Year in ReviewThe Gamma Nu Zeta of Lambda Chi
achieved many accomplishments in the
2009-2010 school year including initiating
a chapter-record 21 associate members(15
during the fall semester and 6 during the
spring semester).
Furthermore, we are proud to declare
that Jennings Carpenter through his hard
work and diligence was named Outstanding
Greek Leader of the Year by dedicating him-
self to helping not only the fraternity but the
university and greater community as well.
We were also able to raise a collective
$4,200 for our charity, Camp Kesem, solely
from our annual Powder-Puff tournament and
springtime Block Party.

enjoyed spending time withmy brothers, and it was
great to see all of the sorori-ties come out to support agood cause. I think this willreally help bolster theGreek image around cam-pus.

year, we raised a whopping $3,000
for our charity, Camp Kesem North
Carolina.
As we move into the
2010/2011 academic year, my last
as a Tar Heel, Im looking forward
to a year filled with more informal
brotherhood events. Starting with
camping trips, bowling nights,Football tailgates, I want to encour-
age both active and alumni broth-
ers to spend time together and get
to know one another better. I am
also planning a ski trip in West
Virginia for early January that I
hope will become a new tradition
in our chapter.
Successful chapters build from
the ground up. Our chapter has
very committed members, and I am
proud to help strengthen ties within
the brotherhood so that we can
continue to grow as a chapter.

to capitalize on every opportu-

will not only improve the com-

is associating

during the fall
semester of my
first year.
The 2009/2010 academic year
was a year of tremendous growth in
Gamma Nu Zeta. After two ex-
tremely successful recruitment peri-
ods in the fall and spring, we saw our
fraternity grow by 21 members, tak-ing active membership to 55 overall.
While ties within pledge classes have
always been strong, it has been my
goal for the past semester and for the
future to break down pledge class
barriers and create a more unified
brotherhood.
Starting with our annual Block
Party charity fundraiser in the spring,
the chapter saw brothers from almost
every active pledge class working
together to make it a success. This

tion. There is always room
for growth, and with the help
of fellow brothers and
alumni there is nothing any
brother cannot accomplish
both within the fraternity andbeyond.
I wish the chapter would
increase its community ser-
vice projects. We have much
to offer the community and it
is our duty to help others. I
would also like the chapter
to realize that the ritual can
and should be experienced as
often as possible. The idea
that the ritual only initiates
us into the brotherhood is
incorrect. It reminds us to
spend our time on Earth
wisely and to recognize our
true potential.

school and life, and howto use school to figure outwhat comes after gradua-
tion. I hope to be a resource tohelp the Gamma Nu brothers intheir academic pursuits.
Matt and I are excited toserve as team advisers toGamma Nu Chapter. I willserve as a UNC faculty aca-demic adviser, whereas Matt

unique thing about Lambda
Chi is the ability to find help
when help is needed. Broth-
ers can find help in the broth-

The chapter is strong, but
it can always be better. My
recommendation for the
chapter officers is to make
the positions their own by
constantly reevaluating the
way things are done and find-

they should seek to increase

It is currently a fun and
exciting time to be a member of
Lambda Chi at UNC. The
Gamma Nu Zeta of Lambda Chi
Alpha is taking some crucial
steps in trying to improve the
functioning of the fraternity and
that includes reconnecting with
all the alumni that have passed
through the fraternity and un-
doubtedly left their mark in
some way. It is a little disap-
pointing that our chapter does
not have stronger, more devel-
oped ties with alumni as some
fraternities on campus or inother chapters of Lambda Chi
Alpha. In an effort to build a
better alumni network we would
like participation from everyone
who is able to attend Homecom-

We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha, and its tradi-
tions, principles, and ideals. The crescent is our
symbolpure, high, and ever growing; and
the cross is our guidedenoting service, sacri-fice, and even suffering and humiliation before
the world, bravely endured if need be, in follow-
ing that ideal.
May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha and
passion for its welfare. May we have hope for
the future of Lambda Chi Alpha and strength
to fight for its teachings. May we have pure
hearts, that we may approach the ideal of per-fect brotherly love.
