of the previous two seasons of setbacks. He went a combined 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA in 17 games with two starts with AA Akron in the Eastern League and Rookie level Arizona. Baker struck out 16 while giving up just one walk. He pitched in 13 games at AA, going 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA, and he struck out 10 against one walk and pitched in another four games (two starts) for Rookie-level Arizona Indians while in rehab with a back injury from July 23 to August 14 . The Indians recalled Baker on September 1 and shut him down for the rest of the season, placing him on the 60-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain and ending his season.

Baker, a native of Alaska, graduated from Douglas High School, in Juneau, Alaska, before attending Tacoma Community College. He then transferred to Western Nevada College where he became the highest draft selection for a player out of Western Nevada in 2012. He resides in Juneau, Alaska.
