    All of council’s galleries and museums are free to attend, so check out our insider tips and start exploring.

    Moreton Bay Region Art Prize Opening early 2021

    The exciting new Moreton Bay Region Art Prize builds on the strong foundation of the Moreton Bay Region Art Awards, to support and celebrate local artists.

    The exhibition of finalists will be held at the new Pine Rivers Art Gallery. The prize pool totals $10,000 with a non-acquisitive prize of $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, $1,500 for third place and $500 for the people’s choice. Apply online by 26 February 2021.

    Blaklash emerging curator project Coming May 2021

    Supported by Blaklash Creative, Pine Rivers Art Gallery will feature an exhibition developed by an emerging First Nations curator, drawing from Moreton Bay Regional Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast’s art collections. This project is part of Connecting Stories an initiative of Creative Arts Alliance as part of the Regional Arts Services Network and is presented in partnership with Blaklash Creative and the SEQN Regional Gallery Network.

    This project is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Moreton Bay Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

    A Portrait of Australia: Stories through the lens of Australian Geographic 16 October 2020 - 14 February 2021

    This exhibition is a celebration in pictures of the bush, the outback, the coast and the people who live there.

    Featuring photographs from the Australian Geographic archive, be transported to some of the most rugged and remote parts of the country and discover the remarkable stories of ordinary Australians - their indomitable community spirit, their struggles, passions, livelihoods, skills and the changing times through which they have lived.

    A travelling exhibition from the National Museum of Australia developed in collaboration with Australian Geographic.

    Every day, men and women alike apply lotions, groom their hair and carry out hidden beauty regimes to present themselves to the world. Have you ever considered why and how technology, social attitudes and politics have shaped the products we use?

    It’s personal takes us inside the world of intimate objects and personal effects where nothing is taboo. Discover the makeup style of the 1920s adventurous woman, what First World War nurses had to do with sanitary pads and the meaning behind men’s beards.

    Fetch the doctor! 11 June - 3 October 2021

    Have you ever had a vaccine? Taken antibiotics? Been operated on by a robot? We rely on modern medicine to keep us alive and well, but what did survival look like 100 years ago?

    Fetch the doctor! explores the grim yet fascinating medical history of pioneers of the local region. We uncover the challenges of getting to a doctor; the popular potions which proved toxic; and the life and death choices that had to be made.

    Featuring intriguing and sometimes disturbing surgical equipment, killer pills and medical misadventure, Fetch the doctor! will leave you thankful for modern medical advancements.

    Exhibition developed by Moreton Bay Regional Council.

    Conversation starter Be intrigued, challenged, amazed and delighted by speakers with vision and courage sharing contemporary ideas informed by our heritage. Conversations about who we are, where we’ve been and where we’re going. No topic is off the table! This series takes the baton from the hugely successful Heritage Talks and takes it to the next level!
