Subject of the AgreementThesubjectof thisAgreementistheGDATAAntiVirusandtheprogramdescriptionstoredon theCD-ROMwhich are referred to in the following as the “Software”.GDATAherewith informsusers that it isnot technologicallypossible toguarantee thatcomputersoftwarewillfunctionwithouterrorinallapplicationsandinconjunctionwithotherprograms.

2. Scope of useGDATAherewithgrantsyouthesimple,non-exclusiveandpersonalright(alsoreferredto inthe followingasthe“License”)touseAntiVirusKitonasinglecomputer(i.e., acomputerwithonlyonecentralprocessingunit(CPU))atasinglelocation.If thissinglecomputerisamultiusersystem,theLicenseshallapplytoalltheusersof thisonesystem.AstheLicenseeyouareentitledtophysicallymovetheSoftware(i.e.,whenitisstoredonadatamedium)fromonecomputertoanothercomputerprovidedthattheSoftwareisusedonlyonasinglecomputeratanygiventime.Anyotheruseisprohibited.

3. Special limitationsTheLicenseeisprohibitedfrom

a)transferringAntiVirusKitfromonecomputertoanothercomputerviaanetworkoranyothertypeof datatransmissionchannel;

b)modifyingAntiVirusKitwithoutthepriorwrittenconsentof GDATA.

4. Ownership Yourpurchaseof theproductentitlesyouonlytoownershipof thephysicaldatame-diumonwhichtheGDATAAntiVirusisstored.Acquisitionof thesoftwareitself isnotincludedtherewith.Inparticular,GDATAreservesallrightsof publication,reproduction,revision,andenjoyment.

5. ReproductionTheSoftwareanditswrittendocumentationareprotectedbycopyright.Thecreationof backupcopiesof theSoftwareispermitted,butnocopiesmaybepassedtothirdparties.

6. Duration of the AgreementTheAgreementshallremainineffectindefinitely.Anyinfringementof theconditionsof thisAgreementonthepartof theLicenseeshallautomaticallyterminatetheLicensee’srightswithoutnotice.Uponterminationof theLicense,theLicenseeshallbeobligedtodestroytheoriginalCD-ROMincludinganyUPDATES/UPGRADESaswellasallrelatedwrittenmaterial.

8. Modifications and updatesOurserviceconditionsshallalwaysbevalidintheirlatestform.Serviceconditionsmaychangewithoutnoticeand/orreason.

9. Warranty and liability on the part of G DATAa)GDATAguarantees to theoriginalLicensee that thedatamedium(CD-ROM)onwhichtheSoftwareisstoredisfreefromdefectsasusedundernormaloperatingcondi-tionsandwithnormalcare.

b) If thedatamedium(theCD-ROM) isdefective, thepurchaser isentitled toa re-placement during the warranty period of 6 months following delivery. To receive areplacementdatamediumthepurchasermustsendthedefectiveCD-ROMandacopyof thereceiptorinvoicetoGDATA.

c)Forthereasonsindicatedinpara.1,GDATAprovidesnoguaranteethattheSoftwareisfreeof errors.Inparticular,GDATAdoesnotguaranteethattheSoftwarewillsatisfythepurchaser’sspecificrequirementsandpurposes,orthattheSoftwarewillfunctionincombinationwithotherprogramsselectedbythepurchaser.Thepurchaserisexclusivelyresponsibleforthecorrectselectionandfortheconsequencesof usingtheSoftwareaswellasforanyintendedoractualachievedresultsfromitsuse.ThesameappliesforthewrittenmaterialsuppliedwiththeSoftware.If theSoftwareisunusableinthesenseof 1.thepurchaserisentitledtocancelthisAgreement.GDATAisalsoentitledtocancelthisAgreementif themanufactureof usablesoftwareinthesenseof 1isnotpossiblewithreasonableeffortandexpense.

d)GDATAshallnotbeliablefordamagesunlesssuchdamagesareintentionalortheresultsof grossnegligenceonthepartof GDATA.No liabilityshallbeassumed forgrossnegligencewithregardtodealingswithbusinessmen.Themaximumcompensationinanycaseisthepurchasepriceof theGDATAAntiVirus.

