October, the second month of autumn, when nature shows it greatest splendor, and of course
Thanksgiving this month is on the 14th. Once again, I believe we have much to be thankful for, at
least that’s what most of you tell me. I also heard rumour of an Octoberfest Celebration; stay
tuned for details.
Brandon is busy preparing our home for winter, so be prepared, he may ask for access to your
suite for water shut-offs and such. It is a huge task to winterize Garden View. If your heat
doesn’t seem to respond, please report that to Sheri.
That’s all for now, as always, stay happy and healthy.
Regards,
Adrian

Flu vs The Cold
The flu and the common cold can often seem similar and are hard to distinguish one from the other. Both are self-limiting infections caused by viruses (the influenza virus causing the flu and rhinoviruses causing the majority of colds). Both lead to symptoms of a runny and stuffy nose, sneezing, a sore throat, aches and pains, coughing, and fatigue. The flu can have additional symptoms of a high fever lasting a few days, a headache, and more severe body aches. Both the flu and the common cold can only be treated symptomatically with over-the-counter products. The best way to prevent getting sick is by washing your hands thoroughly, especially after sneezing or coughing, and to get the annual influenza vaccine; talk to your pharmacist.

Emergency Procedures: Loss of Power
In the event we lose power in the lodge, we have plans in place to ensure continuation of services. There are several things you can do to stay safe:
1) Remain calm. 2) Ensure you have a flashlight in your suite and check on a regular basis to ensure the batteries
are still working. 3) If you are on oxygen, ensure you have adequate supplies and use your portable tanks until
power is restored. 4) Ensure your windows are closed and secured to help retain heat. 5) Fire doors close. Contact staff to assist you to open them.
Hot food and beverages may still be provided as we have gas stoves. For any other questions, please see your Manager.
