FABRICE ANDREMedical OncologistVillejuif, France

Fabrice André, MD, PhD, re-ceived his M.D. in Grenoble in

2002, and a PhD in Biotechnology from Paris University in 2005.

He spent one year as visiting assistant pro-fessor at the University of Texas, MD Ander-son Cancer Center and was a past recipient of Young Investigator and Career Development awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He is currently Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology, Ins-titut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France.

Professor André is conducting research in the field of biomarkers and personalised thera-pies. His research work focuses on biomarker discovery, development of targeted agents and implementation of personalised medi-cine in France. His team includes 50 people working on basic sciences, bioinformatics, biotechnologies and clinical research. Pro-fessor André is also leading phase I-III trials

testing targeted agents in the field of breast cancer and large national trials testing imple-mentation of high throughput technologies in the health care system.

He has published more than 100 peer re-viewed papers, including papers in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Nature Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology and Lancet Oncology, either as main or co-author.

Professor André is chairman of the biomarker group at UNICANCER (French cooperative group). He was a member of several scientific committees for international meetings, inclu-ding ECCO, ESMO, and IMPAKT.

JEFFREY A. ASCHERMANPlastic SurgeonNew York, USA

Dr. Ascherman is Chief of the Division of Plastic Sur-

gery and a Professor of Surgery at Colum-bia University Medical Center. He attended Harvard University where he obtained a B.A. degree with honors in Engineering Sciences. Following this, he received his M. D. from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, and he then completed his general and plastic surgery training at the Columbia University Medical Center. In addition, he completed a cranio-facial fellowship at Hopital Necker Enfants Malades in Paris.

Dr. Ascherman is an experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has publi-shed over 75 scientific articles and chapters, and has presented his work at a number of national and international meetings. He is a member of numerous plastic surgery so-cieties, including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American As-sociation of Plastic Surgeons, and the Nor-theastern Society of Plastic Surgeons where he is President-Elect. Dr. Ascherman cur-rently serves as Principal Investigator for the U.S. multi-center AirXpander trial examining a new type of remote control breast tissue

expander that is self-controlled and filled with CO2 rather than saline. He has been an active participant in humanitarian surgical missions, and has traveled numerous times to China as well as to South America to per-form volunteer surgeries.

Michael ATLAN, MD, PhD is an associate Professor, at Pierre

et Marie Curie Faculty of Medicine, with a permanent position in Tenon Hospital (As-sistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris) in an integrated Breast Cancer Center. Former head of department of Pontoise Hospital, he now is the head of Unit of Plastic and Re-constructive surgery, and pursues an acade-mic career within his institution. With three other surgeons and two residents, his team practices aesthetic surgery and has the res-ponsibility of dermatologic, thoracic, abdo-minal wall and pelvic post-oncological sur-gery defects. He did his residency in France between Lille and Paris (Pr Lantiéri Team) and he got a position for a Microsurgical and Hand Surgery Fellowship in Montreal and a Breast Reconstruction Fellowship in the University Of British Columbia, in Vancou-ver. Michael Atlans’s areas of expertise are microsurgical breast reconstructions (Free flaps and Lymphedema) and the evaluation of plastic surgery innovations, especially for breast surgery (Acellular regeneration Ma-trix and other devices).

Dr Corinne BALLEYGUIER, MD, PhD, radiologist at Gus-

tave Roussy Cancer Campus, Villejuif, France. Specialized in Women Imaging, Breast and gynaecologic Imaging. She is a member of the French radiological society (SFR), the French breast Imaging society (elected as active

member since 2010) (SIFEM), the European Society of Radiology (ESR), the European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI)- Active member elected since 2012, the European Society of Uro-genital Radiology (ESUR), the Radiological Society of North American Ra-diology, the editorial board European Journal of Radiology-Woman imaging and the ESUR gynaecological subcommittee since 2008. She is a section editor on Woman Imaging for European Journal of Radiology since 2010. Dr Balleyguier is involved in breast Imaging committee for ECR 2012-2013-2014-2015. She was the Chairwoman of Uro-Gynecolo-gical Imaging of ECR 2010 and will be the Chairwoman of breast imaging committee for ECR 2016.

