GADGET REPORT FOR MY DIGITAL CAMERA

I know this is a bit funny because the camera is 4 years old, almost a dinosaur in tech years!

HISTORY OF THE DIGITAL CAMERA

“Digital camera technology is directly related to and evolved from the same technology that recorded television images. In 1951, the first video tape recorder (VTR) captured live images from television cameras by converting the information into electrical impulses (digital) and saving the information onto magnetic tape.”

“The first digital cameras for the consumer-level market that worked with a home computer via a serial cable were the Apple QuickTake 100 camera (February 17 , 1994), the Kodak DC40 camera (March 28, 1995).”

MY SMART GOAL

I want to start a photo library that students can access for their Wikispace project.

This will be great because I do not have to worry about copyright issues.

I also realized that I spend a lot of time looking for images online.

With my own library, I can access images quickly and tailor the pictures to the subjects the students are studying.

TAKING TIME TO STUDY AND PLAY

I took time over spring break to take some pictures that would be appropriate for the project.

Specifically ones with street scenes because the Wikispace is entitled Take it to the Streets.

What I needed to learn was how to get them from my camera into an album and then onto the wiki.

The knowledgeable other became the Kodak site where I downloaded the program to edit the pictures and clicked around until I figured out the program.

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

THOUGHTS ON THE PHOTOS LESSON PLAN

Some of the pictures I uploaded were from my time in graduate school in Kansas. I thought they would be great climate change photos.

I also saw some religious men taking their message to the streets. Although I believe in separating church and state, I could not resist the photo,

My lesson plan for the students includes teaching them how to make a banner in PowerPoint and then saving it as a file in the wiki to use for their projects. This lesson plan is posted on our class Wiki.

I have to admit that the students would rather upload pictures from the web.

They did not seem to be too impressed with my album.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

FINAL THOUGHTS WIKI-PROJECT I do think teachers should

start a photo album of images for their students. It saves the students time searching for images.

However, they really like searching for the right image.

This of course brings up copyright issues that I do not have time to address in English class.

Feel free to check out the Wikispace I am doing with ACM my students.
