HOUSTON DYNAMO vs CHICAGO FIRE BBVA COMPASS STADIUM, Houston, Texas

April 13, 2013 (WEEK 7, MLS Game #59) 4 p.m. CT (UniMas; CSN-Hou) The Houston Dynamo return home looking to make history when they play host to the Chicago Fire at BBVA Compass Stadium in a rematch of their postseason encounter of a year ago. The Dynamo are looking to set the league’s home undefeated record of 35 games across all competitions, though they are coming off a 2-0 loss at the Portland Timbers last weekend. The Fire finally broke out of their early-season struggles with a first win of the season last weekend, a 3-1 defeat of the New York Red Bulls at home. REFEREE: Edvin Jurisevic. The teams met a year ago in the Knockout Round of the MLS Cup Playoffs, the Dynamo taking a 2-1 victory at Toyota Park on their way to an eventual appearance in MLS Cup 2012.

In league play, the Dynamo last won in Bridgeview in 2009. The Fire won at Robertson Stadium in 2006 and 2007 in their first two trips ever to Houston – and have not won there since.

Coaches record: Dominic Kinnear v CHI: P20 W7 L6 D7 … Frank Klopas vs. HOU: P4 W1 L0 D3 HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo lost for the second time in as many road starts, dropping a 2-0 decision to the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday evening. The Dynamo are in third place in the Eastern Conference with 9 points from 5 matches. LAST MATCH

After a scoreless first half which saw two Timbers starters -- midfielder Diego Valeri and defender David Horst – come off the field injured, Portland took the lead 10 minutes after the break. Ryan Johnson took a perfectly placed cross from Diego Chara and nudged it by Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall with a lunging left-footed attempt as the goalkeeper vainly tried to keep it out.

Johnson doubled his and the Timbers account in the 73rd minute. He broke free down the left flank, perfectly timing his run behind the Dynamo backline to run onto a through ball from Darlington Nagbe, then buried his angled shot from the left side of the box inside the far post.

Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear made two changes to the team that took a 2-0 win against the San Jose Earthquakes at BBVA Compass Stadium. Andrew Driver came in on the flank for Boniek Garcia, and Cam Weaver started up top in place of Will Bruin.

HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-4-2): Tally Hall - Kofi Sarkodie, Jermaine Taylor, Bobby Boswell, Corey Ashe - Andrew Driver, Adam Moffat (Warren Creavalle 64), Ricardo Clark (Omar Cummings 81), Brad Davis - Giles Barnes, Cam Weaver (Brian Ching 71).

TEAM NEWS The Dynamo are 0-2-0 away from home this season, but are 3-0-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium. After the visit

by Chicago, six of their next nine games are on the road. “We wanted to come here and get a good result and obviously that didn’t happen. I thought the first half we put

ourselves in a good position, limited their chances, had some good moments ourselves, and in the second half, we were a little bit off that,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

Will Bruin did not make the trip to Portland after suffering a hamstring injury late in the win against San Jose, an injury originally suffered a few weeks ago, but one for which he passed a pregame fitness test before the Vancouver match.

“I don’t like missing out and I’m trying to get back as quick as I can,” Bruin said. “It’s early in the season and I don’t want it to be nagging all year. I’d rather miss one [game] as opposed to one month. We’re just taking it day by day. There’s risk there with playing through it and maybe doing something worse. If it was a playoff game I would’ve played.”

Boniek Garcia was also held out of the Portland match after suffering an ankle injury in training the day before the match.

"He just was feeling it,” Kinnear said. “You want to make sure when guys step out on the field they’re feeling fine. He trained Friday but wasn’t feeling so good so that’s the reason he didn’t play.”

With a victory or a draw, the Dynamo will set the record for the longest home undefeated streak over all competitions. The Dynamo have matched the MLS record of 34 games set by Real Salt Lake.

“Back at home, we have a good run going there so we want to continue that. We haven’t been there in a while,” said midfielder Adam Moffat. “Anytime you lose a game you kind of want to get there and make amends. So for us it’s next Sunday, to get back to business and preparing for that and hopefully get another three points.”

CHICAGO FIRE The Chicago Fire recorded their first victory of the 2013 season, getting two late goals for a 3-1 win against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday afternoon at Toyota Park. The Fire are in a tie for eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 4 points from 5 matches. LAST MATCH

The Red Bulls took the lead in the 17th minute. A half-cleared corner kick was back into the box by Brandon Barklage, and center back Jámison Olave scored his second goal of the season with an twisting overhead volley.

