Fabrice André, MD, PhD, re-ceived his M.D. in Grenoble in

2002, and a PhD in Biotechnology from Paris University in 2005.

He spent one year as visiting assistant pro-fessor at the University of Texas, MD Ander-son Cancer Center and was a past recipient of Young Investigator and Career Development awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He is currently Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology, Ins-titut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France.

Professor André is conducting research in the field of biomarkers and personalised thera-pies. His research work focuses on biomarker discovery, development of targeted agents and implementation of personalised medi-cine in France. His team includes 50 people working on basic sciences, bioinformatics, biotechnologies and clinical research. Pro-fessor André is also leading phase I-III trials

testing targeted agents in the field of breast cancer and large national trials testing imple-mentation of high throughput technologies in the health care system.

Dr Per Hedén began his medical training at the Ka-

rolinska Institute in Sweden, and entered plastic surgery training in 1978. Dr Per Hedén founded Akademikliniken in 1991, which now is one of Europes largest pri-vate hospital that specializes in plastic surge-ry. He has published more than 50 scientific articles, and is a member of many national and international plastic surgical societies.

Professor Hedén has developed several new techniques applying to the use of form stable anatomical breast implants. He has written several textbook chapters on breast augmen-tation and he has been invited to many coun-

tries where he has performed operations to demonstrate his techniques.

Being a very early user of Botulinum toxin and Hyaluronic acid fillers Dr Hedén is also well known for his non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques and has held numerous internatio-nal workshops demonstrating his techniques.

Since 2002 Dr Hedén also runs the annual in-ternational aesthetic Beauty Through Science meeting inStockholm. This is now northern Europe’s largest aesthetic medicine meeting.

After achieving his medical degree at Barcelona Univer-

sity, Professor Masia carried out plastic sur-gery training at Sant Pau University Hospi-tal in Barcelona. He completed his training through fellowships at Canniesburn Hospital (Glasgow, UK) and Queen Victoria Hospital (East Grinstead, UK).

In 1999, he introduced DIEP flaps for breast reconstruction in Spain. He got a post as consultant in plastic surgery at Sant Pau Uni-versity Hospital in 2001. She has studied medicine and radiation on-cology in Paris, Dijon and Madrid (ERASMUS program), with some time spent in Equatorial Guinea (humanitarian mission). She passed the Radiation Oncology Board Certification Exam in 2008 with her medical thesis on the evaluation of quality assurance procedures by dummy run in a phase III trial. During her training, she was charmed by the multidisci-plinary nature of radiation oncology and the enormous potential for innovation within this field. In addition to her clinical work, she un-dertook a Master’s degree of Science in Ra-diobiology and is currently finishing her PhD on a translational radiobiology topic evalua-ting the combination of a Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor and radiation in preclinical in vitro and in vivo Non Small Cell Lung Can-cer models at the Gustave Roussy Radiobio-logy Laboratory (INSERM1030 Unit), running in parallel a phase I trial combining an HDAC inhibitor with palliative irradiation which has just been completed. Following her studies in the Cancer Center of Dijon (France), she also worked as an assistant professor in Ra-diation Oncology in the university hospital of Saint Louis in Paris while becoming senior radiation oncologist in the same institution. In 2013, she accepted to head Unit A of the radiation oncology department at Gustave Roussy Cancer Center, Paris Cancer Campus, Villejuif (France) leading the breast cancer radiation unit. With eight linear accelerators, and a ninth being installed currently, about 4000 new radiotherapy treatments per year (among which more than a third given to breast cancer patients), she leads a growing multidisciplinary unit at the cutting edge of research and technology in an expanding de-partment in the stimulating environment of a major cancer center. She promotes clinical radiation oncology unit work in close rela-tionship with the INSERM1030 Unit located in nearby preclinical research building, faci-litating translational research programs with the integration of research into daily clinical practice.

