Memorial Tournament
MISSION
• In 2015 Arts for the Aging, Inc. (AFTA) celebrates its 27th year and its 25th annual tennis tournament.
• Founded in 1988 by renowned sculptor Lolo Sarnoff, AFTA brings the arts to older adults, especially those who are frail and vulnerable.
• Workshops are designed to improve mental and physical health, longevity, and overall quality of life.
• AFTA is the D.C. region’s leading arts service organization dedicated to combating isolation and spreading joy to seniors through frequent participation in the arts.
• The program’s multi-disciplinary approach is unique nation-wide.
PROGRAMS
• AFTAwill this year engage over 700 older adults who are mostly frail and vulerable in all manner of weekly and bi-weekly arts programs.
• Workshops take place for groups in adult day centers, community centers, and nursing homes that focus on safety net services for older adults.
• AFTA trains and supports a faculty of professional teaching artists who engage seniors in painting, poetry, live instrumental music, dance, storytelling and more.
• Children take part in intergenerational workshops, learning from the knowledge of their elders, and giving seniors an emotional boost—bridging the ages and creating stronger communities.
SUPPORT
• Gifts to AFTA help to sustain high-quality arts programs that improve the lives of seniors who need it most.
• AFTA is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit, offering most services free of charge; donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