The Fire missed a tremendous opportunity to pull level eight minutes later when Jeff Larentowicz's shot hit Jonny Steele's hand in the penalty area and a spot kick was given, but Chris Rolfe put the attempt wide.

But Daniel Paladini brought the Fire back just before halftime. Hunter Jumper swung in a cross from out on the left flank, and Paladini lept in front of Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles and headed the ball into the net.

The Fire then snatched all the points with two late goal from substitute Maicon Santos. In the 83rd minute, he took a through pass from Paladini, beat Olave on a cutback move to the inside and poked a shot past Robles.

Santos sealed the win with his second goal in the 89th minute, after Larentowicz headed a Paladini free kick across the box, finding Santos open on the back post for a tap-in.

Fire head coach Frank Klopas made four changes to the team that suffered a 4-1 loss to Chivas USA at Toyota Park. Sean Johnson came in between the posts for Paolo Tornaghi, Hunter Jumper started at left back for Gonzalo Segares, and Logan Pause and Joel Lindpere came into the side in place of Patrick Nyarko and Alex.

CHICAGO FIRE (4-2-3-1): Sean Johnson - Wells Thompson, Austin Berry, Jalil Anibaba, Hunter Jumper - Jeff Larentowicz, Logan Pause - Daniel Paladini, Chris Rolfe (Corben Bone 87), Joel Lindpere (Michael Videira 93+) - Sherjill MacDonald (Maicon Santos 63).

TEAM NEWS The Fire put an end to the worst start in club history with the late win against New York, the four games to start

the season without a victory the most for the club. “I think we finally showed what we really are,” midfielder Jeff Larentowicz said. “We've lost games that were

kind of out of character, and tonight was definitely what we're about. We were making mistakes in games that we just don't really make. We're a better team than we showed with those little things. I think tonight, we repaired those little things.”

With a goal and two assists in the Fire’s 3-1 win against New York on Sunday, Daniel Paladini increased his career point production by 50 percent. In 48 league appearances entering the contest, he had three goals and three assists.

“Danny has been a guy with quality. When we have called on him to step in, he has done it. He's a guy that is pushing because he needs to be on the field and play,” said Fire head coach Frank Klopas. “You want guys like that whether they are on or off the field, when they get a chance to contribute they do. That's the depth we are trying to create in the team. He had a very good game.”

Paladini started in a central midfield role as Joel Lindpere moved a wide left position, his first start after missing two matches due to international duty with Estonia.

“We're still trying to find what the right combo is,” head coach Frank Klopas said. “I think Danny's more of that guy who can defend well, he's got abilities, he's a very fit guy who can defend and mark better. … So far from the time that I've seen, with Joel, he's been more comfortable, not wide to the line, a little more tucked in. He's not going to stand on the line. We've used him in training there and I think he's looked good.”

MLS GAME INFORMATION

Fire striker Maicon Santos scored two goals in a game for the fifth time in his MLS career, scoring the two late goals to give the Fire the club’s first win of the season.

“I think he always has been considered with our starters. The first game Maicon started over MacDonald. ... We take the games and the work that goes in all week, the preparation and the form the guys are in,” said Klopas. “I had no issue putting in Maicon in the first game. We are trying to build a competitive team and everybody knows that the goals would have meant nothing if we didn't win.”

Making his first start of the season, second-year fullback Hunter Jumper recorded his first career assist on the Fire’s opening goal. Jumper started in place of Gonzalo Segares, who had suffered a quadriceps strain.

The Fire were also without Patrick Nyarko, who missed the New York match with a hamstring strain. The Fire could have a key addition to the back line as center back Arne Friedrich has returned to training and

could be available for selection vs. Houston. “I would like to see how it goes during the week, but I feel better and better,” Friedrich said. “I can promise that

as soon as I'm a little fit I'll be there for the team. … The real fitness you get through the games. Even if I play on Sunday, it takes me maybe four, five, six games for me to be 100 percent.”

against the Fire. Houston and Chicago drew in their last two meetings in Houston, including a 0‐0 tie last July. The Dynamo

seized a 4‐3 win over Chicago at Robertson Stadium in 2010, with Brian Ching recording a hat trick.