Mahasti Saghatchian, MD, MSs, is a medical oncologist who joined the staff at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre “Institut Gustave Roussy” (IGR), Villejuif, France, in 2002. She works as senior medical oncologist in the Breast Cancer Unit, where she is especially involved in the translational research programmes.

She studied Medicine at the University of Paris V before becoming a Board Certified Breast-Oncologist in 1999. She worked as associate Professor in Oncology at Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou in Paris. After a Masters in Immunology, she followed a Doc-toral Research Fellowship at the University of Amsterdam directed by Laura van’t Veer on genomic predictors of breast cancer relapse.

Her main interests include breast cancer care and the development of a quality of care pro-gramme in European Cancer centres.

She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Transbig Consortium and Mindact Trial, dedicated to translational research in breast cancer.

Her main achievement in the field of Euro-pean affairs includes chairmanship of the Ac-creditation-Designation Programme (Euro-pean programme of assessment of quality of care and designation of comprehensive can-cer centres) for the Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI). She has been suc-cessfully leading this programme for 13 years, resulting in accreditation and designation of 27 centres in 13 countries. She is leading a re-search programme in this field within the 7 FP Project EurocanPlatform, funded by the European Commission.

A long period of collaboration with Dr Krishna CLOUGH (then Head of department at the Curie Institute) led to a desire to create a structure combining public and private health care: a place where high quality medicine, teaching and research could coexist with consultation, care and reassurance. This project led to the founda-tion of the PARIS BREAST CENTRE in 2004.

Dr Sarfati participates in the development of innovative techniques in cosmetic and re-constructive surgery. In particular, she is one of the pioneers in the use of filling techniques (fat graft and hyaluronic acid) in breast sur-gery.She is a member of SOFCEP, the French So-ciety of Plastic Surgeons and of the French Society of Senology.

During all these years, Dr. Stan attended several supra-specialized courses in Roma-nia but mainly abroad; whose peak was the Master’s Degree in Aesthetic Surgery at the University in Milan, Italy, within the School of Plastic Surgery, in university year 2000-2001 (Professor Donatti and Professor Pelle-grini).In 2003 Dr. Stan started his second speciali-zation training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, in the clinic of Professor Ioan Las-car in Floreasca Emergency Hospital in Bu-charest.

Georgetown University Medical Center, vice chairman of clinical affairs in the Surgery Department at MedStar Georgetown Univer-sity Hospital, and director of MedStar’s Re-gional Breast Health Program. She also is a member of the Breast Cancer Program at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, D.C.

A respected breast surgeon with more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Willey is reco-gnized nationally and internationally for her leadership and expertise. A past president of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, Dr. Willey has performed medical mission work and conducted international health educa-

tion programs throughout the world.Dr. Willey has a particular interest in the surgical management and surveillance of patients who are gene mutation carriers, especially those who undergo prophylac-tic mastectomy. She is a pioneer in the field of nipple-sparing mastectomy and has au-thored several publications on the topic. Along with Dr. Scott Spear, Dr. Willey has co-chaired three BC3 conferences (Breast Cancer Coordinated Care) that address lo-cal and regional control of breast cancer. In addition, she co-edited the second and third editions of Surgery of the Breast.Dr. Willey believes strongly in MedStar Georgetown’s tradition of focusing on both excellent clinical care and research that ad-vances the field of breast surgery. She di-vides her time between treating patients with the most advanced care available and conducting research to benefit patients in the future.

Dr. Willey is principal investigator or co-in-vestigator on numerous clinical trials. Sub-jects under study include predictors of post-mastectomy local-regional recurrence and distant metastases, and management of a positive lymph node in patients receiving preoperative chemotherapy. In addition, she is a prolific author and presenter at nume-rous national and international conferences.

Dr. Willey has spent her entire career in the Washington, DC, area, mentoring many stu-dents, residents and breast surgery fellows. She is a member of the American Society for Clinical Oncology, Breast Surgery Interna-tional and many other professional organi-zations. Among her many honors and awards are recognitions as Top Doctor (U.S. News & World Report), Best Doctors, and America’s Top Doctors.
