SAFETY TIP Car Seat Safety Wellington County OPP wants to remind motorists in Ontario that the driver of a motor vehicle is responsible for ensuring that all passengers under the age of 16 are using a seat belt or appropriate child car seat. A child must be properly secured in a car seat or booster seat. It is imperative that the car seat manual be read and instructions followed for proper installation. What the law requires: Rear-facing car seats for children weighing less than 20 pounds (9kg) Forward-facing car seats for children weighing between 20 and 40 pounds (9-19 kg) Booster seats for children who are: between 40 and 80 pounds (18 to 36 kg) or under 4 feet 9 inches (145 cm) or under eight years of age Penalty for breaking this law: A driver who does not properly secure children and youth can receive a fine and demerit points on their driver’s licence. Open to County of Wellington residents only. • Commercial, institutional, industrial, and agricultural wastes will not be accepted. Can’t make it? Check out our NEW HHW Mobile Depot! It will start at the Aberfoyle Waste Facility on July 2, stay for a month, and then will travel from one waste facility to the next.