DYNAMO NOTES Dynamo fall to Timbers in Portland: Ryan Johnson scored two goals in the second half to lead the Timbers to a 2‐0 win over

the Dynamo on Saturday night at JELD‐WEN Field. Johnson’s second‐half brace helped Portland to its first win of the season

and first victory for new head coach Caleb Porter. The Dynamo had a chance to open the scoring in the 33rd minute as

Andrew Driver bent a cross in front of the six‐yard box and Cam Weaver’s volley cleared the cross bar for a near miss.

Johnson delivered the Timbers a 1‐0 lead in the 55th minute, receiving an excellent cross from Diego Chara and driving a low

shot past Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall, who nearly kept the shot out with a foot save. The Jamaican forward found the net

again in the 73rd minute. Darlington Nagbe received the ball at the center circle and quickly played a through ball for

Johnson, who drove into the box before slotting a shot home from 12 yards for his third goal of the year.

DYNAMO IN HISTORIC HOME TERRITORY

The Dynamo have equaled Real Salt Lake for the longest home unbeaten streak in all competitions in MLS history: The

Dynamo are unbeaten in 34 consecutive home games in all competitions, including: 28 regular season games, a 2011 playoff win

over Philadelphia (29 overall), two Champions League games in 2012 (31), playoff victories over Sporting KC and D.C. United in

2012 (33) and a Champions League win over Santos Laguna on March 5 (34). With a win or a tie against Chicago on Sunday, the

Dynamo will set a new MLS record for consecutive home games without defeat, surpassing Real Salt Lake’s mark set from 2009‐11.

The Dynamo also have the second‐longest regular season home unbeaten streak in MLS history: The Dynamo extended their

regular season home unbeaten streak to 28 games with a 2‐0 win over San Jose on March 30. It is the second‐longest regular season

home streak in league history, one shy of Real Salt Lake’s regular season record of 29 games. If Houston wins its next two home

games (Sunday vs. Chicago and April 28 vs. Colorado), it will break Real Salt Lake’s regular season record of 29 games. The

Dynamo have not lost a home game in over 21 months, with their last home defeat on June 18, 2011, a 2‐0 loss to Columbus.

The chart below details the longest regular season home unbeaten streaks in MLS history:

DYNAMO NOTES Dynamo become third team in U.S. pro sports history to play 20 games in new stadium without defeat: With a 2‐0 win

over San Jose on March 30, the Dynamo became one of only three teams in the history of the major North American

professional sports leagues to go undefeated in their first 20 regular season games at a home venue. The first team to reach

20 home games in a new home without defeat was the Washington Capitols of the Basketball Association of America

(predecessor of todayʹs NBA), who won their first 27 games at Uline Arena in 1946‐1947. The team was coached by Red

Auerbach (his first season in the league). The second team to go undefeated in their first 20 regular season games at a home

venue was the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, who won their first 22 games at Staples Center (2001‐2002). *Note courtesy

Several Dynamo players reach milestones in Portland: Last Saturday’s game in Portland was midfielder Brad Davis’ 250th

career regular season start in his 12‐year MLS career. Davis is the 37th player in Major League Soccer history to reach 250

regular season starts. If Davis starts 25 or more games for the next two seasons (in addition to his four starts already this

year), he will reach the exclusive 300‐start club by the end of the 2014 season. Only six players in league history have started

300 regular season games (Kevin Hartman, Steve Ralston, Joe Cannon, Nick Rimando, Pablo Mastroeni, Chris Henerson).

Defender Bobby Boswell made his 150th regular season appearance with the Dynamo. He is the fourth player to reach 150

regular season games for Houston, joining Davis, Corey Ashe and Brian Ching. Moreover, Boswell has started the most

regular season games by an MLS defender since 2005, (227 starts). Boswellʹs rookie season was 2005, so the center back is

among the most durable defenders since he entered the league. Boswell set a career‐high with 33 regular season games in

2012, surpassing his previous career‐high for games in a season of 30, set in 2006. The 30‐year‐old has appeared in at least 23

games and made 22 starts or more each season of his career.

Forward Omar Cummings entered as a substitute in the second half on Saturday for the 150th regular season appearance of

his career. Cummings has also been a durable professional, appearing in 26 games or more in every season after his rookie

campaign in 2007.

Finally, midfielder Adam Moffat made his 75th career regular season start. The Scotland native finished one shy of career

highs in both starts (23) and games (24) last season.

