Gamesalad Evaluation. Gamesalad is a software were you can build you own game for Iphone or PC without knowing about programming. It is a great program to use for beginners of programming a game, this is because it already has the code programmed into the software, so for example, you can drag certain actors/attributes in that are already programmed to do something for you, so if you want a jump attribute in your game, you can just make it so when you press the ʻspaceʼ bar the object you are telling to jump will jump at a certain height and speed. A con for gamesalad is that if you may change one little thing it could automatically change something else without noticing so you have to be careful and check all the little bits that you do for example, changing the position of a block so it spawns at this point may keep the old block there and still spawn even though you told it not to. Also just because you arenʼt properly coding doesnʼt relieve you from knowing the math and the logic of real programmers when they have to go through when developing apps. I understood the basic functions and calculations needed to make a game in gamesalad, but i think it was a bit complicated at some points as itʼs not always clear, for example I wanted a double jump actor once you touch the ground after double jumping twice, I followed a few tutorials and done it exactly but it wouldnʼt work so I had to turn of the majority of the attributes to see which attribute or actor was causing the problem, after finding it i turned it off and had to create a new one but programmed completely different to do the same thing but linked in with the double jump. The pros of gamesalad for me was the basic things, like making scoreboards, a point system, making the enemies spawn on platforms and all the basic things, this was good because it showed me quickly and simply what to do. Gamesalad is very satisfying once you have a working game product, I also enjoyed creating the game, even though there was a few hard bits it was good because it gave you a tough challenge on trying to figure out what to do to correct the game, after a whilst of using gamesalad i learnt some of the codes without guidance and looking at guides for help.
