We respectfully request that you do not come into school to pick up / drop off students. This causes safety and congestion issues at the barrier and onto the main road outside the school. We would appreciate your co-operation in this matter.

us to shout about? Please contact your child's Form Tutor or email us at [email protected] with details.
Lauren Hart - Year 10
Lauren Hart has been selected for the ESFA England Under 15 Girls International football squad following a National trials process. The three-stage trial process began in early October where initially around 200 girls from across England took part, each nominated by their local County FA. Lauren attended a squad-training weekend held at Lilleshall National Sports Centre where she was presented with her kit. The final 16-girl team will travel in February to PSV Eindhoven in Holland for a 4 days training/match schedule. The International programme continues with a match against Republic of Ireland in March and then takes her to Belfast where she will represent England in a Home Nations Tournament.
Congratulations to Lauren on this fantastic achievement.
Rehearsals for the school production of Rock of Ages are well and truly on their way, with pupils attending late night rehearsal in the music department! Principal characters stayed until 7.00pm to go through all of their songs for the show...it's getting close!
Rock of Ages Rehearsals on the way...
The Trust Finance Director has just signed off on £50K of equipment for our fitness suite. We expect to be pumping iron or ambling along the treadmill by February 2018.
On Friday 12th January a group of students attended a British Basketball League game at the Copper Box Arena in Stratford. The London Lions took on Cheshire Phoenix in a closely fought battle with the Lions eventually running out winners 86-81 in front of a large crowd. At the end of the evening, 6’7’’ forward Brandon Peel posed alongside the boys and ex-Gable Hall student Harry Blackburn who currently trains with the Lions Academy. Mr Walker and Miss Upston shared that “the boys had a great evening and were a credit to the school.”

Gable Hall Fitter than Ever!...
Later this year the School will commence the extension of the school canteen to provide a covered outside dining area with a bistro servery. As part of this change we will provide 3 additional till points that can be used if demand increases further. We envisage that this enhancement will allow pupils to enter the dining area, queue and be served more comfortably and efficiently than previously. The project will be complete by
September 2018.
Rock of Ages tickets are now on sale. Staff and pupils have been working hard to create a spectacular show with lots of singing, dancing, comedy and of course…80s rock anthems!! Opening night is 5th Feb and the fancy dress finale is 9th Feb. Prizes to be won for the best dressed 80’s rocker audience member!! Tickets are £8 adult and £4 concessions; you can get these by
contacting Miss Latham or they will be on sale in the drama
studio at break times! So, “Come on feel the noise” with us at
Gable Hall!

New Canteen Plans...
Our year 12 pupils have started a 6 week Commedia Dell’Arte course with The Complete Commedia Company. Pupils will study the characters and style of Commedia and will be working towards a devised performance.
Pupils have been working hard to study the characteristics and adapt to the mask work needed to play the set characters, within the Commedia stories. Bernadette Wakeling, founding member of the company, has been very impressed with their enthusiasm and could not praise students enough for their positive attitude in the workshops.

Rave reviews for “As You Like It”
Kane Crocker - Year 11
Kane received the Jack Petchey award for being an outstanding achiever in his scouting role as a young leader at 1st Stanford Scout Group. Kane is always willing to help every week at the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with any activities. If it is planning, organising activities or helping with weekends away Kane is always there, he is a great asset to the group.
The Jack Petchey foundation scheme is a reward and recognition initiative which enables schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people as well as receiving additional funding. You can only get this award by being nominated by someone. Kane received a certificate, medal and £250 to spend how he likes on his scout group.
As You Like It by Gable Hall School
at The Thameside Theatre, 23/11/2017
Appraised by Robyn Winfield-Smith
I would like to offer sincere thanks and congratulations to
Gable Hall School for your wonderful production of As You Like It
as part of the 2017 Shakespeare Schools Festival. Students and
teachers alike have put hard work, imagination, determination
and passion into this production, and were a credit to the
school. I'd like to take this opportunity to highlight just a few
fantastic moments that you should be especially proud of.
The super energy and fun of the opening - it instantly set up
that world for us: the vinyl, the glow-sticks, the make-up
and the umbrellas! They were fantastic - I loved how they
became whatever they needed to be, at any moment, such
as the forest.
The clarity and projection in people's voices, across the
board, as well as the lovely visual storytelling through
well-chosen gestures and still images. The whole space
was utilised really well, filling the stage and sharing the
story with the audience.
The real comedy in the forest, especially from Touchstone
and Co, and the chasing lovers. It was great to see
characters who had 'real' stories that exploded right out of
the wings and continued on after the scene...
The beautifully inventive and theatrical staging of the 7
Ages of Man - EVERYONE played their part, and everyone
was genuinely able to trust and rely on the support of
everyone else in making those images work.
A really fun and visually stimulating As You Like It, presented by
a disciplined, creative and talented cast.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this superb production. I
hope to see Gable Hall School in the Festival again next year.

Not recommended for
children’ is printed on every
can of energy drink. So why
do we allow under 16s to
purchase them?
Jamie Oliver joins the
largest education union, teachers and academics to call for age
restrictions on the sale of energy drinks to kids under 16.
#NotForChildren
The label on every energy drink can says ‘not recommended for
children’, but 69% of UK adolescents and 24% of under 10s are
drinking them.
They’re packed with caffeine, lots of sugar and kids can buy
them for as little as 25p. As well as being very bad for their
health, it also causes a disruption to learning at school.
While most schools have banned them, 1 in 20 kids have one
for breakfast and 41% of Scottish 13-15 year olds buy a sugary
drink - including fizzy drinks and energy drinks - on their lunch
break. It’s part of their daily routine, and it’s out of control.
As part of Jamie’s campaign to cut childhood obesity and promote healthy diets for kids, he is calling on Jeremy Hunt to put age restrictions on the sale of energy drinks to kids 16 and under.
Friday Night Feast aired on Channel 4 at 8pm on Friday 5th January 2018.
The show features a powerful segment on the sale of energy to kids. Jamie and Jimmy explore how many kids are buying and drinking and what they do to their bodies, concentration and schooling with alarming results.