Dynamo begin 2013 with best start in club history: Before Saturday’s 2‐0 loss at Portland, the Dynamo had their best four‐

game start to a season in club history. The 3‐1‐0 started was better than the previous best four‐game starts to a campaign, in

2012 and 2010 (2‐1‐1 in both seasons). Other Houston starts since 2006: 1‐1‐2 (2011); 0‐2‐2 (2009); 0‐1‐3 (2008); 1‐2‐1 (2007)

and 2‐2 (2006). In addition, the Dynamo have won their first three home games in a season for the first time in club history.

Bruin, Davis reach milestones in win over San Jose: Forward Will Bruin scored his 22nd goal in all competitions with the

Dynamo on March 30. Bruin is now tied with Stuart Holden for fourth on the franchise list. Brad Davis provided the assist

on Giles Barnes’ goal as the club’s all‐time assist leader recorded his 75th regular season assist with the Dynamo.

Three Dynamo players appear in 2014 World Cup qualifiers: The final round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in

Brazil continued on March 22 and 26 with two games within the ten‐game CONCACAF Hexagonal round, and three

Dynamo players featured for their respective national teams. Midfielder Brad Davis came off the bench in the 71st minute

of the 0‐0 draw at Mexico on March 26. Defender Jermaine Taylor played 90 minutes in both of Jamaicaʹs World Cup

qualifiers. The Reggae Boyz tied Panama, 1‐1 at home on March 22, before losing at Costa Rica 2‐0 on March 26. Midfielder

Boniek Garcia also added two more caps to his resume, playing 90 minutes in both of Hondurasʹ Hexagonal matches. Los

Catrachos came from behind to tie Mexico, 2‐2, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras on March 22, before falling on the road to

Panama 2‐0 on March 26. All three players returned to the starting lineup on March 30 vs. San Jose.

Better late than never: The Dynamo have scored 4 of 8 goals in the 2013 regular season after the 75th minute, with two late

goals in a 2‐0 win over D.C. United on March 2 and a pair of late tallies on March 17 in Dallas. The late goals continue a

trend for Houston, which set a franchise record with 17 goals in the final 15 minutes of games in 2012 after scoring 14 late

goals in 2011. The 17 late goals in a season were historic, with only the 2012 San Jose Earthquakes (22) and 2009 Real Salt

Lake (19) scoring more goals after the 75th minute since 2006 (more details on page 5). The Dynamo also scored a late goal

(Brad Davis, 89th minute) in a 1‐0 win over Santos Laguna on March 5.

Dynamo offseason: The entire starting lineup from the 2012 MLS Cup final could return for the Dynamo in 2013. Calen

Carr, who scored the opening goal in the final, is recovering from offseason surgery on his left knee. Outside of Carr, the

other ten starters from the 2012 MLS Cup final all started on March 2 vs. D.C. United. The chart below details the offseason

for the Dynamo, with notes on the incoming and outgoing players.

club had a total of 13 clean sheets in 30 regular season games. Hall finished tied for second in the league in shutouts, trailing

Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting Kansas City (15).

Dynamo best possession team in MLS in 2012: The Dynamo were the best overall possession team in Major League Soccer

in 2012, with 55.93% possession in the regular season. Houston won the possession battle in 27 of 34 regular season games.

In addition, the Dynamo’s 81.5% passing accuracy was second best in the league.

Davis reaches 20 for second straight season: Brad Davis has reached a combined 20 goals and assists each of the last two

years, with 8 goals (a career‐high) and 12 assists in 2012, after the midfielder reached 20 with 4 goals and 16 assists (another

career‐high) in 2011. Davis’ achievement each of the last two years is remarkable because no other player in Dynamo history

has ever recorded 20 combined goals and assists in a single regular season. Davis also has four of the best five combined

totals in team history. Here are the highest combined totals in club history:

PLAYER  TOTAL GOALS, ASSISTS COMBINATION YEAR

Brad Davis  20  8 goals, 12 assists  2012

Brad Davis, midfield maestro: Midfielder Brad Davis recorded 12 assists in 2012, marking the fourth consecutive season

the all‐star midfielder has tallied 12 or more assists. Davis had 16 assists in 2011 (career‐high) and 12 assists in 2010 and

2009. Davis finished with the fifth most assists in the league in 2012, trailing Graham Zusi (15) of Sporting Kansas City.

