Nursery
Our little chefs of nursery enjoyed
making a c…c…Cookie sandwich with
Nutella chocolate and Digestive
biscuits which they thoroughly
relished. As a part of our circle time
activity each child brought in their
favourite toy. It was amazing to hear
them speak about why they love their
cars, dolls and teddy bears …and how
they carry it along with them where
ever they go. Kiddos to all our
Nursery babies.
Pre-Primary
Le Tour De France Knowing about other countries is as
important as knowing about one’s
own. The pre-schoolers were taken
on an imaginary trip to Paris and
shown the important places. New
and tongue twisting words did not
deter them and they were all eager
and enthusiastic to learn some words
and songs in French. The week ended
with a delicious French food…
Learning about other elements of
Nature Air and Earth, the children of
T2 had a lot of fun through activities
and experiments.
We live on planet Earth and if we
need resources for the future we
must follow the 3 R’s- Reuse, Reduce
and Recycle. This was emphasized
and made the children think of ways
in which one can save our planet. The
little hands made an easy newspaper
bag which they took home.
As a part of an air experiment our
little scientists of T1 enjoyed blowing
air bubbles thus creating big and tiny
ones .They also enjoyed digging the
soil, planting the seeds and watering
their little pots daily. It was great to
see a huge smile on their face as they
took their plants home.
Primary
Vachan ( Pairing activity) Students explored the possibilities to
convert Singular and Plural words.
They worked in pair in understanding
the variation in the sentences while
changing. The sentences were shared
in the class for better understanding.
With this activity students could work
with clarity while changing.

Punctuations come
knocking at the door!
Grade 2 students on Tuesday took
part in an activity on Punctuations.
Children were grouped and given few
cut outs of sentences and
punctuation marks. They had to
figure where these punctuation
marks would go in the sentence and
come out and pin them on the board.
The aim was to get them to indirectly
figure out the role of punctuations in
deciding whether a sentence is a
statement, question, an order or has
an Interjection. They enjoyed the
session.
The sentences were all related to
their recent topic of plants in life
processes so while placing the
sentences on the board we all revised
the science topic as well. The
students will now be using the board
to place sentences constructed by
them and placing them under the
right category, throughout the term.
International week
Grade 1: Germany
Hallo, alle miteinander ! The most awaited day was finally
here. Weeks of hard work, absorbing
new information about a new
country- Germany, having the
classroom adorn some beautiful
piece of work by our Grade 1 class
children and engaging themselves in
creative activities paid off when we
had our class full with parents to
render their support and cheer our
children on the most awaited day-
The finale of International Fiesta.
Children exhibited great enthusiasm
for the International Fiesta. It kick
started with a salutation song
followed by a popular fable, some
interesting quiz fired at the parents
and lastly an action song which got
the parents involved imitating their
children.
Grade 2: Sri Lanka
Getting creative with
International week! On 12th July, second graders had a
special visitor Mr.Sachin Bhandari a
travel blog writer who willingly
shared with our kids his travel
endeavors of Sri Lanka through his
photographs and presentation. The
aim was to give an opportunity to the
kids to interact and understand Sri
Lanka firsthand through our visitor’s
perspective. We had a lively
atmosphere in class throughout.
There was a beautiful Sri Lankan
dance performance by girls also boys
performed a small skit about ‘the
relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth’.

The skit even explained the reason
why the festival of ‘Esala Perahera’ is
celebrated in Sri Lanka. Making the
amazing takeaway of ‘Sri Lankan
masks’ added the fun element to our
learning. We also made tourist cards
in class. The aim was to get them to
think of their favorite thing to do in
Sri Lanka and allow them to recollect
all the interesting places of Sri Lanka.
So each child made cards mentioning
which tourist place or activity would
they not miss when in Sri Lanka
elaborating on why that place is
worth visiting. So let’s not waste any
time and pack our bags for Sri Lanka
as our grade 2 tour guides are ready!
Grade 3: Singapore
The children of grade 3 had fantastic
time learning about the country of
Singapore. They did a lot of research
with respect to the famous places of
the country and decorated their scrap
book with their creative work. The
girls performed a traditional
Singaporean dance which was taught
by the Ballet team. The art and craft
teacher made them do glass painting
about the national symbols of
Sinngapore.
The children also had the privilege to
read about the folktale of Singapore.
The food items of Singapore were
very limited and so there was not
much scope to venture in to the food
items. As part of their understanding
the children drew concept maps,
which proved their skills in organizing
the details. They also researched and
created PowerPoint presentations on
Singapore.
Grade 4: Spain
Students of grade 4 conducted an
inquiry on Spain, exploring about the
national symbols, national animal,
bird, economy, government, tourist
places, food, sports, geographical
characteristics, festivals and royal
family.
They created their own Spanish
masks and Spanish plate wall design.
Students wrote their understanding
in their scrap book and came up with
innovative charts.
They researched in-depth on La
Tomatina and came up with
informative writing on the famous
festival of Spain.
The boys of the class trained
themselves for singing a Spanish song
while the girls prepared ‘The
Flamenco dance.’
Overall the enthusiasm and
dedication projected by our young
explorers was tremendous!