10. JurisdictionSole jurisdiction for any disputes resulting directly or indirectly from the contractualrelationshipof thisAgreementshallbe,atourdiscretion,thelocationof ourcompanyheadquartersorthedomicileof thepurchaser.

11. Final provisionsIf anyprovisioninthisAgreementisorbecomesinvalid,allotherprovisionsshallremainin force. Basic.Virus.AnalysisItisveryimportanttorunaninitial virus scanusingthebootCDbefore installingthe G DATA AntiVirus software for the first time! This checks whether your systemhasalreadybeen infectedbyviruses. If youdonot run the initial virus scan,harmfulprogramssuchasstealthvirusescouldevadethevirusprotectionandonlybedetectedatalaterdateif,indeed,theyaredetectedatall.

Acorrectinstallationof theGDATAAntiVirussoftware,includinganinitialvirusscan,couldrunasfollows:

1. Insert the G DATA AntiVirus software CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

2. Now turn your computer off for at least 5 seconds: This isvital,as somestealthvirusesareabletoprotectthemselvesagainstawarmstart(i.e.Restart).

3. Now turn your computer on again: YourcomputerwillnowstartwithaspecialGDATAAntiVirussoftwaredesktop,ratherthanthestandardWindowsinterface.Thiswillhelpyoutoremoveanyvirusesthatmayalreadybepresentonyourcomputer.If yourcomputerdoesnotautomaticallybootfromtheCD-ROMdrive,youwillfirstneedtoconfigureyourcomputertodothis.

What is a boot CD?

A boot CD is a “bootable” CD-ROM; in other words, it uses its own operating system to start a computer directly. The computer will therefore not use the standard operating system present on the hard drive (e.g. Windows XP) when you switch it on, but it will use the operating system present on the CD-ROM (e.g. LINUX). The CD-ROM containing G DATA’s AntiVirus software not only holds the G DATA AntiVirus software for installing under Windows, but also doubles as a boot CD.

How can my computer be made to boot from the CD-ROM drive?

In order for the computer to boot from the CD-ROM drive, the BIOS (the initial software responsible, for instance, for launching Windows when the computer is turned on) must be configured accordingly. If this is not the case, you will first need to change the boot sequence to “CD-ROM:, C:” in the BIOS. This sets the CD-ROM drive as the “1st Boot Device” and the hard disk partition containing your Windows operating system as the “2nd Boot Device”. From now on, whenever the boot CD is in the CD-ROM drive, this will launch a special Linux-based version of the G DATA AntiVirus software.

Note: If the boot CD is not in the CD-ROM drive, your normal Windows system will start automatically after a few seconds.

Note: You can normally access the BIOS setup by pressing the DEL button while your computer is booting up. Please consult your computer documentation to find out how to alter the settings in your BIOS setup.

Note: After running the initial virus scan and installing the G DATA AntiVirus software, you should restore the settings in the BIOS to “C:” as soon as possible, as this setting provides effective protection against boot sector viruses (e.g. if a data carrier is left in the drive by mistake).

4. Use the G DATA AntiVirus software program on the boot CD to scan your computer for viruses and to remove any that are found: Youwillfindhelponusingtheinitialvirusscanintheonlinehelp,whichisavailablewhenyoustartthebootCD.

5. Remove the G DATA AntiVirus software CD from your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

6. Turn your computer off and back on again: YourcomputerwillnowrestartwiththestandardWindowsoperatingsystem,andyouwillbeabletoinstallthestandardGDATAAntiVirussoftwareonaguaranteedvirus-freesystem.

7. Insert the G DATA AntiVirus software CD back into your CD-ROM drive.

8. Now you can start the actual G DATA AntiVirus software installation: TheGDATAAntiVirussoftwareinstallationprocessisexplainedindetailinthe“Instal-lation”chapter.

