Costa chief executive Pier Luigi Foschi apologises for wreck, defends company’s safety record, criticises captain but says crew acted like heroes. Captain made an ‘unapproved, unauthorised’ manoeuvre to change the programmed course, Foschi said.
He adds a similar salute was approved by company in August on a similar course. The approved course that time was no closer than 500 metres, he says
