GARDENING DOING, BEING, BECOMING AND BELONGING 1 The following slides portray how the simple tomato can bring meaning to an individual, it can take place anywhere in the world by young and old. By taking part (doing) in this occupation of being a horticulturist, a person is able to become a provider, which will give them a sense of belonging, whether that be to their peers in the community or being able to enjoy their fruits of their labour with the family at dinner time.

Tomatina, by doing this every year a communities get a feeling of belonging, they become stronger and belong to special unique group

This simple tomato needs many skills to get it on to a plate or in a salad, an individual’s labour or a team effort. This fruit can give someone a task or job to do giving them a sense of being helping them in becoming a provider or team member and belonging

to a “family”.
