  • Ysgol Dôlafon February 2018

A big thank you to Jennie and Liz for leading dance lessons in all classes this

term, We’ve all had such great time learning a cross section of dances from

‘Me and My Teddy Bear’ to ‘ the Lambeth Walk’. Children have been learning

routines incorporating tap, folk and the waltz.

Côr Dôlafon accompanied by Heather Davis, entertained the Thursday Club at

their Annual Christmas lunch at the Belle View Hotel. The children opted not

to sing Christmas carols but instead sang a variety of numbers some of which

involved audience participation. All seemed to enjoy! Thanks go out to

Heather Davis for all her work with Côr Dôlafon.

6th February was Safer Internet Day. Our Digiwizards -Evan, Izzie, Joe and

Veronika lead assemblies with the Foundation Phase classes and Key Stage 2

classes. Their presentations centred around the theme ‘ Create, Connect and

Share Respect: A better internet starts with you’. The Digiwizards hope

pupils have taken their message onboard and will remember to act safely and

respectfully when online both at home and school.

Following discussions at ES Council with regards to plastic waste, we have now

decided to be a plastic straw and plastic cup free school! It was also decided

to hold our walk to school week commencing 12th March.

As part of World Book Day on March 2nd we will be holding a competition for

best dressed character from a book.

On 21st March from 4pm-6pm we will be holding an opening evening for

parents to come and look at their children’s work. School will also be open for

members of the community to pop in and join us all in wishing Andrea Moore

all the best of luck in her next chapter. Light refreshments will be available.

If you would like to give a donation towards a gift please ensure all monies

are in School by 9th March.

  • Llanwrtyd Wells Thursday Walkers

Despite the unpredictable winter weather-conditions, the Llanwrtyd Wells Thursday Walkers continue to meet up each week to set out for a walk of around 5-miles in the surrounding area. Recent walks have included sections of the Eppynt Way, the canal from Talybont to Brecon, waterfalls in Rhandirmwyn and a railway walk from Llangammarch back to Llanwrtyd.

Future plans include an occasional 'away-day' with Neath Valley waterfalls and Pen-y-Van in mind and more railway walks along sections of the Heart-of-Wales line, as well as local walks starting and finishing in Llanwrtyd.

The Thursday Walkers meet-up at the Neuadd Arms Hotel and leave at 10.30am, new walkers/visitors welcome. The walk is at an easy-pace, no-one gets left behind, it's a friendly group and everybody's welcome including families and dogs (with leads). It's essential to come equipped with proper boots and appropriate clothing and bring water & a picnic lunch.