Bruin matches goals mark for MLS second year professionals: Forward Will Bruin scored 12 regular season goals in 2012,

matching the all‐time MLS record for second‐year professionals. That mark was set by Jeff Cunningham with Columbus in

1999 and later matched by Rodrigo Faria of the New York MetroStars in 2002.

2012 Dynamo team awards: Brad Davis won his fourth consecutive team Most Valuable Player award in 2012. Boniek

Garcia was named Newcomer of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year after joining the Dynamo last June. Bobby

Boswell earned Defender of the Year honors for the third time in five seasons in Houston. Will Bruin earned the Dynamo’s

Budweiser Golden Boot award after recording 12 goals in the regular season and adding four more in the playoffs. Bruin

also won the Dynamo’s Humanitarian of the Year award for his work on the Bald is Beautiful campaign.

Boniek García makes impact in debut season: Midfielder Boniek García ignited Houstonʹs run to the playoffs in 2012 with

4 goals and 6 assists in 17 regular season games. The Dynamo went 9‐4‐6 with a +10 goal difference in the regular season

after Garciaʹs debut. The 28‐year‐old Designated Player signed with Houston in June 2012 after playing for Honduran

powerhouse C.D. Olimpia since 2003. The midfielder debuted for the Honduras national team in 2005 and has 81

appearances for his country, including five appearances in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Dynamo scored third most late goals in MLS since 2006 last season: The Dynamo scored 17 goals in the final 15 minutes of

games in 2012. The 17 late goals in a season were historic, with only the 2012 San Jose Earthquakes (22) and 2009 Real Salt

Lake (19) scoring more goals after the 75th minute in a season since the Dynamo entered the league in 2006. 17 late goals is

also a franchise record, eclipsing the previous mark of 14, set in 2011. Houston scored a total of 48 regular season goals in

2012, with the goals in the final 15 minutes of matches accounting for a full 35% of its goals.

The Fire will again head to Houston for the second leg of the series on Saturday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m. CT (NBC Sports Network/La Ley 107.9) and will host the final leg of the series at Toyota Park on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 4:00 p.m. CT (UniMas/La Ley 107.9). The Fire met the Dynamo in the first match of the 2013 Carolina Challenge Cup preseason tournament. Goals from Sherjill MacDonald, Dilly Duka and Jeff Larentowicz were sandwiched between Dynamo goals by Adam Moffat and Cam Weaver as the Fire opened the tournament with a 3-2 victory on Feb. 16. QUICK KICKS at Houston Dynamo (3-2-0; 9 pts.) • The Fire hold a 4-6-5 all-time regular season record against the Dynamo, including a 2-3-2 record in matches played on the road. • The Fire have only played once at BBVA Compass Stadium, a 0-0 draw July 3, 2012. • Maicon Santos’ goal in the 83rd minute was the 700th MLS Regular Season goal for the Fire. His 89th minute strike marked the fourth multi-goal game of his MLS career.