Note: When you install Microsoft SQL Express, any other databases that are present will be converted automatically.

Nowcheckthenameof thecomputeronwhichyouwishto install themanagementserver.Thiscomputermustbeaccessibletothenetwork’sclientsviathenamethat isdisplayedhere.If thecorrectnameisnotbeingdisplayed,changeitunder“Name”.

The G DATA AntiVirus ManagementServer installation will now commence. Onceinstalled,youwillbeabletoregistertheproductdirectlyonline.ThecomputermustbeconnectedtotheInternettodothis.

Note: You can of course postpone registration until a later date. You can then register by going to the Start menu > Programs and selecting “G DATA AntiVirus ManagementServer”, choosing “Online Update” and enabling “Online Registration”.

Note: If you quit the G DATA AntiVirus Administrator software, this does not close the G DATA AntiVirus Management Server. This remains active in the background and controls the processes that have been set by you for the G DATA AntiVirus Clients.

TheGDATAAntiVirusManagementServercanalertyouviaemail if avirushasbeenfoundononeof theGDATAAntiVirusclients,anditcanalsosendpotentiallyinfectedfilestotheEmergencyAntiVirusServiceforanalysis.Todothisyouwillneedtospecifythemailserver’sname,theportnumber(SMTP)andthesender’saddress.Bysettingalimitonthevolumeof messages,youcanpreventyouremailinboxbeing“flooded”withmessagesintheeventof avirusattack.

Note: If you should encounter problems remotely installing the G DATA AntiVirus Client via the G DATA AntiVirus Administrator, you can also install the G DATA AntiVirus Client software on the client computers manually or semi-automatically.

Defining.the.client.monitoring.structureThe client selection panelwill list all activated computers (which are therefore beingmonitored)oncetheAdministratorhasbeenlaunched.Pleasenotethatsomecompu-tersmaybeactivatedevenif theGDATAAntiVirusClientsoftwarehasnot(yet)beeninstalledonthem.Thesecomputerswillof coursenotyetbeprotectedagainstvirusesandcannotyetbemanagedbytheAdministrator.Activatingacomputersimplyplacesit“underobservation”.

Select the command „Display deactivated clients” from theClientsmenutodisplaycomputersthathavenotyetbeenactivatedaswell.Youcanrecognisethedeactivatedcomputersbytheirgreyedouticons.Computerswithoutfileorprintsharingenabledwillnormallynotbedisplayed.

To activate a computer, highlight it on the list and then select the „Activateclient”optionfromtheClientsmenu.

Toupdatethelistof existingclientsafternetworkchanges,pleaseclickthe„Up-date”button.

You can remove a computer from the list (i.e. deactivate it) by highlighting itand then selecting „Delete” from the Clients menu. Please note that deactivating acomputerwillnotresultintheclientsoftwarebeingdeinstalled.

Packedfiles–Checkingpackeddatainafilearchiveisverytimeconsuming.Whenunpackinganarchive,itispossibletoidentifyvirusesthathavepreviouslybeenhidden.Itisrecommendedthatallpackedarchivefilesbecheckedonaregularbasis.

Systemareas–Asarule,thesystemareasof yourcomputer(suchas,bootsectors,masterbootrecords,etc.),whichenableyouroperatingsystemtorun,shouldnotbeignoredandshouldbepartof yourregularviruschecks.

Redundantcheck–Thissettingshouldonlybeusedinexceptionalcasessincethescantakessolongtoperform.Withthissetting,filesarescannedintheirentiretyforviruses,notonlyinplaceswherevirusestypically“dock.”

Exception.Directories.for.Scan.JobsHere, you can define exception directories on the clients. These directories are notscannedbytheviruschecker.

Note: You can define exception directories for entire groups. If the clients in a particular group have defined different exception directories, new directories can be added or existing ones deleted. This does not affect the directories defined for a particular client. The same process is used to define virus guard exceptions.

