INTRODUCTION

When the master chef onboard is cooking food for the people onboard, he only wants to use the finest ingredients and the best tools available on the market. This also includes an effective ventilation system to guarantee and maintain the best working conditions for the end-users of the main-galley. The best and most cost effective way to accomplish this is by using an air conditioning system using the air induction principle.

ApplicationBesides al necessary parts and components there are four main ingredients to create an air conditioning system using the air induction principle:• Galley range hood suitable for induction• Central air handling unit for air supply

(induction and treated air)• Exhaust fan for air extraction• Control and monitory system

50% balance air of the total galley extraction system is directly fed from a central air-handling unit (Induction) to the galley range hood. This part of the central air-handling unit is also equipped with a heating system special for winter mode. 30% balance air will be treated by the same central air-handling unit (Treated Air) and fed to cabin units mounted in the ceiling directly around the galley range hood. The 20% air difference between the air supply and exhaust will be kept as a constant under pressure for the main-galley to keep the air and therefore any chance of smells etc. inside the galley. The central air-handling unit is specially designed for the main-galley and both systems - Induction and Treated Air - are built together in one central air-handling unit. The complete main-galley ventilation system is executed with a SCADA Control and Monitoring system for a perfect operating and controllable air conditioning system.

ADVANTAGES

The induction system helps creating a perfect air envelope around the cooking area. In this way almost all fumes and contamination will be extracted. Supplying fresh air from the central air handling unit directly to the galley range hood not only helps creating that specific air envelope, it also contributes to lower energy loss as not all the treated air in the kitchen is extracted by the galley range hood. This means the galley is not only free from fumes, smells and contami-nants; moreover cost savings are realized by reducing energy consumption.

Main advantages are:• Cost effective and energy saving• Air envelope around the cooking area• Perfect working conditions for end-users• Fully customizable solutions for galley ventilation

The system is equipped with a fully customizable SCADA Control system.