CORINNE BECKERPlastic SurgeonParis, France

Dr. Corinne Becker is a pioneer surgeon that developed the

microsurgical autologous lymph node trans-fer (ALNT), also known as vascularized lymph node transfer (VLNT). Her first steps in ge-neral and plastic surgery and research be-gan in Belgium (with Pr Bremmer, Carpentier, Graff ). But her real training was performed in France in plastic surgery, hand surgery and microsurgery. She had the big honour to work with Pr Michon, Tubiana, Merle, Gilbert, Hid-den, Riquet), and in Germany with Pr Muhlba-uer. She combined her work with short travels all around the world for training, congresses and research programs. Her research in ana-tomy (many flaps discoveries), biochemistry on neurotrophic hormones and in lympholo-gy (anatomy, histology, isotopy, radiology, genetic, biochemistry) were performed from her 2nd year of medicine till now.

Dr. Becker now works in Paris at the American Hospital and the European University Hos-pital Georges-Pompidou and in the United States at the Westside Regional Medical Cen-ter located near Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is a member of the French Academy of Sur-


gery and an invited professor in New York to develop the lymphedema surgery. Dr Becker participates to various international confe-rences and operates all around the world. Dr Per Hedén began his medical training at the Ka-

rolinska Institute in Sweden, and entered plastic surgery training in 1978. He early de-veloped interest in the then emerging field of microsurgery and subsequently became a driving force in establishing microsurgery practice in the region. In 1981 this lead to the first microsurgical operation performed in Stockholm.

In 1982, he was offered a position in Australia. This was followed by plastic surgery research in the U.S. under Professor Elof Eriksson in Il-

Dr Sofia Rivera is an MD, MSc, head of a radiation unit at Gus-

tave Roussy, cancer center, currently finishing her PhD in radiobiology. She is a 39 year-old radiation oncologist working at Gustave Roussy Cancer Center since January 2013.


She has studied medicine and radiation on-cology in Paris, Dijon and Madrid (ERASMUS program), with some time spent in Equatorial Guinea (humanitarian mission). She passed the Radiation Oncology Board Certification Exam in 2008 with her medical thesis on the evaluation of quality assurance procedures by dummy run in a phase III trial. During her training, she was charmed by the multidisci-plinary nature of radiation oncology and the enormous potential for innovation within this field. In addition to her clinical work, she un-dertook a Master’s degree of Science in Ra-diobiology and is currently finishing her PhD on a translational radiobiology topic evalua-ting the combination of a Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor and radiation in preclinical in vitro and in vivo Non Small Cell Lung Can-cer models at the Gustave Roussy Radiobio-logy Laboratory (INSERM1030 Unit), running in parallel a phase I trial combining an HDAC inhibitor with palliative irradiation which has just been completed. Following her studies in the Cancer Center of Dijon (France), she also worked as an assistant professor in Ra-diation Oncology in the university hospital of Saint Louis in Paris while becoming senior radiation oncologist in the same institution. In 2013, she accepted to head Unit A of the radiation oncology department at Gustave Roussy Cancer Center, Paris Cancer Campus, Villejuif (France) leading the breast cancer radiation unit. With eight linear accelerators, and a ninth being installed currently, about 4000 new radiotherapy treatments per year (among which more than a third given to breast cancer patients), she leads a growing multidisciplinary unit at the cutting edge of research and technology in an expanding de-partment in the stimulating environment of a major cancer center. She promotes clinical radiation oncology unit work in close rela-tionship with the INSERM1030 Unit located in nearby preclinical research building, faci-litating translational research programs with the integration of research into daily clinical practice.

Mahasti Saghatchian, MD, MSs, is a medical oncologist who joined the staff at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre “Institut Gustave Roussy” (IGR), Villejuif, France, in 2002. She works as senior medical oncologist in the Breast Cancer Unit, where she is especially involved in the translational research programmes.