A LOOK AT THE FIRE The Chicago Fire (1-3-1; 4 pts.) enter their 16th season of MLS play after posting a 17-11-6 record, earning 57 points, tied with the 2000 season for the highest point total in club history. Continuity is key for head coach Frank Klopas this season as the team returns 19 players from the 2012 squad that qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2009, including veterans Logan Pause, Patrick Nyarko and Gonzalo Segares. Offseason acquisitions Jeff Larentowicz, Joel Lindpere, Maicon Santos and Dilly Duka bolster the roster for the Men in Red. Sean Johnson returns for his fourth campaign with the Fire. Reigning MLS Rookie of the Year Austin Berry is set to pair with German World Cup veteran Arne Friedrich in central defense. The strike tandem of Sherjill MacDonald and 2012 Fire MVP and Golden Boot winner Chris Rolfe will serve as the scoring force for the Fire in 2013. FIRE – HOUSTON DYNAMO CONNECTIONS Two Fire players are Texas products. Defender Hunter Jumper, who notched an assist in his first professional start April against the Red Bulls, and midfielder Corben Bone, who made his 2013 season debut Sunday when he entered the match in the 87th minute, are both Plano, Texas natives. Current Dynamo forward Calen Carr began his professional career as a member of the Fire. Drafted in the first round (10th overall) of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, Carr made 82 regular season appearances, scoring nine goals and adding three assists across five seasons. RECENT HISTORY This is the first of three meetings between the Fire and Dynamo this season. 16. The two squads met four times during the 2012 season. The Fire held the edge in the regular season series with a 1-0-2 record. Logan Pause’s deflected goal in the 27th minute earned the Men in Red a point in a rain-shortened match April 15 at Toyota Park. The Fire earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw in Houston July 3. In the final leg of the series, Patrick Nyarko’s goal in the 47th second combined with strikes from Daniel Paladini and Alex to lift the Fire to a 3-1 victory Sept. 2 at Toyota Park. In the Eastern Conference Knockout Match, Alex’s 83rd minute strike wasn’t enough to overcome a Will Bruin brace as the Dynamo knocked the Fire out of the playoffs on Oct. 31. CHICAGO FIRE DEFEAT NEW YORK RED BULLS 3-1 FOR FIRST VICTORY OF 2013 The Chicago Fire defeated Eastern Conference foes New York Red Bulls 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Toyota Park. The Red Bulls found an early, 17th minute goal from Jamison Olave but the Fire were propelled by a Daniel Paladini equalizer and Maicon Santos brace for their first victory of the 2013 season. The visitors opened scoring in the 17th minute when Juninho’s corner kick found Tim Cahill at the far post. The Australian headed the ball across the goal to Jamison Olave. With his back towards goal, the Colombian defender volleyed the into the side netting to put Red Bull ahead 1-0. The Fire looked to catch a break in the 24th minute when Jonny Steele was called for handball in the penalty box after Jeff Larentowicz’s long-range effort knocked the Northern Irishman’s hand. Rolfe lined up the ensuing penalty kick but pushed his effort went wide left of goal. The Fire found the equalizer minutes before halftime. Hunter Jumper pounced on a weak Red Bulls clearance on the left flank and swung a cross into the six-yard-box. Paladini shook his defender and got on the end of the cross, snapping his header down ahead of Red Bull ‘keeper Luis Robles for the 44th minute equalizer. In the 69th minute, second half substitute Thierry Henry carried the ball to the top of the arc and unleashed a left-footed blast from that rattled the post. Peguy Luyindula was unable to connect with the rebound and the Fire defense cleared the ball out to safety. The Fire found the game-winner in the 83rd minute. Paladini won the ball in the center circle and played Maicon Santos into the box on the left. The crafty Brazilian received the ball, cut it back losing his defender, and coolly side-footed under Robles into the goal. Santos completed his brace in the 89th minute. Paladini took the Fire free kick 40 yards from goal and found Larentowicz at the far post. The midfielder headed it across the face of goal to Santos, who tapped it for a final score of 3-1. CHICAGO FIRE DEFENDER AUSTIN BERRY CHOSEN AS THE NEXT FIRE BOBBLEHEAD The Chicago Fire announced Tuesday that Austin Berry has been chosen as the next Fire bobblehead. The Fire partnered with iconic jersey sponsor The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., to create a campaign that allowed fans to Quaker Up™ and vote for the Fire player they wanted to see immortalized into a bobblehead. The reigning MLS Rookie of the Year made a late surge in voting and emerged victorious, receiving 36 percent of total votes. Berry’s bobblehead will be unveiled and distributed to the first 5,000 supporters at the Chicago Fire vs. Sporting Kansas City match Presented by Quaker at Toyota Park on Sunday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. CT (ESPN/107.9 La Ley). Berry, in his second year with the Fire has started all four of the Fire’s matches to date. After a standout collegiate career at the University of Louisville, Berry was selected in the first round (ninth overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft and made his professional debut against Chivas USA May 4. With his goal in the 25th minute of the match, Berry became just the third rookie in Fire history and the first since 1998 to score in a debut MLS appearance. Berry went on to play every minute of the remainder of the season and was an instrumental cog in the Fire defense that held opponents to just 41 goals this season, tied for second best in the Eastern Conference. In 2012, the Men in Red went 17-11-6 and earned 57 points, tied with the 2000 season for the highest point total in club history, and qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs for the 12th time in the club’s 15-year history. In support of Berry as the MLS Rookie of the Year, the Fire and Quaker created a campaign last fall that featured the defender on the cover of 200 Quaker Life Cereal boxes that were distributed to media nationally. On Nov. 19 Berry was named the 2012 MLS Rookie of the Year, receiving more than 50 percent of each the media and team votes. Berry joins Cuauhtémoc Blanco as the only Fire player to be transformed into a bobblehead.