Students of Grade 5 represented the
ancient European country Greece
during the International week. They
researched extensively and presented
a PPT prepared by them about Greek
people, their culture, , Ancient
Greece, tourist attractions,
mythology, their art (pottery)etc.
They also performed a Role-Play on
the story of Medusa and Athena. In
pairs, they made short story books
based on Greek Mythology.
Art It has been a lot of fun doing Art and
Craft during international week
celebration.Students enjoyed
everything from decorating the
classrooms to imbibing the specific
country’s art work in their takeaways.
Grade 1-German hat
Grade 2-Sri Lanka masks
Grade 3-Glass painting
Grade 4-Eye mask, Paper dish design
Grade 5-Pot painting,Design on
Pot,Parthenon temple model
Secondary
Mon Ecole It is common knowledge that by
doing presentations, students learn
how to speak confidently in front a
group. They learn how to prepare
material for public presentation, and
this practice together with feedback
improves their speaking skills. As part
of the ongoing topic of “Ma routine
Scolaire”, the French students of
Grade 8 were given the task of
making a presentation about the
school. It was boys vs. girls and each
member of the team had to
contribute to the presentation.
They were also encouraged to
evaluate each other’s presentation
since this is one way to get students
to listen and learn from the
presentations of others. While one
group was making their presentation,
the others had to listen carefully, as
well as observe the slides, so that
they could identify mistakes in
grammar and pronunciation. The
class ended on a light note as both
teams found almost the same kind of
errors in their presentations.
Nets and 3D shapes The students of grade 7A created
some known and few unknown 3D
shapes from nets provided by the
teacher. The activity was designed for
the students to understand that all
3D shapes arise out of 2D shapes. The
students had fun guessing the names
of the unknown figures and learning
the correct names for all the shapes
made. The activity generated
curiosity in them to know more about
the three dimensional shapes and
their nets.
Big History (A desire to go beyond specialized
and self-contained fields of study to
grasp history as a whole)
GICL students of grade 8 have
meaningfully participated to
understand how to approach
readings in Big History.
The foundation of the students
approach to reading was they being
engaged in a three-part reading
process called as the ‘Three Close
Reads’. This process included reading
for gist, reading for facts, and reading
for comprehension and extension.

Students presented each reading
process in groups to their classmates.
Post their presentation; they
questioned both the text and each
other. This contemplative dialogue
changed the entire classroom
environment into a thought
provoking discussion. They were able
to understand the difference
between the three reading processes
and their advantages.
By engaging in this process students
were able to complete readings more
quickly and with more understanding
than with one read. Big History
reading methods have encouraged
the students to use a careful and a
deliberate process when approaching
readings.
Colors in Chemistry
The students of grade 8 had hands on
experience with the technique of
chromatography which is used to
separate mixtures. With felt pens of
different colors as samples the
students used chromatography to
identify the components of that
color. The students witnessed first-
hand how components of a color can
be separated, even when those
individual components are not visible
in the color. The activity helped
students to understand the process
of chromatography and also its
applications.
It also led them to think of different
substances that could be separated
using chromatography.
The tree of phonology ‘Sandhi’ is the process whereby the
form of a word changes as a result of
its position in an utterance. ‘Sandhi’
occurs particularly prominently in the
phonology of Indian languages and
forms an essential part of the Hindi
grammar learning process. The topic
is not easy to assimilate but the
students of Grade 8 quickly grasped
the essence through a fun-filled
activity. They built the different types
of ‘Sandhi words’ using cutout leaves
made from coloured paper and
created the big ‘Sandhi tree’.
Environmental
Management students on a
field trip The Environmental Management
course was introduced for IGCSE last
year at GICL with the aim of
promoting awareness , addressing
‘burning issues’ and sensitizing
students on the urgent need for
sustainability.
As the complex dynamics of
environmental processes can be
understood clearly through ‘hands-
on’ experiences, the IGCSE
Environmental Management students
of Grade 10 went on a field trip to
Dahanu and observed the following:
• A dam and how it generates
hydroelectric power and its other
uses like – irrigation, recreation,
fishing, etc.
• Animal husbandry - An Emu farm
• Vermicomposting
• Aquaculture
• Hydroponics
• Grafting technique and mulching
• Rain water harvesting systems
• Solar powered lamps
• Cultured pearl farming
• A biogas plant and its working
• The soil profile
• Experiment on soil erosion
• A Warli house and their subsistence
living , etc.
Overall, it was an enriching
experience.

Product Life Cycle Business Studies students of Grade 10
had an assessment on the topic
‘Product life cycle’ by way of
individual student presentation. The
students were informed about the
rubrics for the same in advance. They
were really enthusiastic about the
presenting it as they did a lot of
research about the product which
they chose. Students made
presentations on product life cycle of
products like Pepsi, Hyundai Santro, X
Box, Play station 4, Apple II,
Cadbury’s Dairy milk etc. They came
up with interesting facts and
information about the stages of the
PLC with respect to the sales
revenue, pricing and the promotion
strategies.
Investiture Ceremony
2016-2017 The Investiture is a solemn ceremony
in which office bearers of the student
council are bestowed with duties and
responsibilities. Garodia
International Centre for Learning
witnessed the elaborate function on
15th of July. The parents and
guardians were invited to see their
wards take oath and be invested in
their offices. Dr. John Jenckes,our
Head of School, was the Investing
Officer and the ceremony was
compered by Mishti Raveshia , a
student of Grade 9.
The objective of having a Student
Council is to build the confidence of
the students, to develop leadership
qualities and inculcate a sense of
responsibility among them.
While the Head Boy, Head Girl and
the Sports Captain are selected after
an interview, the captains of the four
houses were chosen by ballot by their
respective house members.
Ananya Bhat and Shivank Ganesh
were elected Head Girl and Head
Boy of the school.
Risa Ganatra was elected as the
Sports Captain.
The new House Captains for the
four Houses are as follows:
Arthur House – Aditya Shah
Lancelot House – Krish Doshi
Percival House – Varun Parekh
Tristram House – Ayush Parekh
The students marched up to the stage
to take the oath and receive their
badges. This was followed by the
entire council taking oath to
discharge their duties with sincerity
and fulfill everyone's expectations.
The children sitting in the audience
watched with awe as they witnessed
their seniors taking oath and
promising to abide by the rules and
regulations of the school.