She studied Medicine at the University of Paris V before becoming a Board Certified Breast-Oncologist in 1999. She worked as associate Professor in Oncology at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou in Paris. After a Masters in Immunology, she followed a Doc-toral Research Fellowship at the University of Amsterdam directed by Laura van’t Veer on genomic predictors of breast cancer relapse.

Her main interests include breast cancer care and the development of a quality of care pro-gramme in European Cancer centres.

She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Transbig Consortium and Mindact Trial, dedicated to translational research in breast cancer.

Her main achievement in the field of Euro-pean affairs includes chairmanship of the Ac-creditation-Designation Programme (Euro-pean programme of assessment of quality of care and designation of comprehensive can-cer centres) for the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI). She has been suc-cessfully leading this programme for 13 years, resulting in accreditation and designation of 27 centres in 13 countries. She is leading a re-search programme in this field within the 7 FP Project EurocanPlatform, funded by the European Commission.

She is member of the editorial board of the Annals of Oncology and several other jour-nals. She has been publishing in peer-re-viewed international journals.

She has given presentations at national and international plastic surgery meetings, especially covering all aspects of breast reconstruction and aes-thetic breast surgery, and microsurgery. Dr Isabelle Sarfati is aplastic sur-geon, specialising in breast sur-

gery and facial cosmetic surgery.

She graduated in both general surgery and in plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery.

After completing her surgical training in in Paris (former Intern and former Head of the Clinique des Hôpitaux de Paris) and in the United States, she was assistant to Dr. Paul Tessier, one of the world leaders in plastic surgery during the 1980s. A long period of collaboration with Dr Krishna CLOUGH (then Head of department at the Curie Institute) led to a desire to create a structure combining public and private health care: a place where high quality medicine, teaching and research could coexist with consultation, care and reassurance. This project led to the founda-tion of the PARIS BREAST CENTRE in 2004.

Dr Sarfati participates in the development of innovative techniques in cosmetic and re-constructive surgery. In particular, she is one of the pioneers in the use of filling techniques (fat graft and hyaluronic acid) in breast sur-gery.She is a member of SOFCEP, the French So-ciety of Plastic Surgeons and of the French Society of Senology.

She teaches at the European School of Sur-gery and participates in training students of the Inter-University Degree in Senological, Oncological and Restorative Surgical Tech-niques.

A respected breast surgeon with more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Willey is reco-gnized nationally and internationally for her leadership and expertise. A past president of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Dr. Willey has performed medical mission work and conducted international health educa-


tion programs throughout the world.Dr. Willey has a particular interest in the surgical management and surveillance of patients who are gene mutation carriers, especially those who undergo prophylac-tic mastectomy. She is a pioneer in the field of nipple-sparing mastectomy and has au-thored several publications on the topic. Along with Dr. Scott Spear, Dr. Willey has co-chaired three BC3 conferences (Breast Cancer Coordinated Care) that address lo-cal and regional control of breast cancer. In addition, she co-edited the second and third editions of Surgery of the Breast.Dr. Willey believes strongly in MedStar Georgetown’s tradition of focusing on both excellent clinical care and research that ad-vances the field of breast surgery. She di-vides her time between treating patients with the most advanced care available and conducting research to benefit patients in the future.

Dr. Willey is principal investigator or co-in-vestigator on numerous clinical trials. Sub-jects under study include predictors of post-mastectomy local-regional recurrence and distant metastases, and management of a positive lymph node in patients receiving preoperative chemotherapy. In addition, she is a prolific author and presenter at nume-rous national and international conferences.

Dr. Willey has spent her entire career in the Washington, DC, area, mentoring many stu-dents, residents and breast surgery fellows. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology, Breast Surgery Interna-tional and many other professional organi-zations. Among her many honors and awards are recognitions as Top Doctor (U.S. News & World Report), Best Doctors, and America’s Top Doctors.
