Gain Valuable STEM + IT Skills… and Serve Your Community! JEVS TechServ Scholars AmeriCorps Program 2018-2019 FACT SHEET The TechServ Scholars AmeriCorps Program, operated by JEVS Human Services, is a unique, year- long opportunity for Philly youth who want to help their community through service and civic engagement, while developing technical, career skills. LEARN TechServ Scholars build skills for career pathways in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and IT (Information Technology), gain certifications, and benefit from hands-on experiences guided by professional mentors. SERVE TechServ Scholars will provide STEM and digital literacy training to younger youth and community members through the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation’s public computer centers, schools and other community-based programs throughout Philadelphia and Camden. These “Learn and Serve” experiences allow TechServ Scholars to gain career exposure and advanced knowledge for the workforce, as well as develop crucial workforce “soft skills,” such as leadership, project management, problem-solving and customer service. During their year of training and service, Scholars also have an opportunity to create a professional portfolio of their skills and achievements. In addition, they may prepare for entering into a STEM-related registered apprenticeship program and/or pursue higher education.

The TechServ Scholars AmeriCorps Program, operated by JEVS Human Services, is a unique, year-long opportunity for Philly youth who want to help their community through service and civic engagement, while developing technical, career skills.

Eligibility and CommitmentTO BE ELIGIBLE YOU MUST: • Be between 17 and 24 years of age on 8/1/18 • Have a high school diploma, GED certificate or

working toward a GED • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident • Submit a completed 2018 – 2019 application

SERVICE COMMITMENT: • 1700 hours of service (40 hours/wk) • From August 2018 to August 2019 • Day, evening and weekend service opportunities

Member Benefits • $13,750 living allowance • Be mentored by a STEM professional • Monthly SEPTA transpass • Health care benefits • SEGAL education award of $5,920 upon

completion of program • Tools & equipment, including laptops • Specialized STEM/technical training • Official TechServ Scholars uniforms • Child care reimbursement (if applicable)