Canceling.Virus.ScanningIf theadministratorhasenabledthe“UserCanChangeVirusGuardOptions”option,userswillbeabletocanceltheviruschecksontheircomputers,evenif theyhavebeenstartedmanuallyonthatclient.

Disable.the.Virus.guardUserscanusethiscommandtoturnoff theGDATAAntiVirusvirusguardforaspecifiedperiodof time(from“5Minutes”to“UntiltheNextRestart”).Thisis,of course,onlypossible if users havebeen given the appropriate authorizationby the administrator.Temporarilydeactivatingthevirusguardcanbeusefulwhencopyinglargenumbersof files,forexample,asthiswillspeedupthecopyingprocess.Youshould,however,bearinmindthatthisalsodeactivatesvirusscanningfortheperiodof timespecified.

OptionsIf theadministratorhasenabledthe“UserCanChangeVirusGuardOptions”option,userswillbeabletochangeboththevirusscanningoptionsontheircomputersandtheoptionsforrunningthevirusguardinthebackgroundtosuittheirindividualneeds.

Warning: This means, of course, that all virus checking mechanisms can be “deactivated” on the G DATA AntiVirus Client. As an administrator you should, therefore, only make this option available to experienced users.

Note: The settings under “Options” that affect security can also be password-protected for the client computer. To do this, the administrator assigns an individual password to each client, which users can use to modify the virus checking functions on the client. This password is assigned in the “Settings” area of the G DATA AntiVirus Administrator.

How.do.I.check.whether.the.clients.have.a.connection.to.the.Management.Server?ThecolumnLastaccessintheClientstaskareashowsthetimeatwhichtheclienthadlastregisteredwiththeManagementServer.Normallyclientsregistereveryfewminuteswith theManagementServer (if noscan jobsare inprogress).Oneof the followingreasonscouldexplainwhythelinkhasbeenunsuccessful:

• Theclienthasbeenturnedoff orseparatedfromthenetwork.

• ItisimpossibletoestablishaTCP/IPlinkbetweentheclientandtheManage-mentServer.Pleasecheckthenetworksettings.

• TheclienthasbeenunabletodeterminetheIPaddressof theserver,thatis,thenameresolutionhasfailedtofunction.Youcancheckthelinkusingthepingcommand.Startbytyping"ping<servername>"whenpromptedforanentry,replacing"<servername>"withthenameof thecomputerinthenetworkwheretheManagementServerhasbeeninstalled.

Clients. should.not.be.addressed.by.names.rather. they. should.be.addressed.by.their.respective.IP.address

Installing the Management Server: When you are installing the ManagementServer, you will be prompted for the server name. You must replace the name withthe IP address. You can also replace the server namewith the IP address later, afteryouhavealreadyinstalledtheManagementServer.Youmustremembertomodifytheregistry entry accordingly “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\G DATA AntiVirusClient/Server\G DATA AntiVirus Management Server\ComputerName” and the file“\Programs\GDATAAntiVirusClient/Server\GDATAAntiVirusManagementServer\AvkClientSetup\RegServer.txt”.

Activating the clients in the G DATA AntiVirus Administrator: YoumustbeabletoestablishthelinkfromservertoclientsviatheIPaddressaswellandsoyoumustactivatetheclientsintheGDATAAntiVirusAdministratorusingtheirIPaddress.Thiscanbedonemanually(activateclient/client(dialog))orbysearchinganIPaddresssector(searchclient/computer).

A.message.on.a.number.of.clients.reads:.“The.virus.database.is.damaged”..What.can.I.do?Toinsurethattheprotectionfromvirusesisatitsbest,thevirusdatabaseischeckedatregularintervalstomakecertainthatithasnotbeendamaged.If anerrorisfound,themessageThevirusdatabase isdamagedwillappear.Delete this informationandthenloadthemostrecentupdateof thevirusdatabase fromourserver.Thenupdatethevirusdatabaseontheclients thathavebeenaffected.Donotdelay incontactingourhotlinebytelephone,if theerrormessagere-appears.
